I am a 91, almost 92 year old sister. I have been with you for the last 3-4 years and was able to keep up until last Spring when health issues put me about 2 months behind, but I keep on keep in on. I recently took a tumble and fractured two bones in my neck and thus am wearing a neck brace until Valentines day. This prohibits me from using a physical ok, so I have to just listen, but I am determined to stay up with our lessons in the BOM AND still work on finishing the NT. Thank you for your lessons and explanations, I enjoy and appreciate your time and expertise so very much. Although Imust admit I doze off, I can’t always go back and pick up where I left off😋😋😋

Well wishes and prayers to you, Sister. I commend your commitment, and thank you for your inspiration. As a 24 Year Old member, soon to be 25 on the 7th of this month, I look to members like you who share their stories as a great source of Morale to continue studying my BOM daily. After all, we are a family within this great and glorious church, and as a Brother of that family I am always filled with happiness and comfort as I see my Siblings in Christ show such great zeal and righteousness in their devotion to our Heavenly Father. I pray for your speedy recovery.

God brought your podcast to me in 2020 in the midst of a faith crisis. I was hanging on by a thread back then. This podcast became my life line, the space where I could close the door on the world and focus solely on the gospel of Jesus Christ through the scriptures. I've been listening faithfully ever since. I've listened to every podcast. I haven't left the faith. I'm still here. I'm not going anywhere either. I'm going to continue listening and learning and staying grounded in the word of God. So please tell your family Linda Joy in Southern California says THANK YOU for their sacrifice and for sharing their husband/father with the rest of us because these lessons have kept me here and taught me so much. Thank you Jared for all your enthusiasm and love for the gospel. You are a beautiful human being and the Lord is using you to help others.

I’ve been a caregiver for over 8 years. The last couple years have been especially difficult. I simply couldn’t study scriptures as I wanted to. Your verse by verse lessons became my scripture study. Sometimes I felt guilty that I wasn’t actually picking up the books but I’m so grateful that I remained in the scriptures because of you. And not just a few verses with insights, but each and every verse. Your service to me has been priceless. Thank you with all my heart.

I have become used to listening to everything you've posted online the past 3½ years. Shorter lessons had me searching for more of your colleagues channels. I've enjoyed the 28 classes seeking Jesus by John Hilton iii and many others. However, you're my favorite! I went to Spokane Washington on my mission. Ed Decker lived in my mission and it was a very anti-mormon mission. I love your insights and wish I had the ability to listen to your 650+ hours of content before I went on my mission. It's a huge service and legacy you are giving to your family, students, members and non-members alike! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and testimony with all of us. I've definitely been strengthened these past 3½ years!

My wife and I served in the Spokane WA mission as well (17-19 for me 18-19 for her)!!! Don't worry, it's still the best mission out there 😁😉 I find myself wishing to have had the knowledge I have now, but it's such a testament to me that it's truly the Lord's work and that the Spirit is the teacher. It would have to be for anyone to decide on changing their lives based on how I was teaching lol

My wife and I went back to the area for a Foster Parent conference in 2018. It was very different 40 years ago. For example there was a huge development in Coeur d'Alene instead of the Sunshine Mine closing. We had baptisms because of the anti-mormonism in the area and we lost some people because of it. I just wish I was better at handling those situations like I think I could knowing what I know today.

I love your "I have made this with mine own hands" take on scripture study. It reminds me of Elder Bruce R McConkie's final Conference address: "In speaking of these wondrous things I shall use my own words, though you may think they are the words of scripture, words spoken by other Apostles and prophets. True it is they were first proclaimed by others, but they are now mine, for the Holy Spirit of God has borne witness to me that they are true, and it is now as though the Lord had revealed them to me in the first instance. I have thereby heard his voice and know his word."

I also felt the spirit so strong on Mr. Todd or FX20. I paused the recording and fell to my knees being overcome with the spirit. I thank the Lord for Bro. Halverson and this restored Gospel. It's amazing how the spirit can cut off the veil and we can feel at home again like we did in our premortal cradle to be held by a loving Father. Its all about entering into his rest (Alma 13 and DC 84). I listened to the FX20 part again and felt the same spirit. We are living our life to one day to actually meet the Savior. There is no greater work on earth today than teaching the Gospel!

The last year on my mission I had a goal to read everything I was allowed to read as a missionary, within that year. At the time that was the standard world, a marvelous work and a wonder, true to the faith, preach my gospel, our search for happiness, our heritage, and Jesus the Christ. It was a huge undertaking, and I’m proud to say that I read the last few pages on the plane home. It was definitely a huge growth and testimony building year.

Brother Halverson, kudos to you on this improved Unshaken standard. You have explained the methods symbolized by Water Skiing, Snorkeling, and Scuba Diving. The refresh of these distinct ways to approach our scripture study in a new way. It aligns with the Prophet’s council to think Celestial. Why? Because the language of the celestial kingdom is likely symbolic, like the temple. By approaching the Book of Mormon this year in a more celestial way, filled with an active engagement with our Heavenly Father, we will have a better chance to understand what the Lord wants us to understand. In this way, our journey is sure. THANK YOU!😊

As you were discussing Lehi’s progression into becoming a prophet at the beginning of the Book of Mormon, which thing I had never considered, the Spirit connected a dot for me. If Lehi’s wife, Sariah, knew her husband all this time to be a merchant and to provide a comfortable life for the family, and then all of a sudden (from her perspective) her husband is talking of his own visions and prophecies, it would have been an adjustment for her. It now makes sense why she would murmur or complain against Lehi when he sends his sons to retrieve the Brass Plates and to call him “a visionary man”. No doubt Sariah was loyal to her husband. However, I never considered her experience when within a short timeframe her life was dramatically altered and she had to exercise faith in the Lord to believe that her husband was now His mouthpiece. How glorious that the Lord had compassion on Sariah to give her time to grow into being the wife of a prophet! We see it wasn’t the only time murmuring occurred in the wilderness, but I have more compassion on the whole family now that understand their dramatic change in lifestyle and their new realization of needing to rely entirely on the Lord. Equally regarding all the sons of Lehi and Sariah, material wealth affects each person differently. Laman and Lemuel were older and has lived the comfortable life for much longer than Sam or Nephi.

When I think of Nephi being taught in all learning of my father, I always think of how blessed Nephi was to be taught in addition to all the of the learning of reading and writing, his father also taught him about the ways of the Lord. I am sure it may have been the most important lessons from his father. What an amazing gift for Lehi to give to his children. Truly a tender mercy for all the children of Lehi about the ways of the Lord. In fact there are so many tender mercies in the first chapter of 1 Nephi.

In a way it feels like a waste of time. I have read all the scriptures, every word and parts many times and Book of Mormon more than once. It really helped me when I found that I Can do it audioly. And that has meant that I’ve ‘read’ the Book of Mormon many many many times. But that’s the waterskiing way to do it. I'm so glad I found your podcast. I'm a lifelong member of the church and have "studied" the Book of Mormon in Sunday School and seminary and have never heard insight like yours--even from an individual scripture. I've always been a skimmer. A water skier. I'm just skimming the surface of the Gospel and want to dive deep. But I've never been able to figure out how to do it. I'm hoping I will this year as I make your podcast part of my study I will finally understand how to do that. When you talk about the wilderness--I've always looked at the wilderness as affliction. Something really hard that you just have to endure and hope you survive and receive blessings at the end. Never have I thought about the wilderness as a place where I'm free of the noise and commotion and the evil influences of the world. I need more wilderness! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and your testimony with the world. I'm excited for this year!

Thank you for the scripture study suggestions. I might try "the waterski approach". I really was moved by the story of FX-20. Thank you for the humor also, i.e.: Nephi not wanting to go into the wilderness because he was Captain of his football team😄 I learned today that Samuel was the older brother of Nephi, I guess because he followed him, I always thought he was the younger brother. Happy New Year! Praying for blessings for you and your family.

My first testimony of the Book of Mormon was a Dream I had back in the 1970’ies when I was investegating the Church. I woke up an had 1 Nephi 1,3-5 on my mind. I read it. It didn’t ‘talk’ to me. But later, weeks months or what ever, I knew that Nephi had spoken to ME and told me that the book was true. ❤

My plan this year is read the given scriptures on Sunday. Then M-S listen to all the podcasts I follow while I work. And since your's is shorter i can do that. Great ones are Faith Matters, Talking Scriptures, Stick of Joseph, Scriptures are Real. I then watch "Come Follow up" on Sunday to finish my study on given Scriptures

Thank you for this lesson. Your lesson has expanded my knowledge and understanding towards Lehi and his journey with his family through the wilderness. Helping me to think deeper about their journey than ever before. I am reminded about the Know Your Religion Firesides that were discontinued years ago. I always felt a great appreciation for those who traveled to southern Alberta, bringing with them lessons and insights, helping members learn more about what is in the scriptures on a deeper level. I am feeling spiritually fed and enlightened again. Looking forward to studying the Book of Mormon with you this year! God bless you and your family always, for sharing your time, knowledge, stories and testimony with all who make the time to follow you. I’m sure, for some of us, you’re our Nephi.

I have been eagerly waiting to hear your thoughts and insights on the parts prior to the Book of Jacob. Loved the discussion on study in the beginning. I’m trying a new method myself that has opened things to me in a great way. I do a sprint through the BoM each year in 38 days to commemorate the prophet Joseph and while I will usually take a topic and highlight that as I go through a fresh copy, I always find myself wanting to “stop and smell the roses” in those sprints. This time then, while going, I would continue to highlight but I was keeping an index in the front cover of especially pertinent passages. Now I’m going through and doing a “scuba” on each of those verses. As always, thank you for the episodes. I drive a lot for work and always enjoy your episodes. Happy that I no longer have to do double time to get through all of it.

Brother Halverson, my time with you these years have blessed my testimony exponentially. Thank you for sharing your gift with all of us. I have to admit my heart broke when you announced shorter lessons. I fear I’ll have to skim over the surface with several different teachers instead of diving deep verse by verse as you so eloquently did each week. Perhaps a collab with your colleagues where you could each take a few verses but get more detailed could help us get to the meat instead of the milk each week? Just a thought 😉I hope that I can embrace this change and find more meaningful content. You are by far my favorite teacher and if it were up to me I’d have longer lessons not shorter; they given so much more depth to my personal study. Thank you again for all you do to bless the lives of so many.

I'm so thankful I found this last week! I love what I've heard so far and the spiritual insights. Last year was an epic failure with doing CFM with my family due to my having 2 open heart surgeries 11 months ago, However, I now feel ready to dive in with my kiddos into the BOM. My oldest is 8, so we're going to go at a slower pace and teach her how to use the great tools in the scriptures and how/what to highlight. I'm so excited! I'm grateful to be able to teach my kids the simple truths of the BOM as I learn more depth through others like you! Thank you! I'm grateful for the not too lengthy videos this year to help me not feel too overwhelmed with wanting to listen. I'm excited for the ideas of different ways to study the scriptures in the future as my kids get older. ❤

So as I was listening to this week’s conversation about the family of Lehi, I was struck by how often people identify Lehi and Sariah as examples of an unhappy couple. Chapter 5 has resonated with for the exact opposite reason. I love the respect and love they show each other. This is a time of serious crisis in their family. And when he sees his wife breaking down in fear and worry, Lehi is an amazing husband. He doesn’t argue or blame her, there is no, pulling rank or blaming her for her not having a personal witness yet. Very clearly he acknowledges that he has caused this upheaval, reassures her that the Lord will be there, and then comforts her. Sariah openly expressed her fears and anger and genuine human emotions. She felt safe enough and loved enough to be vulnerable in a very difficult situation. She had not yet received confirmation that this was really the Lords commandment, and as such that her children would be protected in their efforts. Lehi builds her up in her doubts, and supports her with love and faith.

I started in July or August of 2022 reading the standard works. I read morning and evening. When I was picking up my grandchildren from school I would read while I was waiting. I am retired so I spend up to 2 hours of reading in the morning and evening. After talking to my Aunt. I started using the audio. I also read along with it. Since 2022 I am almost finished reading the 4 standard works for the 6th time. I would start with Genesis and end with the Pearl of Great Price. Reading like that it would take 15 to 20 days to read the Book of Mormon.

I certainly appreciate the time and effort that you spend in preparing your perspectives and explanations regarding the scriptures. I agree that the book of Mormon especially deserves more of our time and deep dive. However, your efforts and shortening the lessons will be mutually advantageous. You get to spend more time with your family, and we the participants will be able to ponder the things that you offer and reread the sections that you discuss in your lessons. Thank you again for Sharing your vest understanding of the words of the prophets

30:47 that’s something that I always think of when the Zoramites are saying their ancestor was “done dirty”…well, he was a slave so (if he was left in Jerusalem) maybe he might have been able to have a family or not, he would have most likely been assumed to be the one to kill Leban, and if he made it through all that, he might have been killed, maimed, or injured when the Babylonians came through 11 years later…or carried off entirely. Besides, he never said he was upset about gaining his freedom, a family, posterity, friends, and being freed from what the Babylonians were planning (so they were not speaking for him later on down the line). It’s always interesting that we as mortals always think we missed out on The Best Scenario whenever we’re ending up doing something different rather than thinking that maybe, just maybe the Lord is saving us and were wouldn’t have had The Best like we thought we assumed we would down that path He saved us from. ☺️
