So I finally bit the bullet and purchased one of the fastest super bikes on the market, the Yamaha R1 - I take it for my very first test ride, never ridden a super bike before. I travel nearly 2000 kilometres !! and give my thoughts on the bike !

As someone who has ridden over 100,000 miles on specifically R1's in the last 19 years, I can confidently say. The R1 does not have a fuel gauge because you'll never run out of gas before you have to stop and rest your bum/back/wrists.

Power... When I was a young bloke at tender age of 16, growing up in hokitika NZ, my dear old dads mates who were a good 10 years my senior, took me under their wings and taught me to respect motorcycles and the power they have. One day, my dads mate Karl asked me to go with the lads out for a ride to Lake kaneirie. But he had to make a stop at a mates place. 5 mins later he returned and said to me that I'm going to have to ride coz he was too stoned.. Lol. Up until then I had only ridden 50 to 125cc motorcycles. This was a brand new Suzuki GS1100G! I still remember cramp in my groin from throwing my leg over the wide seat. I remarked... This is a lot power mate.... You sure for me to ride... His comment... And it stuck with me til today.. He said... "the power is only there if you choose to use it"!! If any of those guys are following your channel... I owe them a debt of gratitude... Thank you lads... Again... The power is there if you choose to use it. Respect it and you'll live to ride another day...

Great video, thanks for making it!

I’ve a 1999 4XV and a 60th Anniversary (latest shape) and being totally honest the old bike is a better bike on the road, no question. Still always ride the yellow new one though!

It’s the Yamaha R1 motor in a frame more upright for touring. As for the headlight there’s nothing wrong with it, that’s your high beam & you seem to have switched it off. Not sure how a mechanic shop didn’t understand that one! Fish & chips analogy gave me a good giggle

Looking good with the new hair cut, back in 1994 I was about to take my bike test, I was going to buy the new CBR,900rr, unfortunately I was involved in a very serious incident while in the army and lost my left leg, because of the injuries I suffered on the other leg I couldn't ride a sports bike,, I can't get my feet on the rear sets so I've been on cruisers since I took the test, I now ride the fat bob 114 with a stage 3. Loving the R1, looks fantastic, but Keep safe Danny, I'm going through a bit of a hard time at the moment, always getting problems with my legs you've just got to deal with it and get on with life. , so I really look forward to watching your videos, you're a star that shines bright and inspires people to get out and put the miles in.

Loved your roar honesty mate, the excellent choice of background music and wish you all the best as we head into winter. Keep safe and practice when you can. I'm struggling to feel as comfortable on my CBR 600 after a Ninja 300 which is so light and controllable and with a more upright seating position. I am about to go out on a windy day in Ballarat.

That's what I'm learning on right now. A Ninja 300! What has been d most difficult thing for u to get used to on the 600RR? Thinking that in a season or two I might upgrade to a Kawasaki or Honda 650 becos of d kinder ergonomics.

Your wrists are hurting because you have to much weight on them relax on the bike and Don't Ride With Straight arms I've ridden supersport all my life and grip with your knees
@rhubarbcrumble3792
@rhubarbcrumble3792 3 года назад
Defy anyone to grip with their knees over any distance. Say 300 km stretches between fuel stops.
@camgere
@camgere 3 года назад
I totally agree. If you need to support yourself, grip with the knees and use your abs to hold yourself up. Work on that 6 pack while riding your motorcycle. Windblast may help to hold you up as well. Yes, you probably will put a bit of weight on your arms on long straightaways and under hard braking, but as you get in better shape you do this less and less. More importantly for steering you want your elbows bent and loose. Your should be able flap your elbows like chicken wings. You are feeling the front end moving around and exerting force to countersteer. You are looking into the turns. Steering while straight arming the bike is clumsy by comparison. R1's spend a lot more time going around corners than straight freeways. Whatever your personal choice, enjoy your ride!
@claretindustries8616
@claretindustries8616 3 года назад
@@rhubarbcrumble3792 i tried to explain it as simple as possible but its about body poisoning and griping with your inner thigh mostly when cornering as new riders will use their straight arms to corner not countersteering and mass over centerline
