Have you ever considered the burden a prophet carries? Especially if they are called to a time where there is a great battle for souls. In Amos we discover the pattern of how a prophet speaks to his people: The Problem, The Consequence, The Counsel, The Promise. You might spend some time looking at recent conference talks to see if they follow a similar pattern. We are choosing a conference talk to combine with each of these minor prophets. You might consider studying Elder Anderson with Amos and Sister Yee with Obadiah. This week in Come, Follow Me we will be studying Amos and Obadiah. Here is what you have to look forward to:
A Warning to those At Ease
The Brotherly Covenant
Battle for Good
We love studying with you,
David and Emily

Come, Follow Me is a resource offered by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is designed to be used in the home to support personal and family scripture study to build faith in Heavenly Father and His plan of salvation and in the Savior Jesus Christ and His Atonement. Come, Follow Me is self-contained and adequate, when used properly. Products and materials designed to supplement this resource, though they may be helpful in some instances, are not necessary for a successful home study program.

I have given you guys a thumbs up every single lesson! I love that you look at things through a different lens-a lens of love. Added to John and Hank’s podcast, I have come away with a deeper understanding of both our Father’s and Savior’s constant, never ending love and patience for us in every age and place from the beginning to the present and into the future. Thanks for turning the lens of the Old Testament onto the “hesed” of Heavenly Parents and a beloved Heavenly Brother.

I just got called as a youth Sunday School teacher. I’m so excited to teach my first time this Sunday. As I was listening to your podcast I thought of a good object lesson. I’m going to bring Jenga and let the kids who read or answer questions move a block. Then we can use a plumb line to see if it’s straight or if it will fall over. Then we can talk about what the Lord meant by placing a plumb line in the midst of his people. Thanks for the inspiration.

In junior high, I once had two friends that were having a fight and I got in between them to break it up. They weren't friends with each other but they were friends with me and the principal called me in at the tail end of the blame game conversation with the two he had sat down in front of him. As soon as the assistant principal walked me into the room the principal asked if I was involved with the actual fight, but before I said anything both of the girls turned to the principal and said "no she was trying to stop us." One even said I was the only one trying to stop it. There was a room of like 30 girls at the time. I remember I got in a lot of trouble in those two years , before and after, for trying to be someone that broke up physical and verbal fights between my friends and others. But they always commented on how they were grateful for me being the peacemaker. And I always laughingly said it would be better if I didn't have to because I would rather be a mediator than a referee. 😅 That principal called in bystanders as well but everyone was biased except for me. And through the whole of the school system from pre-k to high school there were maybe 12 members of the church me being one of them.

I realize this comes in late and may sit in the dark abyss of comments-of-the-past but sometimes I need things to sit in my mind for a bit. I must have listened to the last four minutes of this session 5x. Not only did David's reference to Sister Yee being a prophetess stand out to me as inspired, in addition to her message, (kindness for cruelty, love for hate, gentleness for abrasiveness, safety for distress, peace for contention), but Emily's dialogue before that was, as though it could be, a one-on-one counseling session. In 1 Nephi 4:3, the verse talks about how we know what we hear/read is true and we also know an angel had spoken it into us (wherefore can ye doubt? Let us go up; the Lord is able to deliver us...). David and Emily are our angels. This is the dialogue Emily shared which script I find SO useful: "I know you were wronged, experienced injustice, some of it caused by my hand. But at some point we have give each other grace in order to move forward. Jesus fixed that in me. I can't ever apologize for or fix the hurt, only Jesus can."

I had heard of the word plumb before but just looked it up to see where it came from and found the following: Plumb comes from the Latin word for lead (plumbum) which I’m guessing is what was commonly used to hang from the string to make it straight. That is where we get the word plumbing and plumber because lead was used in water supply pipes long ago. Also that is why the symbol for lead on the periodic table is Pb.

Quote:"carpentry projects must be square, level, and plumb. Square means that corners are 90 degrees. Level is always gauged by a device, such as a carpenter's level, but level does not always mean parallel to the ground. Plumb is vertical, most accurately gauged by a plumb bob. Levels can show when posts are plumb." unquote

Your class is amazing! ❤ I just got my study materials and as much as I am loving the Old Testament, these things are great and I am now excited for the New Testament. May I say that the journal is AWESOME or as David would say - RAD! It made my day! Just one last thing - remember: If you don’t want criticism- do nothing. Be nothing. Say nothing! Thanks for saying stuff!❤

The criticism was just that a few weeks ago, they spent about 20 minutes advertising, which is totally within their right to do, but it was unexpectedly long.

Good morning. Thank you for doing these podcasts and videos. As a person who has done some RU-vid videos and what not (for work not personal). Ignore the haters. They have a choice to listen or not. Thank you again for your time in making these videos and podcasts.

We are all on a quest to counteract your negative comments today, sweet David. For you as well, Emily. You will never know all the good you do each day with your love and happiness, your unique gifts that you share so willingly. As for us, our Mondays, Thursdays, some Wednesdays and actually every day is a day we look forward to because of your light. Thank you for being you and loving so brightly! ✨♥️

Sometimes that happens with people who are on the wrong path...they have to be knocked down (reach a bottom) only to be rebuilt (restored).
