Common Bearded Dragon Owner Mistakes

I prefer Megaray over powersun. I used powersun with my red eared slider and it would go out about every 6 months. The Megaray on the other hand has lasted 5 years and just stopped working last week. It's been producing good UVB the whole time as I bought a UVB meter for checking. One thing that I did learn is that tile from home depot can make an excellent floor, however, if you have a female dragon you're going to want a wool/cotton/felt blanket over the floor instead as when it's spring time female bearded dragons get the urge to scratch the ground to burrow. Normally you'd just provide a lay box however my dragon decided the lay box was for eating all the sand and still scratched at the tile instead. She scratched so hard her nails bled and there was blood all over the enclosure. I have a felt sack that she goes in to lay eggs in instead.

My beardie never drank out of a bowl so I just give him a bath now and agin

I love this video. I learned that using a water bowl isn’t good because it can cause too much humidity. I was told it’s best to spray water on its greens and bathe them. I hope this helps

There is no way to say this uvb bulb or that uvb bulb is correct for X species. If someone with a low enclosure chooses a T5 they may burn their animal. If someone with a T8 has a high enclosure, the animal won't get the uv needed. It's the same for uv percentage or output of the bulb . I will write a small and easy guide to correctly choose a uvb bulb and this guide is applicable for any species, reptiles, birds, amphibians, mammals, etc and any UV lamp 1st step: You need to know what are the UV requirements for the animal you have. Look for the Ferguson zone. Bearded Dragons are intermediate between zone 3 (open sun basker) and zone 4 (Mid day sun basker). What does this mean? The UV index readings in the hot spot should be between 3 and 7. 2nd step: You need to know the height of your enclosure (or distance from uvb bulb to hotspot); 3rd step: Check the results of the UV index measurements of the bulbs according to the distance to the lamp. Dr Fran Baynes is a veterinary that dedicates her life to testing bulbs and she has really interesting graphics for almost all lamps in the market. They are very easy to read; 4th and last step:Choose the lamp that gives the UV index your animal needs at the height of your terrarium (or distance to hotspot). If you follow these steps, you can be sure you are choosing the right lamp, wether it is a T5, a T8, compact or mercur vapour.

I use, like, and have no issues with reptile specific pellets. They can add variety to the diet and give your dragon nutrition. Of course, as with all things, there are drawbacks, and you must not feed your beardie only pellets. However, they can be useful and good for beardies.

Did my research and we went for reptile carpet this time. And will switch to tile too 👍. Supplementation portion cleared things up for me. Thanks 🙏

Another thing is dont feed them mealworms especially as babies. Baby beardies can digest chitin (exoskeleton) that well, plus they give little nutrional value, even if you gut load the chitin/nutrient level doesnt warrant the risk of impaction (it does help if heating and UV is correct). Superworms are a slightly better choice but they are fatty.

What is your opinion on dried flowers. I bought a bag but have read that many people dont use\know of the flowers?!

I’ve seen from some research that pinching the skin to see if they are hydrated or not is not an accurate way to tell if they are hydrated. I’ve been told to watch if their eyes are sunken in or if their “pee” is white and not yellow. I may be wrong but i just wanted to put that out there

i hate the fact none of the pet stores near me sell calcium without d3🙄 i had to order some flunkers off amazon my rescue beardie is dehydrated.. i spray his veggies with water but he doesn’t eat them till the next day no matter how i change the schedule. i soak him once every 2 weeks. and when i had a water bowl in his tank he never drank from it so idk what to do

I have a bearded dragon for around 5 years never given him supplements or vitamins I don’t use uvb light he gets at least 4 hours sun in his enclosure and he is happy healthy and more than chilled.not all animals reptiles or otherwise as humans are not as you know the same.

Do you think the shape of an enclosure effects the quality of life for crested geckos? I'm building one , tall ofcourse , but want to possibly do only three sides so it can display on a corner well. I know for fish round aquariums dont work for all.

I am using a 55 gallon for my dragon. I plan to take him out of it to run around my bedroom everyday. As an adult will he be healthy and happy in a 55 gallon?

Well my latest video made some people mad and one guy told me on Facebook that I should get shot 😅 So trust me when I tell you that it doesn't matter what the video is about, if you give your opinion somebody will always have different opinions.. but as long as they're respectful then it's good. The number one mistake I see people do is go to stores like PetSmart/Petco and listen to their "advise" instead of doing their own research. And that takes them to make so many different mistakes, including some that you mentioned

it is realy sad how simple mistakes can be fixed yet people dont act. for example, someone i know keeps there bearded dragon under a red heat lamp all day AND all night. :/ Edit: the bearded dragon just died... she also fed him only pellets, kept him on sand in a REALY small tank. :(
