This Common Loon (Gavia immer) was as interested in us as we were in him. He approached our boat, inspected us and swam around us while we took video of him. This loon footage was taken in Northern Maine within a few miles of the Canadian border. Common Loons dive under water and swim very fast to catch fish. They swallow fish whole. Baby Loons often ride on their mother's back until they learn to dive and catch their own food.

Be careful, loons will sometimes go after fishing lures in the water. If they get too close, keep your lures out of the water until they go away and never feed them as it makes them see fishing boats as sources of food.

I must say, loons look beautifully designed! Tight graphic patterns make them look intentional

Loons are always intriguing just because of their looks alone. Animals aren't your entertainment for making noises or whatever. Either you like them or you don't.
