i've watched just about every tictac video on youtube, and this is the ONLY one that mentions that little push you give towards the outside with your front foot...i think this is something most skaters do instinctively, and they don't think to actually explain it. my tictacs are still terrible, but this one adjustment has at least made me start moving forward!
@@stilelits Thanks for taking the time to let me know! Sometimes the small details make a huge difference. I’m glad you found it helpful. Keep working at them and you’ll have them soon enough!
Great tutorial. Another good reason to learn them is when you're in your stance ready for the trick, but you want more speed and don't want to step off to push, haha. I've actually been doing a couple to push myself to go just a bit faster when doing flat ground tricks lately.
Best tic tac video I've seen so far! I think it looks like Aaron prepares the forward momentum after the first turn. I think that will help me a lot. If I lean forward when the board is pointing forward, I think it will just create the wrong sensation. By turning the skateboard a bit to the side and then leaning towards where you want to go, I think you get the motion Aaron mentioned. I'll try it out later today 😀
Hey thanks for posting up! Welcome to skating and to the channel! Super glad you found this helpful. I’m here to help along your journey if you need it! We’re all in this together!
Hi, I wanted to thank you, I’ve been skating for a while and am in the process of getting better and comfortable riding and popping switch and your beginner videos have been very helpful.
Hey Victor! Thank you for taking the time to check out the channel and let me know about it. I love hearing that these videos are actually helpful to others. Sounds like you’re making great progress so keep up the hard work! Be sure to have fun, and let me know if you get stuck on anything! Cheers!
Im low on time for skating now I have a new born and been a wet winter here in New Zealand, I needed this as I can only tic-tac short distances but good to know I was on the right track! Thank you
You’re welcome! Congrats on the new born. That awesome! Time definitely gets more limited with work and family, but it’s till fun to get out when you can. Take care my friend!
Wish that I have a dog but just adding to the tip, always look where you want to go and when you learn how to tik tack and the kickturn, you can bring it on the ramps as well
(Before the video) I can kick turn in place I got it down all the way but every time I try to do it while riding on flat ground I can’t do it… I either don’t get the board off the ground or do it very little. (After video) this makes me want to go to the skate park at 1 in the morning to practice because I see what I’m doing wrong. Thank you.
Hey Stormie! I’m glad I could help! Picking up skating quickly is all about taking baby steps and nailing one thing down at a time! Lol at the 1am…I suggest more like 8am. Not many skaters seem to be early risers so the parks at least by me are usually pretty vacant until about 9:30ish am.
Thank you for this video!!! I'm still a pretty new skater and finally moved past the "going backwards" and "not moving at all" stages but I still couldn't build momentum properly and it was driving me nuts because I couldn't figure out why xD', Now it finally all makes sense! Thank you! ୧(^ 〰 ^)୨
You’re welcome! Glad I could help make things click for you. You’ll find out soon enough that the more mobile you get, the more fun skating becomes! Keep up the good work! 👊
Glad I could help! This is definitely a common issue. Actually just posted a new video using one of my subscribers clips as an example and how to fix it. If you need any extra help, check it out and let me know what you think: Why Your Tic Tacs Suck! Beginner Skateboard Trick Tutorial ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PrHqbuzMvBY.html
Absolutely! Make sure it’s just a slight tilt forward and not all of your weight. With time you’ll find the right balance for you, paired with the pushing away from your body using the front foot/ wheels. It’s weird at first but the more you practice the more comfortable it becomes. Skating is weird in the sense that you’ll struggle with something for a long time and then one day it’ll randomly click. Trial and error!
You’re welcome! Thanks for letting me know! I’d have to look at your footing, but first I’d say try to make sure you keep at least the ball of your foot on the front. Also maybe make sure you’re keeping a little more weight on it. Really it’s just going to come with time and practice now that you have a basic understanding of how it works. You’ve got this! 🙌
@@SkatingwithAaron great thanks. also thanks for the quick reply. We tightened my trucks so i'm trying to get used to that. I will keep practicing! 😊💪🛹
@@towerg5178 You’re welcome! Playing with the trucks is a good place to start as well. Finding your sweet spot will make all the difference in your board control!
Excellent video!! I also find there is a little bit of knee action. Bend just a little slightly forward at the knee while moving the board side and side, and off you go.
For those the beginners or who are plan to start skating... make sure to practise pushing 1st...master the pushing and then go for tic tac..master the tic tac and then try kick turn.....the mistake beginners always made is very rush to learn the ollie....some of them just stuck on ollie.... just chill.....learn slowly 😊
💯! I say it all the time. Get your foundation right first and then the rest will come a little easier. Skating will always be challenging, but those who end up quitting quickly are the ones who go straight to tricks without properly learning to balance, push, etc. Skating is way too much fun to miss out on. Take the time and do it right! 👊
Hey thanks! I really appreciate the kind words! Stick with it and you’re going to fall in love with skating. Its extremely rewarding for numerous reasons. Let me know if I can help in any way!
Tips that help me a lot, thanks tic tac at least moving me, how can i show u my problem with my ollie ? It' s about my tail foot, and i wanna know if have u ever got troubles with dogs?, lol maybe the sound of the skate on the concrete. Thanks.
Hi. I'm 42yo trying to learn skateboarding with my 7yo kid from scratch. I can't for the life of me manage to tic-tac. I do not move at all. Only if I stand on incline. %-) I watched both your vids and trying to do what you suggested. But to no avail. But I still trying and hope to master it eventually. 😅
Hey thanks for the comment! That’s fantastic y’all are learning together! I can’t wait for my son to get a little older to really start learning as well. I get this a lot though. Try to film yourself so you can see what you’re actually doing vs what you think you’re doing. You do need to lean forward a little to get some weight on the front of your board. Could be something as simple as that. I couldn’t say for sure without seeing what you’re actually doing. You’re welcome to send me a clip on Instagram and I’ll be happy to take a look!
@@SkatingwithAaron hi. Thanks for comment. I did just that: recorded my attempt at tic-tac and sent it to you on insta. Replaced my cruiser with classic popsicle board in process. That helped a bit. But not very much.
@@sergeya Thanks again for sending the video for me to review! You’re doing great and I have no doubt you’ll be moving onto other things soon enough! I’ll keep you posted if I’m able to use your film for a vid to help others on the channel! 👊
@@SkatingwithAaron thanks for your kind words and for your efforts in making educational videos. Those videos help so much! I'll be grinding with tic-tacs and all other basic stuff meanwhile 😀
@@SkatingwithAaron Haha , you can always try by choosing trips to coastal cities. In general, skateboarders have no problem surfing. See you on the waves soon
Hi! This got me back to trying tictacs again. But still i find myself going backwards or falling on my face leaning forward as my board still goes backwards! I then tried to go straight forward without turning by pumping with the front foot. That gives some momentum. I'm currently trying to add rotating to it but it's hard to sync the both movements. Am I on a right track at all with this at all?
Glad this helped get you motivated to try again! It is tough at first and definitely takes some practice with coordinating the movements. If you’re comfortable just standing in your board and pushing around then you should be able to tic tac. Just take it one step at a time. Try pushing on the tail and moving to one side only. Then bring it back to the middle and the to the other side. Do these as separate motions until you can consistently do them. Then try to link it together by making larger movements and trying to not stop in the middle. You can do this! Again it’ll just take some time and practice!
@@5berryjojo Glad to hear you were able to figure it out. Try to make sure you’re keeping your body weight pretty even over both feet so not to weight down your nose or tail.
@@SkatingwithAaron but i am not able to gain enough speed to move after tictacing. I move while i am tictacing but when I stop it i also stop can you solve my problem
Aaron that's everything about skateboarding, and we can see when u do the video with that childrens, thanks Aaron, i Wonder why a pinneaple? I eat pinneaple almost four day in a week, lol good video, information.
Thank you for the kind words! 🙏 So I’ve been doing a pineapple in my videos since day 1 of the channel for a planned giveaway when I hit my first 1k subs. I kept doing it because I think it’s fun and my viewers seem to enjoy it. I chose the pineapple for my logo and videos because it’s a symbol of welcoming and friendship. I want my viewers to feel welcome to the family! It’s also my favorite fruit. Plus the Dole plantain calls it’s home on the island I was born on, so it just felt right to me!
Great question! Comes down to personal preference. If you’re a brand new skater there with balance issues then you can start off tighter and loosen up as you get comfortable. That’s what worked for me.
It's not all about leaning forward. Lean forward too much and you'll make it even harder to get your momentum going. Most important part is to make sure you're pushing out/ thrusting off the front wheels when you go to initiate the move to the opposite side. Use your shoulders/ arms to help lead the change of direction. As for forward lean, you want your head/ chest to around the heel of your front foot. Anymore than that is probably too much. It's a little different for everyone so keep playing around with different positions. You'll get it my friend, just have to stay at it!
@@busterwolf8901 If you can, film yourself from a couple different angles and watch it in slow motion. See what your body is actually doing. Hands down the best way to find and fix what’s happening or not happening!
I’d have to see it to say what you’re doing wrong. Maybe try to slow down your tic tacs to help get the initial push forward, and the pickup speed if you want.
Are you regular or goofy? I’m guessing regular and your right is in front of you (your chest), and not behind you. It’s common for people to struggle going to their backside. Make sure you’re turning your head and shoulders in the direction you want to go. Use your arms to help point in the direction you want to turn. Hope this helps!
@@SkatingwithAaronyup I'm a regular but when i want to go the left my body just instinctively wants to go the right because i can't see what's on the left
You’re welcome! While I do wish I had the skill he does, I do not wish to be anything like him. Just gotta be me! I definitely appreciate the support and you checking out the channel!
