Commander Review: General Jarkeld 

I have Jarkeld as the commander of a banding tribal deck; it hasn’t won once but it’s a lot of fun to play

I my General Jarkeld from a pack in the fall of 95. "Back in my day..." some creatures were just awful, and despite having cast him numerous times, I don't recall being able to use his ability once. You have inspired me, and I think I'm going to give this a shot! My first thought was Martial Impetus but I don't know if there's any more goad-type in white

I'm glad that I'm not alone in thinking that this would probably be good as a Banding commander with a small token subtheme. You can use tokens or Abu Ja'far to "force" opponents to put up a big block against your band, only to move just enough of the blockers onto what effectively becomes Taunting Elf Lite.

I built a General Jarkeld deck. Based it around goad/stop hitting yourself. But it’s tough bc white doesn’t have a lot of support for this.

Jarkheld is so incredibly awful but I adore the idea of a genius tactician commander. I swear Ulfric Stormcloak in the Skyrim intro with his mouth gagged looks just like Jarkheld. Wonder if they were inspired by this artwork. There's actually so little of this effect in Magic, probably because it's word soup just to get it printed. Balduvian Warlord and Sorrow's Path aren't really giving this ability at a fair price either. I think Odric, Master Tactician was supposed to be the cleaned up version, but he's really not that good either outside of m13 limited. Very cool cards though.
