The ozone holes grow over the polar regions , not over a specific country, NZ happens to get affected by the Antarctic ozone hole. Pollution from various chemicals released anywhere in the world cause the holes. Chlorofluorocarbons used as propellants in aerosol cans and in refridgeration were the major contributors

Other things you'll also always find in NZ - sandflies and mosquitos. The sandflies down south will carry away small children and livestock. The mosquitos are tiny, but all carry tasers and a bad attitude, and they will fvck you up. More interesting flavours of potato chips/crisps. The US might have a dozen brands, but you can usually oly find 3-4 flavours. Opposite here. Half a dozen brands, but dozens of flavours and lots of odd seasonal flavours come out each year. Whomever thought 'lamington cake' was a good idea for a potato chip should be awarded a prize for creativity and then shot for crimes against taste. Same for breakfast cereals.

we use American mustard which I love for American foods and sausage sizzles. However the other mustard you are probably referring to is English mustard. I think many nz'ers traditionally don't use much sauce due to meat being so good and not wanting to hide the taste. With globalization and popular youtube channels like HotOnes sauces are becoming more and more popular.

The paul guy stated why our UV is worse. The 'hole' has lessened, but it'll take probably 100 years to properly recover? Third world countries are still using the old CFC's and in high fire risk in valuable equipment/ plant- military plant, aircraft etc, I think it's used as an extinguishant as when in the product, it's very efficient and so less compound is required. This year, the Tongan volcanic eruption has thinned the ozone and made quite a difference to our UV levels because you get sulphates and sulphides released and high up in the atmosphere, they chemically react and you lose free ozone (O3). They are not cfc's though and so the damage is not very long lasting.

The Yellow/American/Tasteless Mustard is common, but equally common is English Mustard and Dijon Mustards. Lots of others, but those would be the 3 most common across most of the country. You'll also find older people liking Coleman's Mustard in various baked things (especially savouries) but that's dying out beyond use in Devilled Eggs.

The English mustard is more of a tradition in NZ and used to be made at home with the powder back in the day. It is stronger and has much more of a "bite" to it than the American style. American mustard is very bland almost tasteless by comparison - not a fan of it.

Thin ozone here is mostly due to Mt Erebus in Antarctica spewing out ozone depleting volcanic gasses and the Polar Vortex which prevents new ozone from migrating to the area. So yes sunscreen is very necessary, it doesn't just burn fast it burns deep here.

New Zealand might only be the the 8th biggest _producer_ of milk, but it's the highest _exporter_ of milk worldwide, with exports in 2021 worth more than twice the combined second and third highest exporters, Germany and the US respectively. As with many other areas, New Zealand punches well above its weight. New Zealand also boasts the most golf courses per capita and has more Scottish piping bands per capita than Scotland.

Why Gas station pies? Try any Bakery for pies, numerous flavors and fillings, you might even find Cheese Rolls to try, ask for them, more common in the Southern part of the Mainland (the South Island). And you have to understand that New Zealand has only come out of the Dark Ages in 1984, yes that date was a change of Government and the repeal of many a regulatory requirements some for the better and others not so good,.

I have to say that watties products, as a more aware person than before , has far tooooo much sugar in ALL of it's products! (Except frozen vege.) The baked beans, sauces and so on and this is why I've gone off these NZ products Oak too. We used to get Whitlocks and their tomato cause was not the bright red dyed sauce, but probably much closer to the ketchup product? Alas, not made in wanganui for decades; a family company ,but now owned by a company based in Singapore and made in Australia-in puny bottles- no bulk tubs.. and sweet. Used to get piccadilly and soooo much more. Apple products used to taste of apple! Like this german apple pie flan I used to get from aldi in oz- taste! Now there and here, they're just congealed packets of snot. It really comes to blame the neoliberal economics and the political people that forced that upon us. Reagan, Thatcher, Douglas- whether he was told to do it, but it was his philosophy and alllll those others that still have that as the economic model- even the labour government - they're all neo liberal economists -the big corporate that destroys small business, allows for mergers/ takeovers global enterprises- shipping parts to make and products all over back and forth over the globe, gobbling up the world's finite resources in everything- more co2 release- going down the wormhole to oblivion. Really, this is what's happening! -The slash, down the rivers in the Hawkes Bay- that's what broke the bridges. Overseas companies with dubious reputations running the show. The slash took out those crops for a lot of it.

@@MorganMarieWolff The Thai sweet chilli, Sriracha, oyster sauce, soy sauce. Kewpie (Japanese) mayonnaise and Kewpie Roasted Sesame work as dipping sauces. However, most Lee Kum Kee sauces are for Cantonese cooking, not for dipping. Many English speakers get confused with dark soy sauce, which is thicker than the usual thinner soy sauce, which uses colouring and marination only. Lee Kum Kee is the largest Cantonese sauce maker in Hong Kong and Kewpie is the largest mayonnaise maker in Japan. You can find all of them at Asian supermarkets or in the international food section at mainstream New Zealand supermarkets. Lee Kum Kee has its own English website with Asian recipes in English.

@DomingoDeSantaClara
@DomingoDeSantaClara Год назад
I used to work in dairy, in what way is it bad? The only downside I see is the environmental cost but NZ does better than many countries in that regard and its certainly one of the most efficient and competitive markets in the world. Compare to the UK where taxpayers have to massively subsidise the entire ag sector just to stop it collapsing, the NZ dairy looks very good.
@TheMntnG
@TheMntnG Год назад
@@DomingoDeSantaClara I think we have different understandings of „good“. I have no idea about england, I‘m in europe. 1) NZ dairy destroys the environment. it‘s not just a bit bad, it‘s final destruction that can never be rebuilt. poisoned groundwater, eroded land. in europe, dairy has been done since millenia, the nature can cope. 2) european farmers are subsidised, the result of that is affordable healthy food for the poor masses. In NZ, produce is expensive so the poor eat shit and become obese and mentally ill 3) europe makes good cheese. NZ does expost the lowest value product (milk) instead of making something of higher value our of it. pure idiocy. and NZ cheese is just not good. european famers often dont own the land, therefore dont need loans and dont get rich and agriculture is not about money but feeding its own citizens. kiwi farmers are only about money, slaves to bank loans and only money on their minds. some get rich. that‘s not good!
@DomingoDeSantaClara
@DomingoDeSantaClara Год назад
@@TheMntnG although I can agree on some things, some of the things you point out are economic problems rather than farming issues. The government has plenty of opportunities to legislate to make food cheaper for NZ citizens, it not a fault of the industry. Re subsidies, it may ensure some products land on the shelf at a cheaper price, but people have paid towards those products regardless of buying them or not. I'm not sure how a cow in NZ is more polluting than a cow in the EU? NZ cows are on pasture all year round, EU cows spend half the year inside, using electricity, requiring diesel tractors to be constantly feeding out or cleaning up after them, along with the huge costs of growing, harvesting and storing all that food, and extra vet costs associated with being crowded together, and on concrete.
@RubyDoobieScoo
@RubyDoobieScoo Год назад
@@TheMntnG subsidising farmers doesn't save the public money, it just makes them wasteful with fertilisers. The issue is that our produce doesn't have competition in New Zealand, we're a captive market with no choice but to pay whatever supermarkets set prices at.
@RubyDoobieScoo
@RubyDoobieScoo Год назад
