Tell me more how there is no shill bidding going on? This is what happens when a book is sold honestly without the shill bids or pumpers

Heritage owns that Detec 27 how else do you figure how they pumped it up a few years back and then bring it back out to see if they can sneak a few more hundred grand on it. Shill bidding at its best is what heritage does to real bidders. There worse then crack dealers

This time of year is NOT when you want to sell grail books. In Portland, OR, during May-August , that is when you can get stuff for like half off all summer. BAD BAD time to sell while market is saturated.

Excellent reporting on an auction I didn’t watch. I heard about the Cinderella love sale and that was it. Ive owned it twice so was surprised it went for so much as it’s not the rarest of the baker Romance books. The blue chip gold keys dropping was something I expected and glad i sold my marvel comics 1 early last year.

It’s not the best time to be selling comics. I’d never auction any of my big books for fear it would sell really low. It just depends on who is bidding at the auction. Whoever snagged that Detective #27 got a super duper deal!

True. Economy bad so people holding on to their money. Definitely a buyers market right now

Instead of focusing on the big sales during any auction, I would prefer a discussion of certain key books across different genres that sold at price points that might be more aligned with your average viewer. I really can’t get too excited or feign interest for a book that sells for 100’s of thousands of dollars since I could never afford that.

I've been collecting for two years & if I've learned anything it's that Comic books are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them.

Hi, Mickey....the Marvel 1, 4.5 was a weak sale. The restored Marvel, 7.0 was a monster. it was the October copy, and it did have strong eye appeal. Sold for over 200k!

I'm not sure what the point of this story is. If you look at the HA signature auction sales of the last day, the GA sales have been record-breaking on many, many books.
@joshuawyatt4381
@joshuawyatt4381 Месяц назад
The point of the story is that the exact same Detective Comics #27 CGC 4.5 that sold for 1.14 million in 2022 sold for $675,000 for a loss of approximately half a million dollars. Marvel Comics #1 CGC 4.5 sold for $288,000 down from the previous sold price of $360,000, down $77,000 on a book that was not covered in tape like the prior sale. The story is very clear unless you heavily invested in Golden Age books after losing your ass on Silver and Bronze in which case it is probably "a bit fuzzy".
@zoso73
@zoso73 Месяц назад
@joshuawyatt4381 I realize all of that, but markets of all types go up and down based on supply and demand (in this case, the lack thereof). Swaggle (and the title) says people forgot to bid, the summer time, etc. No. These massive grails were over-priced, and now we're seeing a correction which is good for the hobby. Conversely, GA books in the sweet spot 'affordable' category of $2K to $20K did remarkably well in this most recent HA auction.

I'd never sell anything like that without a reserve!
@dandelatorre1870
@dandelatorre1870 Месяц назад
The only thing I own that can even touch these super grails is a page from Whiz Comics # 2. I only paid $225 for it, it does not have an image of Captain Marvel but it is a from the original book. Of course CGC does identify it as the first appearance of Captain Marvel.

Same grades prices can’t be compared for low grade GA. You know, presentation, pq, defects.
@joshuawyatt4381
@joshuawyatt4381 Месяц назад
And some can, especially given that the Detective Comics #27 CGC 4.5 was the exact same copy that sold for half a million less. All variables can always be compared and accounted for, but Golden Age 'collectors' will say whatever they can to help cope with the reality of losing a grip on an overly inflated market. Reality is painful, and I imagine we will see a lot more of these books coming up for sale soon...

Hey, what’s up to tell you the truth, my amazing fantasy 15 6.0 looks just as good if not better than the 6.5 that sold.. I showed it to Heritage in October. At the New York comicon someone offered me $100,000 for my 6.0. .. I’m not selling my book I only paid $4000 years ago. The fair market value is $75,000.. no marvel chipping it’s friggin gorgeous. Heritage looked it over on my phone at that comic con and they sold one worse than my copy for $75,000..

Books that presented well for their grade did well. Books that don't present well for their grade did poorly. That's basically what happened at this auction.

Except the Detective Comics #27 CGC 4.5 that lost half a million was the exact same book. And the Marvel Comics #1 CGC 4.5 that lost $77,000 looked much better as it was not covered in tape like the previous copy.
