Hi Chris you should have put a double stud either side of the door frame makes the door frame stronger. And those door frames are not much good as you are supposed to by right have your hook come down at least a foot each side of your frame as when you bang your door the taping joint don't crack. You where correct on the 1st sheet you installed but the 2nd sheet should come down 12" at least so it covers below the 1st hinge.

That’s one way but the finisher is gonna hate you after taping around all your door legs after 200 doors 😂 an it looks like you only have one door stud for some reason other than that great job. Can’t stress how much I loved seeing you put that laser on the hinge side. I get called dumb for doing this all the time.

Yeah I remember this job, we taped and painted it. I was still new at taping. Nowadays I always put the expandable frames on after I tape. Good call!

Amazing work! I am opening a Cafe in New Jersey and they are asking me to put 2 Hr Fire Rated Drywall and that is 2 layers of 5/8. Do I have to put it directly on the old wall or old wooden beams or can I just come out like 2-3 Inches and frame and build a new wall? I would love to know please because there is some metal sheets and old plaster on the old wall and would not want to DEMO so would like to Frame away from the old wall and install new power and plumbing and put the 2 layer dry wall. Can I do that?

Excellent question, So what I would do is laminate or drywall the old wall one more layer 5/8" because techinaclly you need double layer both sides, then frame a furring wall tight and add your top 2 layers of 5/8" to the outside for a nice finish, does that make sense to you?

Do you need wood stud inside to make sure the door frame secures correctly? Or just secure door from inside metal stud onto it?

If it's a steel door frame you only need steel stud. If your using a wood jam then you need either plywood wrapping the opening or wood stud.

Have you worked for a union? If so, do you recommend it?

I have worked for unions yes. I recommend it to new workers because it is a great place to learn. I don't recommend it for people who want to advance quickly. Nothing wrong with working union and taking advantage of all the learning resources available and then going private when your ready!

Some frames yes, if its a knock down with an adjustable width your good, or if you use wood jambs. Otherwise the doors always go in first. Just remember to add 3/4" plywood to the studs (inside or out) for wood jambs.
