Common Rough Water Boating Mistakes Most All Anglers Make… 

I was on a charter fishing trip on lake Eire, we were in a thirty foot sport fisher boat with dual V8 engines. A big blow suddenly happened and captain said let’s go, about half way back we saw a bass boat fighting it’s way in, the captain stayed with him just in case, he made it in and kissed the boat ramp!!! Our captain of charter boat said that guy new what he was doing👍

Would love to be in the boat with you and being schooled on rough water. I’ve fished Erie out of Pa.and had my share or should I say scare! Of 3 to 4 footers don’t like it! Scares the shit of of me but I could handle it. You have to respect it because it could take your life at any given moment.

You are a hundred percent correct. And have been caught on Lake Erie a number of times and the name fits her well. They seem to blow up from nowhere. I've a belief that every boater needs a Coast Guard safety coarse. It's saved my skin several times.

Ive been in it ! You learn real fast or your swimming. Randy, i was peir fishing on lake Huron on a night with waves breaking over the jetty . Good 6-8 footers. And out of the darkness came this deep v i o . He set himself up to surf/slide right in the river mouth just pretty as you please. But you could see his white knuckles from shore. That guy was under control but his passengers were throwing chunks over the side as they went by. The driver knew what he was doing. Yep i was amazed at how slow he was putting along. Then when he was lined up with the harbor he punched it and rode the wave right in. Honestly it was a beautiful thing to see.

I grew up on the SE shore of Lake Erie in small boats & fishing smaller lakes in NE Ohio & agree with everything Randy says here. Spot on!

Before power steering a hot foot was safer. Hitting waves and fighting the torque of the motor you needed to have two hands on the wheel.

Hi Randy, as usual you’re correct ! I live Mass. grow up on the ocean with 13 ft Whaler. Lakes here are a 1000 acres. I fish Champlain, it be a nightmare ! She can a mean lady ! 3 footers and more can be a horror show ! You’re lucky if you get out of it with an achy body ! Thanks Randy !

Disagree with your hot foot comment. Had a hot foot and a foot trim. Ran in lake huron and could keep both hands on the wheel and had total control and no problem making short bursts if speed!

I grew up Fishing Lake Ontario. If the wind changed Direction and came out of the east or west, you would be in trouble. I always wear my life vest when I'm out fishing. It feels weird if I'm not wearing it.

Wow Randy I find what you are saying about hot foot totally wrong I find it much more safe to run a hot foot and keep both hands on the wheel Iam 72 yrs old and been running bass boats for many years love your videos and I say it is a preference thing about the hot foot just like it’s a preference thing about the live scope it might work for you but not for me keep the videos coming Randy
