They did another version for the radio that was more R&B with a piano solo instead of the electric guitar for this song.

Empress react to Vanessa Williams upbeat Latin song Refugio De Amor. She is American but she killed it dancing and singing in Spanish. It is fire !!!! 🔥

As a Five Star fan, they can do no wrong, but the album this track came from had more catchier bops. But at the time in 1987, this song was fun and uplifting.

Wow, she looks young! "One Less Bell to Answer" is Burt Bacharach and Hal David composition from 1967. I'm more familiar with the version by The 5th Dimension that was a top ten hit in 1970. Barbra Streisand recorded it in 1971 for her thirteenth studio album, Barbra Joan Streisand. The medley with the vocal overdubs is a really nice touch. She was approaching 30 at the time, so not so young after all, but definitely in her prime.

This was very very good tho I prefer the cover by the Fifth Dimension. Marilyn McCoo excelled singing this. I'm a fan of Babs but didn't care for all her songs as I didn't of my favorite group till now Credence CCR.

***(70's) BABS TRIVIA TIME!!*** ...One less Babs is sad (2:36)..but, TWO, makes a HOME.....(6:19) .... - ...bravo. ...a CLASSIC performance, from the Burt Bacharach 197(1) TV Special that Babs guest starred on.....this was originally done on her 1971 "Barbra Joan Striesand" Album as a 'duet' with HERSELF, to meld the 5th Dimension track ("One Less..") with the (then) lesser known Dionne Warwick LP cut ("House Is Not...") ...Luther changed THAT, later...... - ...Babs did it, as an 'Actress' piece, and brought that over to the TV version; she 'cut' an earlier performance, and 'reacted' to it, to get the 2nd performance...She's actually looking at HERSELF, while singing it! ......(2:08) - ...It was never a single (she released her live 1972 Album, after, and only 2 singles came from 'BJS' ("Where You Lead" & "Mother"), but Fans went CRAZY for this version! (6:45) .....Empress did, TOO.... *P.S.* ; ...Babs is also wearing the HOTTEST Fashion item, back then....the *MAXI!!* ...loved those dresses.....

Loved your reaction, Empress, thanks! Great comment about the lead person blending in with the background members and being even smoother. Also about the integrated audience. This dancing by James blows my mind. I bet he was a good athlete. Seemed like he was on ice with the sliding and how quick he was. He definitely had to get the right soles on his shoes to even enable the possibility of what he did. He blows people today out of the water with his showmanship and sheer skills, as you said.

***FIVE STAR TRIVIA TIME!!!*** ...whenever you're ready, 'cause I AM.......(3:22)...... - ....Oh, soooooo much trivia.....MUCH! .....Five Star CLEARLY were influenced by the Jacksons, but with them being from the UK, they stood out im-meeeediately, because 1. the group were more Female-friendly (because of Sisters Deniece, Lorraine & Doris Pearson), and 2. the 'lookalike' Brothers Stedman & Delroy (that resembled Malcolm Jamal Warner & Michael Jackson)...... - ...they garnered R&B notice FAST with "All Fall Down" in the USA (#12 R&B, Nov. 1985), then, hit the Top Ten with "Let Me Be The One" (#2 R&B, March 1986), and hit #8 R&B with a 6 minute remix of "Love Take Over"....but, they were SLAYING on the Pop charts in the UK! - ....The UK only tunes "System Addict" hit #1 Pop, and the other tunes, "RSVP", "Hide & Seek", "Winning", & "Crazy" ALL went Top 20 Pop....and these were all from their DEBUT Album! ...their 2nd Album ("Silk & Steel") had SEVEN Top 20 (UK) Pop hits!!! ...they.....were......BIG......................... - ....but, they also were big....in the HEAD; they were rumored to have gotten VERY snotty, and holier than THOU, and it turned off UK fans.....their 3rd Album ("Between The Lines"), released this tune as the 1st single (Summer 1988), and it stiffed........ - .....they had the issue of being too "Pop" for (USA) Black audiences, and too "Black" for (UK) audiences (5:00) ....But they are VERY good and talented....do MORE of thier stuff, Empress, you will LOVE them.....TRUST............

One thing I never hear people mention is the line "And we Sang Dirges in the Dark, The Day the Music Died". Well, that is another reference to a Buddy Holly song called "Oh Boy", Buddy wrote/sings a line, "Im gonna sing my Dirges tonight!" However, to this day, I must confess I don't know what "Dirges" are? I was always going to look it up, but never did. Obviously, Buddy Holly and Don Mclean both understood the definition of the word even though it is not a very commonly used term. I just figured this out earlier today that the word Dirges is in both songs. As most people get that "This'll be the day that I Die" is in plural from (more than one singer) from Buddy Holly's song That'll Be the Day" (that I Die). However, they all seem to miss the reference to the song "Oh Boy" when Mclean says "We all sang Dirges in the Dark". Like I said, just realized this today, and it wasn't by doing any research on-line. So I don't know if this has ever been brought up before or not?

The video with the small white squares contrast to the black vinyl clothing was purposeful because it takes more effort to move in that material sort of like being held down or back within a confined space. The revisit to S&M clothing was to make sure everyone understood what exactly she was doing. Madonna choose cornrows because it is symbol as you must know of resistance. Madonna sold 6 Million copies of Erotica making it a 6x platinum despite all the backlash and has always been considered a failure. She has always ahead of the game. In August 2017, 25 years after its release, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has recognized Erotica, (her career ending album) as one of the most revolutionary albums of all time. Both the album and Sex Book have been inducted. Sex sold out in record time and remains the most in demand out of print book.
