For the future, Toralf’s ability does not interact with protection the same way trample does. Because it requires excess damage to BE done, rather than changing how excess damage can be assigned, protection from red would prevent it from triggering because no damage was ever dealt.

Jon can't bring Tibalt in with the Helkite. That's not how MDFC's work, he would've gotten Valki, since that's the front face and Helkite puts into play.

Yeah, it's a strange interaction but that's how it works. Similar to Uro or Growth Spiral and MDFC lands

@@thaneofstuff7340 No, that is not how it works. You can only choose the other side if you are playing (casting) the card. The Helkite puts the card into play, you don't get to choose the side. Same with Uro, you can't put a MDFC spell land in to play because the game sees it's front side (the spell), not the land side.

I couldn't find anywhere that said that was the case. does the rules say that somewhere? EDIT: I found this in the rulings: If an effect allows you to play a land or cast a spell from among a group of cards, you may play or cast a modal double-faced card with any face that fits the criteria of that effect. (2021-02-05) "Any face that fits the criteria" would seem to indicate Tibalt was a face that was a commander, so it would be acceptable...

@@MunchKING MDFC rules from Mark's Blogatog; "In any zone other than the stack and the battlefield, an MDFC is considered to be the front side." Now, when you have an effect such as "put into play" the card being out into play isn't using the stack. So the criteria has to be met before hand. EVERYTHING will see MDFC's as their front side, which in this case it's Valki, and nothing else. You cannot choose the other side unless you are casting, i.e. using the stack.

Further down in Valki's rulings, it says: "If an effect puts a double-faced card onto the battlefield, it enters with its front face up. If that front face can’t be put onto the battlefield, it doesn’t enter the battlefield." The word "put" is the relevant one, as that is what Hellkite says. The other ruling only has to do with "play" or "cast".

Ability of hellkite put your commander on the battlefield. Double faced cards enters battlefield only it's main face. That means "You can't put Tibalt on battlefield, you can do this only with Valki"

My playgroup changed Noxious to Obnoxious Gearhulk since I started using it in my Chainer Deck. Last game I won simply because I had Altar of Dementia, Chainer and Noxious Gearhulk although earlier that game I kept them in check with Painful Quandary, LOL that mono green player was so happy to finally deal with that enchantment only to say hello to Gearhulk wiping their board and than me winning with their reanimated creatures. Hands down my favoritest deck on VS :P

Jon cheated with Sanctum of Eternity, you can only activate it on your turn, but he activated it on Jeremy's end step around the 21 minute mark.

Not so minor nitpick: Jonathan couldn't have put Tibalt on the battlefield with Hellkite Courser's ability. Since the ability puts it into play you don't get to choose which side it enters as. It's the same as why you can't put Shatterskull's landside on to the battlefield with something like Growth Spiral.

The rules surrounding commanders are different. The commander isn't the face of the card it is the CARD itself and therefore you can choose the other side. He couldn't choose the different side if he was putting Valki into play from his hand as a part of something akin to growth spiral, but because it specifically said "commander" and "from command zone" there is a significant difference.

@@Lashkor That's because the card you would play would say "exile creature" or "exile permanent". The special commander rules apply to commanders in command zones and sometimes on the field on only that specific card. For example if you make a token copy of your commander it doesn't deal commander damage even though it has the same name, etc. Hellkite courser is not like other cards because it says put your commander into play from the command zone and Tibalt is technically also Jon's commander. It's not that hard to understand dude.

John cant use hellkite to 'put' tibalt into play. It works the same as a growth sprial with mdfc lands. Only valki can be 'put' into play.

Pretty sure Hellkite Courser can't put Tibalt into play. Same reason you can't put the back side of the MDFC lands into play off of something like Uro or Growth Spiral. A card like Geode Golem would work, though, because that actually *casts* the card, which lets you choose which side to cast (similar to cascade).

It'd be great it you could give an update for the point reward between the last and current episode; for example: instead of just showing today's point board (see: 2:34), you could add bullet points explaining the point difference since last week. For example, for Jon Suarez: +2 for third place +1 for First blood On that note: shouldn't he be at 13 pts? Since he was at 10 last week?

So Hellkite Courser puts a thing into play, it doesn't let you cast that thing so you shouldn't have been able to get Tibalt off of it. Only Valki would have been put into play.

They do, if an mdfc is put onto the battlefield you don't get a choice, you only get a choice of face when the card is played (for lands)/ cast (for non-lands).

Using sorcery speed abilities on other people’s turns and cheating out the backside of a mdfc onto the field when rules say it only puts the front side of the card onto the battlefield. C’mon man, if your going to build a deck around a card at least google how it would work, it takes 5 minutes at most.

Courser and Tibalt do not work together. You can only put Valki into play with it, not the Tibalt face.

Pretty sure Hellkite can't put Tibalt down.....A modal double-faced card can’t be transformed or be put onto the battlefield transformed. Ignore any instruction to transform a modal double-faced card or to put one onto the battlefield transformed.

only if the card says that you get to cast a card do you get to choose when something like this says put you have to use the front side which is why the half land creatures and spells are not better than they are because if you could just genesis wave through them it would be amazing
