I recently got an Amiga 1000 as a donation. Now I finally took it out of the box and started the restoration work on it. Oh boy, it was dirty inside.
Checking the status of the machine, cleaning the whole machine inside and out. Replacing a RIFA-cap, servicing the floppy drive.

@@Arcticretro I had an Amiga 1000 in Summer 1987, the build quality was out of this world, it was better than the high end 80186 PCs we had at School that cost three times more, it was also much nicer than the Amiga 2000 I got in 1990. Everything about the Amiga 1000 was pure class.

Before I even watch, I know I'm going to love this video. I have my teenage Amiga 1000 in the closet, which I'll refurb one day (after I've done enough other projects that I'm confident I won't destroy it in the process). So, seeing someone with more experience go through a restoration of the same machine is great! Thank you!

I would probably look as a separate project replacing the power supply with something more modern. It will cut down on weight and heat generated inside the case and replace the fan with a quiet version. I take it you are going to recap the entire motherboard in the next part? I would have recapped the floppy disk drive as they generally get noisier when the capacitors are older and worn out.

I have only ever owned one Amiga 1000 and it was not given to me!!!!! It cost me £800 in 1985. So jealous. EEEEEEUW get that IBM sticker OFF NOW !!! lol

Can you tell me the make & model of the floppy drive? I like this shorter profile version vs the taller ones I typically see in A1000s. Looks easier to access and clean as well.

Hey, why you replaced the cap in the power supply? Do they always go bad? I have the 1000 also. Other than that, all the capaictors look good.

Old RIFA caps can go bad when old. Then they explode. Usually no problem, but a lot of bad smoke and smell

I have ordered one of those cleaning floppies. Do they work ok? I don't have the confidence to pull apart the drive to do it buy hand. I did tape two cotton buds together So could reach the heads through the front opening :) worked for a few disks then Wouldn't read again .

I think they are good for cleaning the heads only. But usually you should clean the stepper motor axel and the rails too. They get wey dirty with old grease
