Fender USA Telecaster into a Marshall AVT 100 1x12 into my laptop as I play along to one of the best intro pieces written for a computer game. Long live Frank Klepacki!
@Finalknot Correct. I've spent an inordinate time playing that game in all its guises. My favourite however was the non-Westwood Generals version though.
@psychoangus Thanks! But i'm a total noob, not even sure how to read some of the tabs I found online.. Gonna pick up a guitar book to make sense of it..
@snakev10v5 Hey, this is a good vid for harmonics taken straight from the top of a search, coincidentally taught by a guy who used to teach me in guitar college! Ha ha! Make sure the edge of your thumb brushes the string when you pick the string (right on the edge of your thumb's knuckle) and if you're not getting them, try shortening the length of the pick in your finger and thumb (push it further up into your fingers) so only a tiny bit is showing.
Yeah it comes in straight after that ascend-descend roll so you have no time to 'prepare' for it! I play with 11s so thicker strings may help? It's all that Zakk Wylde sort of playing, he does loads of pinch harmonics on the top string at least every 5 seconds he plays! Just practice mate, you'll get there. :-)
Yeah some one else said this too, leave it with me, I'll get something up soon-ish! Good painting skills by the way, I used to play a lot of 40K when I was younger.
@razattack1337 I don't know if you're still wondering how to learn guitar, the best way is to get a teacher. But not everyone can afford that, myself included. In that case, there are two websites that'll come in handy: justinguitar and ultimate-guitar (especially the UG forums). Hope that helps.
Hey dude nice cover, can you do me one favor? Show a lesson on how to do pinch harmonics, like you do in this vid? I can't seem to do them right. Thanks for the awesome cover ^_^
@razattack1337 Course, and thanks. It wont take long to be able to play this sort of stuff. I started on Cream stuff like "Sunshine..." and AC/DC or Hendrix. This style of dropped-D playing (where the top string is tuned to D, not E) is very much like Helmet, especially their album 'Betty,' so if you like that, try looking at some of their stuff in tab on google. Message me if you want any more help.
that is soooo awesome man !!! could you share the tabs or perhaps do a vid with showing how to... ? I would appreciate...by couple of beers if you ever come in my country !! :D seriously !
I just found a video about Klepacki playing this riff by himself AND LMAO, like I thought, you're playing the main riff wrong like I've been doing it for past 10 years. Its NOT 0 0100 300. Its 0 0100 400, The fucking F note (3) is F# (4). This actually ruined this song for me right now because it should be F note instead of F# like you're playing it here. Its too happy if you hit it in a major. Goddamn it Klepacki. After all these years I've been living in a lie because of my own ears. And now this riff sounds so different. :'(
@URIZHEY Never played that game, wow, the music sure is crazy! A bit too crazy for my fingers I reckon! Pretty mad stuff! I'm sure a more shreddy guitarist on here can have a go at it!
@DrDopehat Hokay, it is in normal drop D. 1:20 to 1:37 is all octaves, first finger on the d string, little finger 3 frets up on the b string, all sliding into each position (on the d string 4th fret to 5th, down to 2nd, up to 4th, up to 8th, down to 7th, up to 10th) 1:37 is easier if I try and post a video for you! Message me your email address.
Could you point me in a good direction to start learning to play an electric guitar? Someone gifted me an entire set.. I don't know why, but I'm going to make the most of it. I'd love to play half as good as you some day...
