I’ve been looking at that shelf on and off for years in all its previous incarnations and other than a few key comics, I couldn’t remember what was on the shelf until now lol
I would love if you recorded a series called "Essential Bookshelf". It would be the essential trade paper for a character. For example, if you don't have all the single issue for Batman, be certain to get these 10 trades. I especially would like to get that coverage for XMen as I have not found a good entry point in to any of their series, except for Ultimates.

Thank you! I preferred single issues for a long time, I only really started switching over to trades within the last few years. I love the whole sensory experience of single issues, with the newsprint paper and the smell of ink and dust 👌
super cool & unique collection! As someone who aims more toward only buying the Hardcover format since its bigger and just feels nicer in hands, it still really cool to see someone have a large and diverse paperback collection. Im also a sucker for collection tour videos because its just always awesome to see the hobby through someone else's eyes and maybe find some new things you might be interested in. awesome video and collection man! )

Also that Dear President Johnson book looked super interesting so I sniped a copy on eBay for like $4 I’m looking forward to checking it out. Nah, I get exactly what you’re saying about it being a reference library. It’s brilliant, honestly. I like it a lot. Your channel has made me delve back into comics a bit more. I dunno how old you are but you seem like an awesome dude. Hell, I’d hate to debate you about vs battles, lol. Or maybe I’d love to because you’d school me good. I like being wrong if it means I learn something. I’m gonna go back to watching your video, just wanted to say I get what you’re going for and that it’s great.
I think my first comics were cartoons like super goof and underdog that my dad gave me, that was probably when I was around 6. Then I started buying comics for 50 cents or a dollar shortly after that; I didn’t start buying trades or graphic novels until my early teens, I think. I still love buying individual comics, but I’ve been prioritizing my bookshelf for a year or so now. Thanks for watching!
@@KurtWilliamsReviews I’m reading it for the first time, I’m on chapter 8 at the moment. While I can agree at times the pace slow. Eddie Campbells artwork though is outstanding, I find so many little details, and find myself spending extra time on each page just taking it all in. I’ve never read a comic with such an intense amount of visual storytelling. One of my favorite parts so far is the crumpled up calendar page after the first murder where if you look closely the page is shaped like the dead victim. I also appreciate when he’s showing the difference between Gull’s life and the street workers lives, and how his panels take up 2/3 the strips and theirs take up the other 1/3 setting the precedent that these women are beneath him. Truly some amazing art work.
Good question - I dislike his art, specifically after 1990. I’ve heard he’s a really cool guy, so nothing against him personally. His early work on X-men was just fine with me, and issues like Uncanny 206 come to mind as defining representations of 80s fashion and body language as far as my understanding goes. But when he came back around issue 300, his style had gone too far. Now I think everything he draws is too boxy, and has way too many lines that don’t serve any purpose. Every face is the same, and there’s no detail.
I’m not a fan of JRJR’s art either, his earlier work is good but his current stuff is not aesthetically pleasing especially on the current ASM run which already doesn’t have the best writing so the art makes it worse.
