Just FYI...there's a national cell phone outage on major carriers this morning, but the Rapid Radios are working perfectly.
@tfeltmat2903
@tfeltmat2903 6 месяцев назад
I went to their Facebook page, and they blocked me when I mentioned the radios come with SIM cards with $50 preloaded to pay for the service for one year. After that first year, you have to pay $50 per radio per year to keep them running. So their service is not 100% free, and it's dishonest to advertise that they are.
@HighlandOutdoorGear
@HighlandOutdoorGear 6 месяцев назад
That's exactly what we mentioned in the video. It's clearly mentioned on their website as well.
@iPigee
@iPigee 6 месяцев назад
Clearly! 😂 no it isn’t. Fraud. And to use the hacking and unreliability of cell service only to note it depends on cell service and DOES have boundaries. This is a scam.
@HighlandOutdoorGear

Well we're assuming people have a basic understanding of LTE/cellular signal service. Probably shouldn't assume. There's a few with no common sense apparently.

@@HighlandOutdoorGear I call bullcrap on you. THIS is what's on the Rapid Radios website: How are you able to do this without a monthly fee? We are the ONLY company in the USA to do this. Most of our competitors charge between $20-$30/mo per radio. We charge NOTHING! We have partnered with major data networks to provide us access to our infrastructure at an omnibus level - which allows us to make it so there is no monthly service fees for you - ever! We know the "ever" part is a lie. There won't "ever" be a monthly service because you're charged up front for the SIM card. That's a LIE of omission.
@tfeltmat2903
@tfeltmat2903 6 месяцев назад
@@HighlandOutdoorGear oh, the "sOrRy yOu dOn'T uNdErStAnD hOw iT wErKs" argument - that's everyone's favorite. I understand that you cannot get onto a network without paying for access. Companies that own the networks charge a minimum fee for access. In order for you to get YOUR customers onto a network, the owner of that network must get paid - either in advance or pay as you go.

It is a Nextel. Honestly miss it. Wish cell phones had that ability.
@HighlandOutdoorGear

Similar to Nextel. I picked them up mainly to take out to places where I don't want to risk losing or damaging a $1000 smartphone. They are pretty handy and work well. Not a SHTF radio, but pretty cool for other applications.

I bought some to try. I will give an honest review.. I purchased these because it's like cell service. In the mountains where I frequent, we have excellent cell service, but with all the trees a lot of radios have a hard time reaching out through the area. Yes I could simply use my cell phone, but we use the map and gps a lot marking locations and charging batteries on phones kinda suck. If our communication device goes dead, we still have the phone for emergency. They say it will last 4 days.. that we shall see, but I could somewhat believe it being it doesn't have screens and memory or tracking to use the battery. I do think they are overpriced.

Yes this is definitely deceiving. I'm an Engineer in Telecom for over 20 years so I came to see HOW it was going to be possible for free nationwide. Change the add it's not in good faith.
@HighlandOutdoorGear
@HighlandOutdoorGear 6 месяцев назад
It's not an ad, it's a review. Their claim is no subscription fees, which is accurate. You get a year of service with purchase and if you like them, you can purchase an additional year of coverage for $50 when that runs out. As soon as we find a radio that works anywhere in the world, has infinite battery life that never has to be charged, and is given away completely free with absolutely no costs whatsoever, we'll definitely do a video on that one too.👍
@tfeltmat2903
@tfeltmat2903 6 месяцев назад
Agreed. The advert needs to change. But the typical response on social media has been for Rapid Radios to BLOCK anyone who points out the truth. At this point "Highland Outdoor Gear" is simply pimping for Rapid Radios, and drawing a distinction without a difference.
@tfeltmat2903
@tfeltmat2903 6 месяцев назад
@@HighlandOutdoorGear You're 100% defensive here. You know they're being dishonest. There's the SPIRIT of the advert and the LETTER of the advert. You need BOTH and you're simply pointing to the letter and then issuing a puerile sarcastic remark that literally no one finds amusing.

Something still doesn’t smell right with these radios. They say they are based in The USA but that advertisement audio was completely AI generated. They also advertise on one platform that the radios don’t have subscription fees yet you need to re-up your SIM for $50 a year?
@HighlandOutdoorGear
@HighlandOutdoorGear 6 месяцев назад
Not an ad. Its legit. They are based in Michigan. We just tested the radios, liked them, so recommended them. And in our opinion, $50 for an entire year is pretty good.

So if SHTF your coverage stops. What good are they? Use ham radios people.@@HighlandOutdoorGear
@tfeltmat2903
@tfeltmat2903 6 месяцев назад
@@HighlandOutdoorGear First of all, I'm 100% certain the radios are made in China. That's why they avoid stating that fact, and instead say they're "programmed in Michigan" and shipped from there. Who the Hell cares? Second, $50 a year is comparatively a good deal, but they should SAY that instead of printing lies of omission.
@HighlandOutdoorGear

HAM radio is absolutely a must for SHTF scenario. Totally agree. These are a pretty cool, easy to use two-way communication system in the meantime, though. Just for comms while traveling make them a worth the cost, IMO.

@spsjason2

They are definitely not made for everyone. I will say they do work where cell phone service is very spotty, because it takes little to no bandwidth to use them. Also for people such as myself that want to contact several employees at once It's great for that also you're not afraid of dropping a $1,500 cell phone into the mud while working.
@HighlandOutdoorGear
@HighlandOutdoorGear 4 месяца назад
There are a couple of advantages. You can communicate with a group simultaneously with a push of a button. They are far less expensive than an iPhone or Samsung, so if you lose or damage it, you're not out $800-$1,000. And they're seem to work better in areas with limited signal where a cell phone may not pick up. Not for everyone, but they work well for those who use them.
