In grades K-2 of WriteSteps, the teacher models everyday, and students write everyday. Often the writing assignment says, "Assign a prompt or a free choice writing." When this occurs, you can model and assign a prompt that is tied to the text. Examples: write about the main character in today's reading story; think about our science chapter, and tell about seeds you have planted; remembering about our social studies unit on community helper, write about a community helper you would like to be.
we were not taught this way, common core is complex and stupid and make it harder for kids to learn math, the way we were taught in the 80's was easier and simpler and the teachers alwys showed us on the chalk board first, simple way is like this= 34 + 18, 8 +4 = 12, carry the 1 over above the three, 1 +3 +1 =5, answer 52, 34 + 18 is 52 simple easy to remember, non of this complex confusing common core crap.
