My store very much needed a place to hang out and visit while catching up with friends. So I created a couple of chairs and a checkerboard. I hope this video sparks your creativity to create your own chairs, or maybe just restore some older chairs in need of an upgrade.

You are an amazing furniture maker. No need to be so modest. That little tiny chair is precious. Playing a game of checkers with yourself cracked me up. 🙂.I bet the weaving would be gorgeous on a headboard. Thank you again for sharing your talent.

I’m so glad you like them! When you do try them search on RU-vid for some tutorials that are life size. It helps seeing it bigger and watching them as they explain. I know there is a guy who shows cutting it each time but I never cut it. So there may be things you will have to tweak for miniature.

I love these chairs! They remind me of growing up in Scotland. I also had two, miniature, child sized chairs like this when my kids were small, I still have one, and, my sister has the other because her son was a little younger than mine. I love the tiny chair you made! I wish my first attempts came out half as good as this one, I would keep it forever, it looks like 1:48th but I am no expert. This barrel with the checker board reminds me of scenes from Stephen King's novels set in the imaginary Castle Rock, he seems to describe so many characters sitting chatting either outside, on the porch of the general store, or, in winter, near the woodstove playing checkers. Very evocative, Laura, I love it!

Oh wow that must of been Amazing to grow up in Scotland!! That’s great you still have the chairs! I think you’re right about it possibly being 1/48 scale. I didn’t make it to use I just made it to teach me how to use my cutting machine. 😂 I was shocked when I first cut it out at how small the pieces were. 😆😆😆 I put it together anyway kind of a joke. I almost threw it out but thought I should hold onto it to look back at it.

Thank you Laura! You give us so much good advice in this video, but the hardest advice for me to follow is “when the glue is completely dry……” and as a consequence my builds almost always reach that wobbly stage and fall apart. Ha ha! I think it is that chairs are so ubiquitous in our daily life and come in such a variety of shapes and sizes that they are the first thing we build. Have you ever thought of a Charles Rennie Macintosh chair, his designs are fun to copy although they would not fit into your western theme. A bed frame with rope weaving would have been common place in colonial days as were hammocks.
@Lauras-tinyview
@Lauras-tinyview 6 месяцев назад
Thank you! There have been countless times I need to let glue dry and I mess it up. I will have to look up that chair. I Love your idea with the rope for the bed. I’ve see that in some western movies and “Little House on the Prairie “ and completely forgot about it. I will definitely need to make some beds that way. Thanks for telling me about that!

Thank you Cheryl. I wanted to weave a chair seat for awhile now. It always looked complicated in miniature instruction. So I looked up full size instructional videos here on RU-vid. I guess it helped because it was bigger and they explained it as they did it in full size. So I tweaked it to work for miniature. Be patient with yourself with the quilling. Maybe even practice with larger strips of paper first. I used to make paper bead charms for my junk journals, I think that helped me understand it better and gave me lots of practice.

Of course, it doesn't tell me who's thumbnail, so I had to search. My schedule is a bit hectic these days. But I do have the top bell on. I was going to ask about the barrel. I need to make one for the Pet Sematary. I will definitely watch your video on how you made it. I love the story on how the chair came about. The tiny chair looks like 1:24 but I really would know. Since I dont normally work in that scale. But I do have a 1:24 doll coming up, and she's about the size of that chair. Thank you so much for sharing! I just love your mini makes. ❤️🥰

@@BekbekE I am so touched that I have inspired you to start your miniature journey! When I started my channel that was my biggest hope, to inspire others. I am so happy and excited for you! Please don’t be hard on yourself though and get discouraged if the first try’s don’t come out the way you want. It can take some practice but you gain experience all the time. Even from the flops. I would start small. Don’t take on a whole dollhouse at the start. Maybe just a room box. Or even just one piece of furniture. I made things for my Barbies when I was a girl and for my daughter. Then I didn’t make any miniatures for years. Then a RU-vidr woke my passion for miniatures again. Sometimes I spent hours, or days trying to figure out how to make something . Back then there weren’t a lot of miniaturists making videos. I searched a lot of blogs and Pinterest to get ideas. After a while you kind of develop your own techniques that work best for you. I also live in an apartment and can’t use power tools to cut wood so I had to think up other alternatives. That’s how I started using food packaging and the cardstock. Now I love to challenge myself to make almost everything from cardboard, foam board, paper or cardstock. I originally wanted a Cricut. I went down a lot of rabbit holes researching my best option. I kept seeing complaints about the cost of using the Cricut Design studio. You pretty much have to pay to use your Cricut. Or at least that’s my understanding. I could be wrong. Which is crazy to me because you bought it you should be able to use it without having to pay. I think there are different monthly subscriptions you pay to use it. I wanted to be able to create whenever and however long I wanted. The cutting machines don’t come with patterns already. You have to create them or purchase off Etsy svg files. Svg files are cut files. So I usually start designing on graph paper then input my measurements in silhouette studio. Sometimes I have to cut it several times and tweak it till I’m happy with it. I surely didn’t want to have to pay for all of that. I used Cricut back when there were still cartridges you had to buy. I used it for junk journaling mainly. The cartridges weren’t cheap and I sometimes felt my creativity was limited by the cartridges. So I have never tried the modern Cricut or its design studio but I was afraid if I had to pay to use it that would definitely restrict my creativity. I really had to buy a cutting machine because I was having neck and shoulder problems. I didn’t want to give up miniatures or creating so I took a chance and bought silhouettes cameo. I’m very happy with it. There is a big learning curve and I’m slowly teaching myself this last three years to use it. You can look up RU-vid videos to help get you started. Most of them aren’t making miniatures but they can still help you understand your machine better. I hope that was helpful for you. I’d be glad to answer any other questions you may have if I know the answer. 😆 Thank you so much for watching my videos and giving the thumbs up! I appreciate that. I’m still learning this RU-vid thing and hope with time I get better. 😆

@@Lauras-tinyview oh my goodness, I so appreciate your reply and for taking the time to respond. I’m sure you are very busy. I’ve been making miniature kits and have learned a lot by kit bashing or trying to make them my own, but my brain is so full of ideas but I’m kind of frozen at the moment, so it’s like you read my mind with your advice to start small. I’m sure most people are like, “really, you want dollhouse supplies for your 59th birthday” but I do feel like it’s an art form that only other miniaturist can relate to.

I love your videos. I'm converting a very small 1/12 scale dollhouse to a 1/16 and would love to know your technique for converting the measurements. I know it's 2/3 equals 1 foot 😁
@Lauras-tinyview
@Lauras-tinyview 6 месяцев назад
You won’t believe it but I’m terrible with math. So I’m not good at converting for example 1/12 to 1/16. The simplest way that I do that works for me is, I look up the standard size of it in real scale of something I want to make. Like for instance in you case your wall height, since you’re converting a house. So I take the full size measurements and divide them by 16. So a standard wall is 8 ft. I need to know that in inches. One foot is twelve inches. So I multiply 8 by 12 which is 96. Then I divide 96 by 16. Which means you need at least 6 inch high walls. Hope that helps you convert your house. If you’re making something and it’s real size is already in inches then you just divide that by 16 for 1/16 scale. Or 12 for 1/12 scale and so on.
