This song was the Commodores' next to last Top 10 r&b crossover for them on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Soul charts in the late summer of 1981. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song peaked at the #7 spot and went all the way to peaked at the #1 spot on Billboard Soul chart. This song is definitely banger indeed!!!

The funny thing about some songs is that you may not particularly like them, but because of the timeline it reminds you of they can grow on you. This is one of those songs. The summer before 9th grade was an amazing time. Went to Montreal and we went wild😉
My favorite Commodores song… a very up beat post-disco soul bop that actually makes you feel “10 feet tall” when you hear it. I also recall that Lionel was getting all the name recognition at this time- like “Lionel Richie and The Commodores” and sure enough he went solo shortly afterwards.

Such a great post-disco, early '80s funk-r&b classic. Weirdly, I never heard it until my 30s, even though it came out the year I was born! It was a top 10 hit when it came out, but I don't think it lingered in the cultural consciousness the way other Commodores songs did that I always heard growing up (Brick House, Easy, Nightshift, etc). So when I finally heard it and saw the fabulously fun video, I was like....how did I never hear this growing up?!? It's great, glad you loved it!
