I had a friend who was pregnant, and during a doctor visit, her husband (English is not his first language) asked the doctor when he was going to "seduce" his wife. She thought it was hilarious, and was laughing too hard to explain that he meant "induce", as in... induce labor. The doctor was rather shocked, and completely unsure how to answer that question.

6:00 I grew up in The South in the US (Georgia). I was raised with the custom of waiting to eat until your host begins and usually until those who are older than you begin also. So this feels very normal to me! Good to know since some cultures wait for their guests to eat first.
@miss2o6

I'm so glad you mentioned the buddhism gesture when trying to show respect in a foreign country..its so cringing when people do that and its not even your culture. It comes off as disrespectful actually since they are not taking the time to learn your culture or ask about it before assuming that every culture has the same ways.
@Johanneslol11
@Johanneslol11 5 лет назад
:) most of these are common here in the netherlands to! Though there was one very funny thing. In our culture, we always wait for the guest to start eating, regardless of age. xD so we laughed a lot when my girlfriend came here and we ate with my parents. She was waiting for them to start as they are older and they were waiting for here to start as she was our guest.... xD :) My girlfriend did teach me other things i should be careful about, but lucky here friends were all okay with just calling there first name. :) Also getting each other drinks and so is normal. :) ( I am from the netherlands xD in case someone is curious.

@Johanneslol11

:D hehe glad to hear you liked the story. For us it is normal to prepare the drinks and so to if the other arranges chopsticks and so. :) However refiling drinks without asking is strange here. We will always ask, it is same like not finishing your plate or drink is seen as rude.. :P so in korea i had the opposite as mentioned here. Here finishing drink is polite, and they kept refilling it xD. If you ever visit the netherlands tell me, I would love to show you around together with me girlfriend. ( If she already moved then). From the other side if i go to korea next year , i would love to go to one of the places you mentioned in the last video! :) It would be fun if you joined to, together with my girlfriend! :) If you are willing to, just give a scream!

I’m very much appreciated and thankful that you put this to our attention, you guys should be respectful of people like me who refuses to drink alcohol. Because alcohol is one of the most common issues today that separates families and ruins bridges between people. I personally turned on alcohol because it’s against my rule of staying fit and staying happy with my physique. But on the other hand my grandfather and mother had a bad reputation of losing their temper and taking anger out on people while obsessing over alcohol.

The drink thing sounds like when I was trying to explain to my foreign friend about coffee and my grandmother. I told him to except the coffee but don’t drink it if he didn’t want it. He kept drinking it and then eventually started pouring it into my cup, and my grandma kept filling his cup because it was low. I told them just except it and don’t drink it. It was a little funny because he was getting frustrated but didn’t want to say anything to my very elderly grandmother. My grandmother scolded me later because I let his cup get empty too many times and didn’t fill it. lol

that hand gesture is from our culture...India... but in modern way we just shake hands these days.... but to show respect in family or to very close elder person we usually touch their feet with our both hands and then touch on our head... this is a traditional Indian way to show respect and get blessings from elders... i don't recommend someone to do that unless you highly respect someone or any elder person is close to you or your family... the best way to show respect is that hand gesture...

A really enjoyable video: No unnecessary political correctness, good lighting, strong - even somewhat wild ;-) - facial expressions, radiant eyes... and a strong but soft voice (new mic, amp, mixer...?)

The hand gesture you did, in India we do this hand gesture to show respect to the older person after saying Namaste.

Such a good video. I am planning on living in Seoul. But before I go am learning the language, and studying the culture. I think it’s respectful, and I’d like to at least have some basic knowledge.

I know whenever I'm out eating with family or friends I won't eat or order unless the other person is ready. I know some Americans don't do this but in my family we do. We just see it as rude to start eating without the other person.
