I love apartment hunting videos, especially about cities I've never lived in :) It's always interesting to see various combinations of people from different backgrounds looking for different things - like, I am Italian and 99% of the time Italians care a lot about the size of the house, especially of the kitchen space, but I personally hate cooking and love small spaces, so my priority is usually the location. Thanks for sharing your experience! (Just want to add, it's funny to see so many people in the comments who have never been apartment hunting in certain markets, like overcrowded capitals, I live in London and here you ALWAYS go and check out the place, even if there is the smallest chance you might like it, because the market is crazy fast, also you barely care about the written size, some houses have the weirdest layout and end up having much more/less actual space than a house with a similar on-paper size)

I’m curious why you kept looking at such small square footage and then complaining that the place is too small. Can’t one find out the square footage ahead of time? Usually I see square meter posted, but didn’t know what was a reasonable size. Now I know that 20square meters is always “too small”!

I watch a lot of these kinds of videos from Paris. I don't have high standards and am not into luxury but come on! I haven't seen a single apt in Paris that I would consider liveable in terms of space & storage for modern citizens. These looks more like glorified dorm suites most of the time.

Fun to watch, after having lived there over 25 years ago.... when, even back then, one did NOT ever considering at Metro Pigalle!! Is that not still a warning sign when looking for apartments, as it has been for decades??? (It looks like it should be!) I too, lived first in the 14ème (Métro Alésia, which was serviceable, but quiet. But safe!!). Then moved to the 10ème (before it was "Le Bobo"), on Rue du Boulevard du Temple. Above a bakery. It was awesome! I also spent a few months en l'île! Very inconvenient, but très Français!!

I just now discovered you! Bon jour. So I live in Hawaii and am kind of over it....I have lived in many places but France and Paris are still not ticked off on my bucket list....it was fun doing the apartment hunting thing along with you....ok now this may sound insane but my move to the current condo I am in, on Oahu was move #71. I am just now Dec.5th, 64 years old, going on 38...As Sagittarius, Celtic Nomad, I've know since early childhood I'd wander the Globe. Some of the places you visited, were tiny (New York style), and some were total crap, and one or two were okay cute. Here is what experience tells me to tell you...sit down with a pen and paper and list what you want. Then on another piece of paper list what you want in the neighborhood Do not worry about being realistic. You may get 9 out of 10...Then on a 3rd piece of paper list all of it, and post in on like your bathroom mirror. READ it everyday while brushing your teeth. Think about it before you go to bed and say thank you to the universe for delivering it to you. Then in a few weeks 1 or 2, LET IT GO!!! Relax and thrill to how circumstances will unfold to deliver it to you. Show you where it is, make it happen. It's called "manifesting" and like any learned skill once you do it, know it, make it easy for yourself, your life will never be the same. The second thing is this...almost NEVER feel sorry about storage space. Their are dozens and dozens of design tricks to employ to create storage where none exists. The bitch is when you move, you and your friends will be like, "holy crap! How much stuff is up in here?@$!?" Seldom does anyone move me twice, lol. I have a gift for what's called "spaceial differentials" and can fit 4 times as much stuff as the average person into the same space. As a ProfessionalOrganizer and Designer, I can tell you Structural safety is #1. Neighborhood safety #2. How many flights up #3. (Elevatores break! And can be down for weeks to months) Cost #4 (Manifest more $$) and #5 Green Space/View Last. You are there to live like a Parisan, outside, where the action is....make a beautiful charming man take you to dinner, what's with the cooking? Lol, you are young! Carry pepper spray if you want to feel safe, or take a taxi to your door. I hope you find your nest and I'll binge watch you over the Holidays, ahhh to to so young again. One of the many things about aging that is good, is that you know what you like, and what you don't. If they had showed me #8" I think it was, I would have been like "No" in one second! Toilet next to the kitchen???!!! Wtf, non ,non, non what civilized person s--- where they eat? An insult! Au revior mon cher!
@carolweaver3269
@carolweaver3269 Год назад
Great advice really! Truly you should have a You tube vlog! {perhaps sharing your skills with the apartment searching and manifesting what you would want in life?) Many have watched vlogs like this perhaps, but sometimes just the right words and /or right person saying something can radiate with a person who just never quite understood it before or had the incentive to actually try it?? Maybe worth a try? If you have the time of course, and willing to truly give it time and place our heart into it? Even if temporary. it may well be worth it to many people? But who knows it could turnout fantastic and so many people may depend on your help with helping them to learn how to get on track better and to be able to imagine what should come to them ad help themselves to have the constructive thoughts that would work for them? I think people hear so much and see so much negative today they are having trouble seeing the positive or able to manifest it at all? they just need encouraging maybe?

how long have you been in Paris/Europe? I've been here five years, both Germany and currently Italy, and it is not uncommon to not have built in storage space like we do in the US. Most Europeans will purchase wardrobes for the living room/entrance and bedrooms to house their belongings; shoe storage things for the entrance; cleaning supplies get put under the sink & hang a small curtain to hide it or purchase a small 3-tiered drawer plastic thing to put under the sink for the same purpose; etc etc OR you pay more to get more haha Paris is super expensive for how small the flats are though - its wild. Italy is way more doable; I'm close centro in my city, 76m2 - 2bedroom partially furnished flat with walk out terrace and garage. It was 750e listed but I'm paying 900e because I have a special contract that adds maintenance fees and the ability to break my contract with only 10days notice rather than the standard 6month requirement -- being a contractor and the uncertainty that can come with that, 10day notice is necessary haha

@@Ariellelaparisienne It's so good of you to reply! I didn't know there was such a difference in wages between the countries. However, the apartments you showed at 800 plus euros would be no less that 16-1700 Canadian dollars in Toronto. People here are moving into what I would call a box, literally for high prices. My friend took two years to find an 1100 dollar basement apartment that was clean and safe.. It has one very small window, This may not be exactly on topic, but Canadian workers don't have the security that the French do. From what I understand it isn't easy to fire a French worker, unionized or not. I'm enjoying your channel. Thanks!

I would just look at apartments in the area you wanted and price you could afford.

That might seem like an obvious option but it’s very hard to get viewings in Paris… so you very rarely get your first pick. It took me 6 months to get just 8 visits so you can’t really be selective when visiting…

I am stunned by this silly video. Why are you in Paris? I lived in a tiny apt inNYC ina great neighborhood and felt lucky! Everyone told me just get something.

Seems like you wasted your own time. Why are you going to see places you aren’t qualified for or that are to far from your work… don’t they give you details and photos before you schedule visits 🤔

there are so many people looking that they usually don't include a lot of details in listing because people will show up anyway

Can someone explain to me what agency fees are ?
@orianenoutais7697
@orianenoutais7697 9 месяцев назад
When you're renting an apartment, you can do this either through a private person, or an agency that is in charge of organizing the visits, sorting out the dossiers, you refer directly to them for anything which is related to the apartment, etc... They take an amount of money for this work that you have to pay (usually there is a standard price pro square meter you're renting, for example 15 euros). Hope it helps !
