If The Message is the greatest rap song of all time, I Used to Love Her definitely is a strong second.

@@aldogutierrez1097 I just found out what they're referring to. Apparently solid entertainment news reported on here that common passed away 2 years ago. It was a hoax

To bad hip hop music right now doesn't sound this good anymore because this song is a classic and Common to me deserves more credit as a MC. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.

Highlights of this song and video; Kenwood Liquors and Harold's Chicken on Stony Island, the Chicago rock band LP record, the George Benson sample, Common reminiscing on hip hop and H.E.R.!

All middle school students should have to listen to this song, watch the video and write a report on the message in the song. Also before they graduate from the 8th grade they should have to watch the episode of "Tales From The Hood" at the end with Crazy K in it and write a report about the message in it also. 🌬️🤺💣💰

I'm about to drop a rhyme on this throwback beat. I put my own spin, and concept on this and I titled it "I Had A Crush On H.E.R." Let it be known I'm not copying his style. So, mad props to the originator himself. 1st verse: Got acquainted with this chick when I was 12 years old what I love most she had so much soul hencetime I was a shy kid who always stayed single but she was the outgoing type who really loved to mingle her characteristics were truly all-around she would leave a great impression on people when she come to town I would never chase females but it was something about this one all jokes aside I would blush when she come now she can be immature and rowdy but she's well educated multi-talented, eloquent and a little sophisticated here and there we would have brief conversations eventually we bonded and established standard relations when mom pulled long hours I invite her to spend the night we be chillin' and kickin' it until the morning daylight our little interchange would be so intellectual when the late hours approached we did nothing sexual back then the weekends would be a blast always tell you the truth those were the good old days 2nd verse: Mama said 'conversation brings on assimilation' and this chicks words gave me ultimate inspiration if she have something on her chest; do you know what she would do? she would creatively versify her thoughts to you meaning she'll express her emotions through poetry and rhythm in the heart and in the mind is where she'll always hit 'em some thought she was a "dumb broad" for dropping out of school but in my observation she wasn't anybody's fool she had a talent that she was very willing to expose and she was real successful that the whole world knows she drops rhymes to educate, motivate, and innovate I told her "the things you say is great and I can relate" I said "I'm kinda good at poetry and I got a love for words" she responded "really? then let your voice be heard" "I'm a little skeptical. I don't know about that." she said "You'll never know until you try as a matter of fact" revealing a message is the #1 objective always have a cognitive and logical perspective philosophy and creativity also plays a part and make sure everything you say come straight from the heart if not together we communicate the best way we can if I wanna hear her voice I listen to her on my walkman to receive pointers on how to bust raps and compose rhymes next thing I'm dropping verses for the first time 3rd verse: Some years passed and we continue to cross paths we still have our moments our little giggles and laughs but I noticed something different about her demeanor now she seems to be all about the Bentleys and Beamers emphasizing the jewels she's flashin', the money she's stashin' and keeping up with all the top notch trendy fashions her poetry has been on a decline if you got a hot beat and a catchy hook then you'll be just fine she influenced new artists to sound almost the same some music icons are dumbing down and that's truly a shame she says "going commercial is the way to get the big bills" evidently no one's acknowledging talent and skills she told me if I developed an image I'd get more mass appeal but I made a vow to myself to always stay true and real I like to convince her to do the same; don't be something she's not the chick I'm describing to y'all is hip-hop I had a crush on her...[x3]

damn yes my man I thoroughly enjoyed that. It wouldn't be biting his style anyway even if you were: it's clearly meant with love as a tribute to the original. The wordplay is very similar but also different enough that it's still got something noticeably different from you in it. Nice work.
