Isn't that cathartic? I don't know the scenario you are right. But I can pose an observation, she was surrounded by loved ones, she took a bunch of pills so she probably was in less pain than she had been, and she was becoming a part of her grand son's dream. I used to eat alot of street food, and there is something mesmerizing about seeing someone who has been doing it for years prepare your food. The skill, the competency, quickness just makes you want to keep watching them. It's the same reason why I get distracted when I am scrolling down on youtube on phone and see the thumbnail play the video of a person decorating a cake or a person turning a simple word into a drawing of a superhero or a dude making a swimming pool out of nothing or a someone making a goldchain from scratch. I haven't even clicked the video, but I am watching this thumbnail for 15 minutes without sound. The way Barry shoots those chechens in the first episodes just oozes competence. He is not trying to show off like an action hero either. It's understated. I am a guy, so I don't want to bang him over that, but it helped me separate Bill Hader, the SNL guy from Barry, a skilled assassin. It made me take Barry seriously.

I agree so much with what Jerrod Carmichael said about forced diversity, because, most of the time, it's just tokenism. And tokenism isn't genuine; it's just a lot of virtue signaling by writers and directors to show everyone how liberal they are through their movies and TV shows instead of focusing on making an actually compelling story. I'm all for diversity and representation, but not when it's done just because it's trendy.

@bluefilmsltd
@bluefilmsltd 5 лет назад
Agreed. There is this weird assumption that every ethnic person wants a diverse cast just for the sake of it, but that's not true. Those are Hollywood actors complaining about that, the average ethnic person mostly wants to see a good, well told story on screen without forcing this diversity agenda down their throats. Also, it's all about people being a prisoner of their own perspectives, which everybody is to a degree. For example, you cannot expect, say, Bo Burnham, a white, upper middle class guy who makes films about personal experience, to include black and brown people just to be'diverse' because his upbringings simply did not involve interactions with those types of people. What IS needed is more people of colour giving opportunities to write and direct material - that's true diversity, not having token character this and token character that.

@@carmichaelk.5214 Except she is the characters you're calling a token and she knows people like the people she is writing. That is not tokenism. That is creating a story around people that she and others would love to see represented.
@xerozeven
@xerozeven 5 лет назад
I agree with him about the forced diversity leanings, but disagree with his school thing to a degree. Sure, on the macro level you will see races dividing off, no different than what America looks like generally from neighborhood to neighborhood. But if you look closer you will see breaks in those groups featuring other races which also represents many neighborhoods. On the micro level shared interest come into play regardless of background which is where natural diversity lies. Tokenism is a slippery slope for me and I'm not quick to label something as such unless it actually feels out of place or is actually in your face about what their trait is, whether it's race/gender/sexual orientation. A character may be the token character or it may be someone who just happened to be there and is not integral to the story and could have been anyone, but folks will say it's token anyway.

Came for the Hader! Loved the talk and critique of the writers room and self-censorship. This makes me want to check out 'Forever' and everything Jerrod Carmichael does. Saracho was literally incapable of doing anything but promote and echo "The Latinix Story", and her being at this table is the "lying for the sake of representation" that seemed to earn universal disdain in the room. Carmichael KILLED it over and over.

Every time Jerrod makes a comment, David Mandel responds to correct him; "I disagree and here's why."

I love these. J. Carmichael's one of those once-a-generation brains, Alan Yang's always picking interesting projects, Mandel and Rushfield are such pros, Saracho you definitely want to talk to for an hour. Soon as Hader said Taxi Driver, I thought of the phone scene, with which I had the exact same experience; single instance learning about what a movie can be. Alternately : In the info on top here, should it say "Vido" for Tanya Saracho? Not Vida?

@@AxelAxe Thank you! Experienced actors can relate to the younger ones; Stars who've recently detached themselves from the title 'child star' express how they navigate their career today now that they're independent.

@apseudonym

@@vanessa0111 she annoys the sh-t out of me. latino is already a gender-neutral term, but of course she has to use ~inclusive~ liberal jargon for everything. when she said "brown queers" i swear to god bill looked like he was going to laugh.

diane cry-anne nguyen yeah I know that’s what’s so stupid about using that word it’s totally unnecessary! Im starting to see it more often and it just bugs the shit out of me haha. And yeah I wouldn’t be able to not laugh if I heard someone say “brown queers” in front of my face 😂
