I was thoroughly impressed when you tied lore to gameplay mechanics at the beginning of the video, but you later went out of your way to reach out to Gavin for missing lore was chef's kiss. Super happy that you got to do the preview for this pre-con set, and I really hope you become a mainstay for future previews. Always looking forward to your videos!!
I love the straight to-the-point approach for this reveal. Gives a little background, shows the new cards and what they mean, shows the full decklist and that's it. No self-promotion, no milking of the content, just an honest deck review that we can all enjoy and move on. Thanks Muddstah!
@@txag007 it's a nice grond to start, a recent powerful card exclusive to commander, and kinda of a pack seller. If this is ok for reprinting, nothing should be off-limits
Now this right here is an EPiC way to showcase a deck! Well done sir! This is absolutely fantastic! Im glad that you have taken feedback from your followers and really knock previews out of the park now! 🎉🎉🎉 bravo! Also this is such a cool commander! I’m between this one and the party commander, we’ll see how they do once I get my hands on them haha
Considering the art of Passionate Archaeologist leads me to believe that this is a reference to the 5e prewritten adventure, "Tomb of Annihilation" which also includes the archaeologist and anthropologist backgrounds
If Jeska's Will signals the future approach for preprints and commander precons then it's a welcome change and a nice balance between new cards and high value ones
Prosper is getting spoiled like a mofo this set and I will need 2 copies of delayed-blast fireball for him and Toralf! Not to mention the exile AND treasure goodies this set! Ancient bronze dragon belongs in a Magda deck and will certainly fit in prosper where I have her! But man now I want to run this as a new commander! It would definitely be less abusable as treasures ended up being but it wants to do one of the many things green wants to do! Plus oh god that Jeska’s Will reprint is GAS!
Yeah I’m still mainly playing prosper. I’ve already gotten most of the cards in this deck and am probably just going to either order the single cards I am interested in or buy some of the balburs gate packs when they’re released. That background however as well as the beast demon yes please.
Prosper gets more goodies to work with, nice! On the other hand, i don't think the new cards are power houses, but that is fine. Looking at the rest of the decklist, it looks very solid and has some super sweet reprints. Def worth buying imo.
@@MTGMuddstah I listen while I drive for work, and it was hard to follow without being able to see the images. However I understand most of your viewers are probably watching not just listening
Delayed Blast Fireball is perhaps expensive, but it's easy to miss that it's an instant. You can cast it on the next player's turn after foretelling it if you so wish. I'm actually a little excited about building a Raggadragga deck (my Nikya deck never left its half-assembled stage). This would be a neat spell in that deck! On the actual deck; it seems neat! I'm a little on the fence; I got completely roped in by Mind Flayarrrs, but I think they did an okay job with this one. Will be interesting to hear what others have to say. On the reprints; some of these are very solid. Jeska's Will is solid. I do think Dockside Extortionist should be reprinted because it has no business being regarded as that valuable (yes, it's great and yes, I own three because I bought them for 'cheap' early). I think it'll get printed in a deck where treasures or artifacts are a core part of the strategy. The Brothers War set being the next after Dominaria, I think it could happen. Though to be honest, I play Dockside more to get a lot of tokens in Brudiclad. I wish there were effects similar to that and to Bootlegger's Stash in Izzet that made clue tokens or something. But I'm getting Irenicus's Vile Duplication, so I'm happy either way. Brudiclad's the one deck of mine that keeps getting snacks with almost every set.
Laelia, Urabrask, Jeska's Will and TWO planeswalkers to boot I feel like this might shot up in price after the list reveal. All decks so far, really, have very good expensive card reprints which makes me happy (about time!) and apprehensive cause the trend lately is to mark up whatever has something more expensive (Obscura Operation cost double the rest of the decks is absurd).
This might be a bit low value-wise compared to the other decks, since most of the new cards are very medium, on the other hand the reprints are very solid. I would recommend this deck to new players for sure.
Glad they unified all the exile matter stuff, Foretell and Suspend are great to see again. BTW, am i the only one annoyed at Durnan art and creature type? he is a warrior but looks as an innkeeper to me
@@ulisesr2782 he’s actually from Waterdeep but he’s an unnaturally long-lived human who’s a retired adventurer who manages his tavern the Yawning Portal. He showed up most recently in the Dungeon of the Mad Mage adventure book for 5e since the eponymous dungeon is located directly below his tavern, with the eponymous yawning portal located in the middle of the tavern’s first floor being its main entrance!
@@jemm113 Thats really cool! I havent had a chance to play DnD before cause, you kinda need a playgroup for it, but everything involving it is amazing. Hope i can play some of it this summer
the only disappointment I have is the color combo. ever since prospers release I've deeply enjoyed self discard because of containment Construct and conspiracy Theorist and their synergy with the cast from exile ability on them but now that there's a commander with both self discard and cast from exile it's gruul so no bone Miser, none of the amazing black discard outlets etc. atleast we still get birgi but boney boy is too much fun
The whole point of "impulse draw" or exiling a spell to cast it was that it was "cast it or lose it". Now the innkeeper lets you cast the card from exile forever. So it's like Draw, but with extra steps. Impulse draw should be just that, impulse draw. This deck in a typical game requires you to maintain 7 exile zones: "Cast this turn" "cast before the end of the next turn" "never cast" "cast with undaunted" "foretell" and "suspend" and "cast anytime".
Lovely video! Minor correction: Faldorn is recruitable in Chapter 4 of the original Baldur's Gate, not Shadows of Amn. She is in Shadows of Amn, but just as an enemy you have to kill (no recruitment possible).
For Journey to the Lost City, wouldn't 10-19 give the wolf +1/+1 for each creature exiled by Journey to the Lost City? So, if this has triggered more than once you can get as many counters as you have creatures exiled by it
Interesting deck. The decks commander is very interesting and i considered buying it for a friend who is new to mtg. the alternative commander + background is also very solid. Green slime is a card i would consider for my blink deck but i suspect it might be a too narrow niche for hitting only artifact + enchantments (without mana rocks, because mana abilities) The reprints are looking very good. i did not thought they would be putting a praetor in the deck (funnily enough the other urabrask would fit better). But the lands are utter garbage. I liked the small story details to each card. honestly this review is the only one i watched from start to end of the 3 deck reveals so far.
Okay the main set is kind of boring, but the reprints in this deck are almost a home run!! I'm glad they are too, because these are the first decks since the price increase!
I'm glad they only have 10 new commander cards in each deck but I wish it was less even. Like 5-7 seems right and put even more higher value reprints in it with those 3 spots. Nothing is stopping Wizards from putting more value in a novelty product they just raised the price on that has specific commander only unique cards in it.
