Another fantastic video. The 1000 keyboard was decent quality and build. The big issues I personally experienced has been failures in Commodore SX64 keyboards. I have two that are not working too well.

Chris you're like a character from the Cheers TV sitcom - funny and entertaining! Never stop recording, even when you have to go to Burger King :P

I received 2 keyboards last year when buying an A1000, and they both had many non-working keys. I was surprised how many of them I could fix by bending the metal legs a little! I easily got one fully working keyboard to use with my A1000, the other is just for spares as it's also missing some key caps.

I have seen people on RU-vid think that they have fixed switches in the past and then find out that their fix didn't hold so I would not be too upset about having spare parts around. Cleaning out your own mess from a keyboard sucks, let alone cleaning out the mess that somebody else left behind.

Great Upload Chris 👍🏻 Yep learnt this time you’re left Handed 😉😆 But seriously did learn that the A1000 differs from other Commodore Keyboards. I don’t personally own a A1000 but what you shown there will definitely help someone out. Nice!

I learned having shelves of stuff is better than not having them. As time passes things just either get priced way too high or become harder to find. Its not about he money is about keeping our old friends alive. I also have adaptors so that I can use keyboard from the A2000, A3000 and even PS2 with my A1000 and I did the same with the mouse port. I do have a working original A1000 Mouse but my A1000 lives in my Amiga Rack so I had to convert the Keyboard and Mouse connections over to PS2 to connect the old girl to PS2 but the fully functional keyboard lives in its original home the Keyboard Garage. Parts is good not having access to parts is bad bad bad bad.

cool, than you! exactly what i needed. i hesitated to open and repair my keyboard as i thought it may contain rubbers.... but seems repairable :D ... will start soonish. also i was able to get 6 brandnew nos switches for the a1000. i hope i wont need them.

Keyboards harbour more germs than toilet seats. Somebody should find a way to use zoilet seats for keyboard input.

Yes, bending out the 2 spring legs is exactly what does the trick 95% of the times. After having done that 87 times you’re getting very good at that. How do I know? Had to desolder all keys. Had to open and repair almost all of them. Took 3 days to do that. Did not do that on my other 1000 :)

Yeah its a pain. You get better as you go along. I wanted to paint it but didnt want to desolder all those dang keys

If the Amiga 1000 keyboard had the highly desirable Alps switches, you wouldn't be able to find them without paying a hefty fortune. Vintage keyboards with Alps switches are sadly poached for the switches.

Been there… it was a nightmare!! I also carefully repainted (with a small brush) the black plate after polishing it and removing the rust. By the way… does your keyboard stink? Mine does, even after all that polishing and repainting! Quite unpleasant!

no stink, just crusty af!

Do you still hold on to those spares? Cause i can't find one and desperately need an escape key switch. Mine has been tinkered with by the previous owner :-)

i have 4 switches, but no spare keys.
@DoubleA-WTH

@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration That would be a perfect fit. Because i have no switches, but keycaps from a salvaged ibm mitsumi keyboard.
