Hello everyone! My name is Lauren and I am a flutist and flute instructor for students of all ages and levels of playing. I have been playing since 1998 and teaching professionally for over 10 years.
Feel free to browse my channel, I talk about many flute and music related topics and share music performances/recordings as well.
Thanks a million. As an adult re-learning, of all the pieces that I got stuck on, Freres Jacques, specifically the slur from b flat to upper f 1st forte, then repeat piano. So embarrassing. This video will enable you to slur this cleanly and smoothly with ease. You are a great teacher.
Thank you, your videos are so great. My daughter has a concert coming up and she is very anxious because she is just expected to know the music, do you have or know where I can find sheet music with fingers for Create Feature, Hobbit Dance and Thunderstruck (not the ACDC one!)?
i bought keyflute from ebay for 130 AUD couple of years ago and struggles alot with it .. i moved to indian bamboo flute and after geting comfortable with it .. i picked up keyflute again and found that i can play the c a b but not g f e d c ... is it the flute cuz i can play higher or lower notes on bamboo flute .. can someone please guide me
Thank you for this excellent topic. I started to learn the flute at 50. I am almost 52. i want to scream because I still do not have a pretty flute tone. I am lucky because I have a patient teacher and I subscribe to informative and inspirational channels such as this one. You are one of my favorites as you have very practical solutions. Thank you?
I enjoyed this video. It has really helped. I am using Trevor Wye's Beginner book 1, you don't see d until page 35. It has helped redevelop my embouchure. Yes to long tones.
It is helping to get better on F#. Then get a little stronger on F and I'm starting to make a little sound on E. I'm brand new at this. Retired adult musician, teaching myself to play! Thank you!
Hello! I have never used a flue and bought one. I would like to buy that Pneumo-Pro but the link is not working. What is it really called and thank you for the good video.
Quick question! Is the fingering the same for both octaves of E going up? I'm getting the lower octave sound everytime and I noticed that the fngering is the same, yet Lauren played a higher octave!! Please help =[
Thank you Lauren! Even after a couple of days I can feel the difference this exercise is making, not just to quiet high notes, but to high notes in general... because if you can play high notes quietly then you can easily play them louder too :) I think there are three reasons why this exercise works so well: 1) Playing quietly forces you to find the right embouchure and air speed for each note 2) Playing slow/long notes gives you time to optimise that embouchure 3) Then you are also in a good starting position for the next note, because you are just stepping up chromatically. So thanks again for a great exercise!
When you put braces on you have to relearn the embouchure. And on pulling them off as well. When I started to play the baroque wooden transverse flute (called "traverso") I had already braces putted on my teeth two years before. It sucks because we need a very flexible lipwork in order to improve intonation due to the fact that the traverso doesn't have all those dreadfull key mechanisms to pitch the notes. Thus all traverso players need to "adjust" intonation with their lips and tube in and out rotation.
Hi 🙏🏼from Australia, I picked up a flute and a clarinet at the same time. Never ever touched one of them before. But got attracted to them for some reason. Took it home and watched lots of videos and managed to play a song on clarinet in few days. But I wasn’t very successful with the flute. But watching your videos I must say you are the best so far. The way how you explains everything is so much with love and passion and I am sure that I should be able to pickup the basics fairly quickly. Thank you for your effort.
you are probably not gonna see this but can you please do more of these types of videos I just started playing the flute and I have a lot to catch up on and it would mean a lot if u made a video on how to play all of them for beginners and how to get the right sound because mine sounds a lot airy and im trying to get it more perfect pls make one it would help out a lot
i’ve learned that F# is not only easier and more comfortable to play with my middle finger instead of my ring, but it also plays more in tune for my flute
hello, can you tutorial a song on flute that there is a high and low notes and you can teach us to hit that low or high notes something like that, there no flutist who teaches like that yet, is hard to explain it..😅😅😅😅
thanks for this tutorial, but sometimes i dont listen to what you are sayin im just watching the way you talk, smile and laugh it makes me more interested to learn the flute. 🎉🎉🎉😊😊
