Today I join my friend Mikey on the Commercial Fishing Vessel Julie Girl offshore from the coast of Cornwall to help him work his nets and bring them ashore. I am spending a day in the life of a Monkfish fisherman. Monkfish is the common name given to fish in the Lophius family of fish. These are a deepwater species of fish that lives on the seabed luring in and ambushing its prey. We work his commercial nets, then prep, clean and land the catch. Mikey sells much of his catch direct through his fb group - groups/27525...
If you want to buy fresh local and sustainably caught fish straight from the fisherman be sure to give him a message.

What a lot of snarky people there are today. It just shows how small peoples attention spans are and how little they understand about the work that goes into making content. This is a different video filmed on a completely different day to the first monkfish video published 1 month ago. Be grateful, be nice or do not comment. It’s that simple. 👍🏻

I at first thought it was a repeat of the earlier Monkfish episode. The point is it’s a different video about ‘a day in the life’ of a commercial fisherman. Yes it’s Ground Hog day in that the graft needed to catch the ‘catch’ is never commensurate with the reward. Ignore the ill informed. I find it fascinating. 👏👏

John, I know it's counterproductive but we folks like to have our 'cake' and eat it too occasionally. Saw today's posting (Sunday 11 June '23) and I enjoyed it too. Two nice pollacks to take home. Gave it a thumbs-up 👍 it was fine fishing as you stated. Did I miss the posting with Jim cooking up the Monkfish cheeks? I've had halibut cheeks and they are a 'treat'. I am a video producer in North Carolina and I have fished since the early 1970's. This is one of the best, most realistic commercial fishing videos I have ever watched in your part of the world. I was guessing you were around the English Channel. Here off the NC coast, there is a small fleet of bottom fishing boats that fish on the NC continental drop, about 50 miles offshore, 300 - 400 feet of water for snapper, trigger fish, grouper and many others. Your video reminds me of that deep drop trip. If you guys made 10 hours of content, I would watch all of it!
