Ronnie Barker often wrote sketches under the pseudonym Gerald Wiley. The reason being that he wanted the material accepted purely on its own merit and not because it was written by him. He was an absolute master of wordplay.

He stole further ideas (According to Barry Cryer) from the author of this sketch , as Barker did want credit in his own way. The actual writer was on the closing credit but I cannot recall his name, I think it was David someone, he wrote a short letter to Ronnie at his home "Dear Mr Parker, Your'e a Brick"
@mickthegeek875
@mickthegeek875 3 месяца назад
He also gave jokes to his fellow cast members on Porridge and Open All Hours. He knew that he could make them funny, but he wanted to give those he worked with the credit so they got a laugh or two in each scene. He was known as the Governor of Comedy because he was quite possibly one of the most giving and caring funny men in history.

Changing one or two letters in a word makes a massive difference. Yet, bizarrely you can still understand what he's saying :) A true comedic legend.
@doraexplora9046
@doraexplora9046 Год назад
That's actually a proven thing. If you only change the middle letters, but don't change the first and last letter of a word, people can still read it, almost as well if the word was spelt correctly.

Man you guys are getting edumacated! This is pretty intellectual humour, damn funny but you have to think about it. I always like humour that tickles my head from the inside, like when you have to complete the joke yourself to really get the punchline. I much prefer it to in-your-face humour like slapstick. I think he does a similar one involving spoonerisms - if you don’t know what they are, Google it 😂

Very funny in its day. the 1970 and 80s. Please can you do a reaction to a more modern UK comedy clip show called "Facejacker". It stars the now famous actor/comedian Kayan Novak, who impersonates outrageous characters while out in public. Its certainly the funniest comedy I've seen since the early 2000s. A Good clip to start on might be "Dufrais At The Baseball Game | Facejacker " (an 8.47 minute clip). another might be "Brian Babonde On Art | Facejacker ".

The most fascinating thing about The Two Robbie’s is that for years and years while working on it Ronnie Barker wrote dozens and dozens of scripts which he sent in (and were very often used on the show) but he submitted them under a false name Gerald Riley. But it got to a point when the producers realised great as these sketches were, nobody knew anything about Gerald Riley, nobody had never clapped eyes on him. So they set about reaching out to him and meet for lunch. So the producers and Ronnie C and others were all gathered in a restaurant when in walked Ronnie Barker and said to them “I’m Gerald Riley!” Ronnie C didn’t even know!! And the reason RB did this he said was that he wanted the material to be accepted on it’s own merits, not just because he was one of the stars of the show!! 😊

Constance Mary Whitehouse CBE (née Hutcheson; 13 June 1910 - 23 November 2001)[2] was a British teacher and conservative activist. She campaigned against social liberalism and the mainstream British media, both of which she accused of encouraging a more permissive society. She was the founder and first president of the National Viewers' and Listeners' Association, through which she led a longstanding campaign against the BBC. A hard-line social conservative, she was termed a reactionary by her socially liberal opponents. Her motivation derived from her Christian beliefs, her aversion to the rapid social and political changes in British society of the 1960s, and her work as a teacher of sex education.[3].............just pasted that their for you, but that woman was a bloody pain.
