Hello everyone! Welcome to my video in which I go over some of the most common fingering mistakes I've seen people make on the flute. Enjoy! Book a Skype lesson/session with me: www.LaurenTeach...
Thanks Lauren, I noticed you didn't mention the F# in the first 2 registers. I was taught to use my right middle finger, but then I learned that I should use the 3rd finger. It sounds the same to me, and is now difficult to train my brain to use different fingering. (I'm fairly new at the flute.)
Yes, a very good point ;), I agree use the 3rd finger for low and mid F#, as your tone develops more and more I think the difference can become more obvious..but the 2nd finger F# can sound more dull and resonate less than the 3rd finger. I'd take the time to learn the 3rd finger F# in the lower registers, 5 note scales with F# may be a good starting exercise ^_^
@@laurenteachesflute3583 i use middle finger for F# in first and second octave for some passages where the dynamic is pp or ppp when I don't want to have so much resonance but more a tiny sound. I don't know if I make good. What can you say? Thanks a lot
Interestingly most of this applies directly to eight-key simple system flutes as well. I’m ok raising the first finger for middle register D and Eb but venting the Eb key for low E and other notes is a real pain for traditional Irish music which is usually in modes of D, G, and A so tons of D naturals and low D specifically all over the place in fast passages. Total pain. It sounds great vented though. Better intonation too. Sigh. Great video!
