I had seen very few Comma butterflies during the summer of 2023 and this was only my third. I was delighted to film it on some colourful Wayfaring-tree berries, and against the beautiful backdrop of Warren Hill, near Tidworth in North Hampshire.
This was a lovely example of the "typical" form of the summer butterfly, rather than the brighter-orange "hutchinsoni". The biggest bonus was the sequence of upperside flashes, later in the video.
