Nephi continues quoting Isaiah, reminding us that Isaiah should cause us to rejoice as his words provide answers, clarity, and direction in our confused age!
Isaiah begins prophesying of a refuge of safety for Israel, built in the "tops of the mountains." Where did the Lord intend for this refuge to be built? Learn more about the fascinating (and often forgotten) history of Deseret in this week's podcast!

Thank you so much for making these videos! Several years ago I was teaching the Gospel Doctrine church history class here in Idaho. While teaching about the early missionary travels of the apostles to the British isles I asked how many had ancestors that traced back to the early British converts. I was surprised to see approximately 80% of the class raise their hands.

I felt exhilaration at times listening to this. The covenant people that God established anciently fell away and broke the covenant. But God is not a loser that starts things, fails at them and gives up. That would be true if God does not restore His covenant people Israel again, like a stone cut out of a mountain without hands ,that rolls forth and breaks down all other kingdoms and fills the whole earth.

I get tired of the accusers saying that the saints are not good and under condemnation. True, there is a aproxamatly 50% activity rate, but of those faithfuly attending church and attempting to keep their covenants, i believe the Lord is pleased with our efforts while encouraging us to do more. We are not required to run faster than we are able. Elder Holland stated be ye therefore perfect.....eventually. though we need to be anxiously engaged. There is no need to self flagiulate.

Both political and denominational opponents of Brigham sought ways to influence Utah children away from Mormonism. In many ways, then, the fight for public schools became part of the fight for the Church’s very survival.

Hi Hannah. OK I don’t really know how to say this, but I need some help. I know where my family came from because I’ve done my genealogy back about 10 generations. There are a lot of interesting and very peculiar things about the family and the surname, and how exactly would I be able to find, some of the same research material that you all at the foundation have found? Specifically, I’d like to know how I can find out that my family line are descended from the line of Ephraim. There is lots of breadcrumbs and things that I’ve been in my family line, but it’s just such a big task.

You should research very carefully what you are preaching. In this instance, you are in significant error. To all, if you're truly interested in this topic, please read the essay "the great Jerusalem temple prophecy: latter day context and likening unto us". By Jeffrey R Chadwick; BYU associate professor of religious education and BYU Jerusalem center professor of archaeology and near Eastern studies. Unfortunately, the Scriptures that you are talking about and the interpretation you give therein is like unto a hijacking of scripture . And the simple and elevating interpretation is very different from what you are stating as fact. I'm not necessarily blaming you, Hannah, because I know that the narrative you are putting forth is the common narrative in the church curriculum.
@joshuaoram7439

Oh, you mean the essay that states very clearly that the Book of Mormon cannot be true because it conflicts with modern scholarship? The essay in which a BYU professor warns that church members may be “shocked” by his views? The essay that bends the knee to the “consensus of non-LDS biblical scholars?” As soon as you list credentials of “BYU professor” as validation for your view, I immediately know to disregard all that follows. These words from Jeffrey Chadwick, just like the words of Leonard Arrington, are anti-Mormon. These progressive “New Mormon History” academics are directly responsible for the faith crisis of so many members today. Any and all “scholarship” that goes against revelation and the teachings of Joseph Smith should be recognized for what it is: poison in your ear, anathema to a testimony by Spirit and revelation. If you prefer scholarship to the Holy Ghost, it’s your testimony that is being hijacked.

Mountains in the book of Isaiah mean nations. In the tops of the mountains doesn't mean Utah. It means the top of the nations or the United States, which is the top nation. 2 Nephi 12 is speaking of the millennium and the law that will come from Zion and Jerusalem. Zion will be established in Missouri, not Utah, and Jerusalem is in Israel. See verse 4 which is full of millennial imagery. Beat their swords into plow-shares. The word coming from both Jerusalem and Mount Zion. The Lord will dwell in Mount Zion in Missouri and Jerusalem, not Utah. (Isa 24:23) Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the Lord of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously. The Lord's house in verse 2 is the temple that will be built in Mount Zion or the New Jerusalem, not the temple in SLC.

@JosephSmithFoundation 6 месяцев назад
Hannah: Hi Mark, I understand where you are coming from and there are certainly multiple layers for Isaiah 2. For this lesson, we are using quotes and prophetic interpretations given by inspired Latter-day prophets (as quoted throughout the video). Joseph Smith taught all of America is Zion. Yes, the New Jerusalem city will be built in Independence, Missouri (original location of the Garden of Eden), and Far West has been called "most holy" by the Lord in the revelations-but Joseph Smith also stated that "the whole of America is Zion itself from north to south." I have gained a personal witness that the teachings of Wilford Woodruff and other prophets regarding the critical importance and destiny of Deseret, both past and future, are true-although this part of our history has largely been forgotten and even undermined. Eliza R. Snow spoke of Nephite temples being built throughout the Rocky Mountains, there are prophecies of gathering here for safety, there is critical counsel for using this location for preserving liberty and the Constitution, etc. We could do a several hour series just going through all of the prophecies about the Rocky Mountains! There is so much. I have a personal testimony these prophets were inspired of God in their teachings and that there is even far more they could not say. Deseret is not the only part, but it is a critical part of Zion-especially moving forward in the future.
@MarkHigbee
@MarkHigbee 6 месяцев назад
@JosephSmithFoundation I believe Utah could be likened to wandering in the wilderness. The early church was supposed to establish Zion in 1836 in Missouri but failed to do it. We as a people have never become a zion people. We are not saints or the sanctified people who we are supposed to be. This is why Isaiah calls us a rebellious nation. It's because we won't even live the preparatory gospel and become saints until the very end when all the calamities and destruction come and like you said there will only be a remnant that will return or repent.
@JosephSmithFoundation
@JosephSmithFoundation 6 месяцев назад
Hannah: Indeed. Isaiah is very clear about our modern wickedness. But that does not mean that God will not keep the prophecies and promises for Deseret. We will need to obey every command, even if it takes some severe scourging and chastening to get there. I personally understand the struggle many feel with recognizing Deseret's place. I personally had to be humbled by the Lord and prayerfully study the words of the prophets to have my mind opened to things I had not considered before. I'm very grateful for that journey as it has given me hope, answers, and direction.
@MarkHigbee
@MarkHigbee 6 месяцев назад
@JosephSmithFoundationYes, I agree God will keep his promises. The desert places will blossom as a rose in a future exodus from Babylon to the New Jerusalem or Mt Zion. Isaiah tells us there will be an exodus out of Babylon both spiritually and physically, and the final destinations are Mt Zion and Jerusalem, not Utah. I believe Utah can be thought of as a temporary safe place or a stronghold on the way to Mt. Zion, but it's not Mt Zion.
