My tool addiction started when I was about 12 years old and I'll be 65 this year. The first tool I bought was a Stanley hammer to go to work with my grandpa doing carpentry. Then it was auto mechanics ,boats,semi trucks,heavy equipment dozers,scrapers,loaders,cranes It all came to a screeching halt 2 years ago with a couple strokes. That old Stanley hammer will always be my best tool because of the time I had with grandpa. I had 4 big old tool boxes if only there was a support group for tool addiction LOL Take care.

I have been very happy with the hard handle screwdrivers, very nicely made. I am not sure if they will be available for too much longer though. The handles were made by one company and I'm almost positive the shanks were made by Pratt-Read. Ideal industries recently kind of shut down P-R, I don't know all the details but I'm told theyre basically keeping production exclusive to Ideal screwdrivers. I don't know if they're going to end all contract production, or keep ongoing contracts and just stop accepting new contracts.
@TylerSnyder305
@TylerSnyder305 2 года назад
@@shawnwest3779 They made the hard handled Craftsman professional drivers, the precision drivers, and some of the standard Acetate handles. The recent acetate handle Channellock drivers are P-R, so are the very nice WRIGHT tool drivers, and the Greenlee drivers that look like KLEIN copies. if IDEAL really does tie P-R down to only their screwdrivers that's gonna really be a major blow

Those Tekton screwdrivers are made by Wilde tool in Kansas. Wilde makes tools that are rebranded by other companies such as the Hypertough prybars they sell at Walmart. They used to make a lot of tools for Sears. They're good, solid, affordable American made tools.
@TylerSnyder305
@TylerSnyder305 2 года назад
@@mugga5590 Yes those WILDE handle prybars are great, when I saw the HT's at Walmart I recognized them as Wilde and bought every size. They make 'em for HT, even for Lang who does tons of contract production themselves. There have even been truck brands sourcing them. These screwdrivers have two sources according to Tekton, one for the shanks and another for the handles. The shanks are a dead ringer for P-R, and based on the handle composition I'm fairly confident that WILDE is the source but have no confirmation of this. WILDE doesn't make screwdrivers, they've had acetate handled drivers made by P-R, and the wood handled drivers made by GRACE.

But I’ve just picked the Williams set up for £50, about $70. I’m pretty happy about that. I have set of Wera’s which are great, but I need some with a hex shank that I can keep in the workshop. The way I look at it is, if these are the same tool as one that costs four times the price it’s going to be hard to find a better value tool elsewhere without taking a leap of faith about the quality. This feels like a no brainer. Thanks for the video and sharing the knowledge.

Great info. I wish the Phillip’s heads were different colors and the size was stamped on the end when looking from above. Someone could use a marker or colored tape for the same purpose

I am a huge fan of the multi-bit racheting screw drivers. I can have one driver in my pocket and have as many as 15 different bits .... However, there are times that quick change multi-bit driver just doesn't fit! The good ol' basic screwdrivers still have a place for me.. however, I also need a complete set of torx screw drivers. As for the cat... For sure! Barn cats are required. I'm just not a cat person.. just never had one growing up, so it's taken some getting used to.

Snap On does still have the hard handles available also. I’m glad they are offering them again. I too have the Williams screw drivers also. A great set.

I have never seen a snapon tool so I cant comment on "the fizz factor" but a flat blade screwdriver that is tapered and has a straight ground bit from a brand like snapon come on that thing is nothing more than a paint can opener. The most important thing with flatblades is that its hollow ground so it doesn't cam out and that it doesn't have the "ears" that stops you from screwing in a hole (no pun intended). However the hex on the shank is nice and hard handles like these are SO MUCH BETTER because they never get gross and nasty to grab. Take care everyone!

Thank you for this. The snapon hard handles were always a favorite. When I worked on the road years ago I knew we bought an “off brand” and couldn’t remember the name.

You gave a very detailed explanation of screwdrivers the only thing that I seen that you left off that a lot of people overlook is that almost all set which I have five different complete tool truck sets almost all of them have the smallest standard screwdriver is a cabinet screwdriver. Don’t believe me look at the ends.

Is the Robertson screw still not available in the USA? It was a Canadian invention, and I think we all know its a superior fastener to the Philips

You're right about having a cat. We had an outdoor cat, my avocado tree would give us lots of avocados. But a coyote got our cat which opened our avocados to these squirrels. Cats are great. Almost a good as a dog! Almost...

Just ordered a set of the Williams 3/8 metric sockets. They also appear to be made in the same factory as the snap ons at a fraction of the cost. Just have to be sure that the model number starts with letters followed by numbers. Those are the USA made sets. The ones that have just numerical model numbers are Taiwanese made.

Once in a while Snap-on brings that old style handle back for a holiday promotion or something like that. They are tough to come by, but do still exist.

I'm excited for if/when you do locking pliers. The Malco Eagle Grips are phenomenal. There's next to no slop in the fit, and the finish looks too nice to use. Plus they are made in USA and grip tighter than vice grips

Fun fact. Snap-on tools are marked with a specific symbol for the year of manufacture. The diamond on the screwdriver is special because it is there hundredth anniversary.
