Breaks that aired during a broadcast of IS THIS GOODBYE, CHARLIE BROWN? and HOW BUGS BUNNY WON THE WEST that aired on WTVJ-TV in Miami. The station, which was on channel 4 back then, went on the air at 12 noon March 21, 1949. It was Florida's first television station and was owned by Wometco Enterprises, a national movie theatre chain headquartered in Miami. When Jackie Gleason relocated his CBS-TV show to Miami Beach from New York, WTVJ originated his broadcasts. Mitchell Wolfson, the founding head of Wometco, died the year before this was recorded, and it was during the year of this recording that WTVJ was sold to an investment firm by the name of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Company. KKR attempted to sell its stations to Lorimar-Telepictures in 1986, but failed. CBS, the network with which WTVJ had been affiliated at the time, made an offer to buy WTVJ for well below KKR's asking price. In the autumn of 1987, channel 4 finally found a buyer in NBC; on January 1, 1989, after 42 years with CBS, WTVJ formally switched to the Peacock Network. On September 10, 1995, WTVJ moved from channel 4 to its present channel 6, promoting itself on air as NBC 6 South Florida.
