I think Slicey is done. I've watched him for a couple of years and liked his videos. I think he plateaued, he knew it, and he was just going through the motions. I don't know all of the particulars, but there seems to be enough going on that it appears that he has some major character flaws rather than just making a few mistakes. Now I'll go back to looking for good knife videos.
@@LeftyEDC I'm in New Orleans and there is not one knife store in all of New Orleans. I have to drive 63 miles to Baton Rouge to find a knife store. There is one kitchen knife place, and a few sporting good and army surplus stores that have a couple of knives but I am the EDC community in New Orleans. 😢
Growing up in kitchens, 41 years and still going, I love Steve he's real not fake, I get his talk, and understand where he is coming from. He's AWESOME BALLS! As far as SD, once he makes it right then forgiveness can happen.
Considering that he has already apologized for most of the issues and said he is going to make it right…then there is no question that it happened. I don’t believe that any grown man has that many things that need to be repaired and didn’t know what he was doing.

I appreciate your take on this. I got burned by Bryan, but I simply unsubscribed and moved on with my life. There are plenty of great channels out there like yours is/was, so I can get my knife reviews from people that don’t cause drama. I don’t have a channel or a platform (and personally don’t want one) to raise awareness to the shady things someone is doing in the community, so I appreciate someone like Super Steel Steve or OCD-4-EDC that can point out a situation and let some people avoid getting taken advantage of. I’ve enjoyed your content and wish you the best of luck with whatever your next path is after the door is closed to this channel.
If he had come out and said he screwed up and not blamed it on his unborn child and the loss of his mom and even his daughter leaving for college. If he had just said “hey I screwed up I’m going to make it right” I might have believed him but he decided to make excuses.

I didn't like slicey. I un followed him long ago. The Knife community is ignorant overall. Its what happens when so many people are involved in any large community. Its sad to see this happen and the fanboys reactions who pushed it off. He's not apart of my community and never will. I can't stand listening to his opinions. So I don't really care what he does. I just hope people wake up.

Thanks for sharing, had no idea this was happening nor did I watch SD anymore. I only watched him about a few months into the pandemic. He had expensive tastes in knives which I do not so I found people like you and JB that were more down to earth kind of guys and gave me a honest vibe. Maybe he can pursue his stand up. I hear he calls himself a comedian? At least he has a fall back career?

Good to hear from you again JT! I have enjoyed Sliceys channel for a long time now. He started up shortly after I got into the hobby. It was neat to see the channel grow. I’m kind of in the same camp you are on this. I like to think the best of people and I’m hoping this is just a case of someone who got overwhelmed and couldn’t fulfill his obligations. I think it is obvious he could have done a better job at managing things but as you said I’m just hoping that he can make things right and move forward. Thanks for the video!

I meet both you and slicey dicey together at blade show. You both were very nice to me. I have purchased knives from both of you and had good experiences with you each. You have been exceptionally kind to me, friendly and warm. I know I am a complete stranger but you have treated me as if we were long time friends and welcomed me into the knife community and I sincerely appreciate it. I have been proud of the community and how giving and kind it is. Thank you for keeping the positivity.

Yeah, that's true. I was pretty little when i watched him so i remember him as a bad ass. Agitator might be the better word, so maybe not the best comparison but the idea of it is still relevant.

I'll see you a Claude Lemieux and raise you a Darcy Tucker; good analogy! Sadly, Bryan's actions seem to indicate a pattern of behavior stretched over multiple years. How could a knife maker/company ever see fit to send him items again, after he has sold things he was supposed to review and pass along or use in a GAW? Also, the luxury watch that showed up immediately after his truck marathon fundraiser ended, was extremely suspect and sketchy.
I really am not trying to investigate all the details, but it does seem that there's potentially more to this than anyone was ever aware. Not good to hear.
I am forever soured on “the knife community” because of the SD SCANDAL and seeing others in the “community” supporting him and rationalizing his behavior.

I had him with me on a podcast for a while. As i said before, Steve's heart is always in the right place... maybe not always his brain.... lol but i love the guy. Slicey and i are acquaintances and we interacted before. I haven't had him wrong me so i can't comment that way. Shit happens and i think its good for him to make good with all the ppl that have been wronged. I don't think kicking him out of the community is our choice to make ... its a platform of freedom... like our great country. I'm just surprised to hear anyone say hes the best reviewer, personally i find him bland... lol I think that in the end, we should all mind our own business. we are all adults, why can't we just act like it. I obviously don’t know the details of the Slicey drama, but the stuff of people buying knives from him and not getting them, is pretty crappy. Especially when I’ve considered buying from him. Glad I didn’t.

That was a great video. I agree the people that were wronged badly need to be made whole. How that can happen with some of the things I don't know. Would have loved to have seen you be around longer as you were so close to 10K. I look forward to the last couple videos with a mix of feelings would love to see more content. Yet a bit of sadness as I know there are only a couple more and then you will be gone. I understand you want to free up the time for family and that is how it should be. It’s hard for me to trust Slicey’s story, especially since it came out right after he was called out. I enjoyed watching his video for years, but this felt like a break up for me
Man me and my buddy were huge slicey fans and really enjoyed his channel, then he ghosted us for what ever reason, but happily I was able to contact him and he did exactly what he said he would do make our transaction complete, I hope he keeps his channel as I agree he was a get influencer, and hopefully we can get on down the road I got my S35vn resilience spyderco knife and he apologized!
I have three thoughts, one: well said. Two: once this crusade is over can we go after the scalpers next? Three: honestly, sending money to a youtuber, a private person without any verification of legitimacy other than the number of views and followers, is financially irresponsible, so people took a risk and losing money is unfortunately a risk of sending random people money.
So I have been out of touch with the community for about a year just because it became an addiction and I was buying to much for no reason . So can anyone link to the videos we're I can get caught up . I saw Paddy's video and this one and now wanna know what's happened and this seems the second battle iv seen SSS start . I know I bought a lot of items off Slicey and the prices and shipping were all great were they fake knives or something or what's happened? I guess I did have to pester him a little once to finally ship but he was a busy man and sent tracking all the time. I just wanna know what happened.

Think about what u see on Slicey Ds channel.....more and more very expressive knives on a weekly basis. Hinderers, Pro techs, and many others. Where's the money coming from?? These purchases add up ....huge. I make 110k a yr and have a mortgage , two kids with one in university plus more expensive habits. I can't afford $700 plus knives so how does a guy who has a RU-vid channel and basically nothing else afford this?? Well now we know what I expected.
If I gave him thousand+ dollars for a website, he would get sued, and he would have criminal charges against him for fraud. That's not careless or busy, it's criminal. I will sell knives to people who ask or just to three guys I know who are in the business. Other than that, I refuse to put my faith in my generation, with whom the guys I grew up with were lying l,.violent, thieves, none of which had any morals even the "good" ones. It took me almost 30 years to not look at all people like they were out to get me. That's my own problem, at age 36 I've learned to deal with people diff. I never lived like trash, but I grew up poor, started working in a garage at 13, saved money, paid for my own education. Got a hard but good job etc. But it wasn't without major trials bc of liars, thieves and borderline sociopaths that I tolerated to just get along before measures had to be taken . The stuff Brian has done are things children do, or criminals, which one is he? I don't know. But I know one thing, they would eat him alive "inside". Maybe he should do a comedy podcast if he's so into it, where he wouldn't be dealing with merchandise, bc he's never going to live that down as far as a reputation goes, that's just a fact, this the internet, nothing goes away. And those companies that are sending him free knives to review under the condition of they were to be giveaways, aren't going to let him off lightly, they have high dollar legit layers on retainer, and will put him in a court just for fun, and to make a point to the rest of the knife RU-vid community. There will be repercussions with knives being sent out to RU-vidrs bc of what HE did. He f'd up. It is what it is, in the end he hurt himself the most, but he also made companies think twice about slinging knives for free to tubers, and he stole from people who work for a living. Hopefully he'll learn from this and not slip into deep depression and be a man about it. I've gone through most of my life with serious disorders that affected my mood and the way my brain processes information and that cause severe chronic pain. If I could change how I react to disappointment, failure, hatred from others, he can. But as far as knife world goes, he's toast, at least with guys like me, grew up in the country, but I'm not a hick, I'm not dumb, I worked with my hands my whole life but I've got a bachelor's of science degree in Govt/Religion, and I don't like being played one bit bc I'll give most people a chance or two. Times are changing in this world, and guys that do what Brian did are less and less tolerate by people like me. I've had my life shatteres by dishonest people at work, and in my personal life for things they did and shucked the blame on me. I didn't give up or pout, I moved on to the next thing, why they stayed the same person or self destructed. Let's hope for Brian's and his wife and future child's sake he not only learns from this but changes and not make things even worse.
I am just a guy who likes to watch videos about knives. I appreciate different channels for different reasons. Sometimes I like channels because they are solid and right to the point. Sometimes I like channels that have some comedy involved. As a viewer I can just sit back and watch. Somethings I have noticed is that the knife community is a really tight group. In all groups there is always going to be a drama queen. Someone who actually feeds off the attention. This is true in all social groups. I believe that some channels get so many subscribers that their head swells just a little bit and they take a big head view over the rest of the channels. When I see this happening I turn away from those channels. I have actually seen a channel big head make fun of a subscriber in a way that was inappropriate. I find that to be absolutely ridiculous and it really shows the big head syndrome. This is not appropriate in any society. If you have a subscriber that you don’t agree with just don’t answer the comments and definitely don’t bring it up during a broadcast. There are just some people who can’t help themselves. There are some other channels that R gray in their comedy and don’t alienate anyone whatsoever. I appreciate those channels the most and I share their videos. I really appreciate the knowledge I gain from all channels. They help me so much when I am making a decision to purchase a product. The ones that are tasteful get the most attention. However there are still those that have so many subscribers that their head gets in the way. I understand that you tubers do this for some sort of incentive whether it be monetary or just for fun. I don’t really agree with RU-vidrs selling products directly from their channels. And someways I feel that they have a lot more opportunity to have access to knives the common person does not. I understand there is a pass around group and some channels receive knives from their viewers for a review. I don’t have a problem with that. Well I do have a problem with his that RU-vidrs don’t have to go through normal channels to gain access to products the common person does not have access to. This is a unfair advantage in the market. Especially on knives that are so scarce that there is nothing available.. I am not the only viewer that has came to this conclusion. Especially when a knife reviewer sells a product he received directly from the company. This is a huge problem. I am totally turned off by this and I view these channels no more. On the other hand I don’t have a problem worth knife reviewer‘s selling knives on consignment from other viewers. I find that to be appropriate in some ways.. Innoway I’m just a knife guy that likes to watch knife reviews and I wish we could just got back to talking about blades and handles with a little bit of comedy for entertainment. It’s up to us to steer clear of the drama queen and the big head channel.
@@JTsKnifeLife accountability fine but questioning if someone can redeem themselves or if they have a place in the community is another thing (not saying those things are coming from you) but they are being said and it’s unacceptable. People make mistakes people are lazy people lose their way. If that is an acceptable excuse to pile on to someone by all means have at it as several people have. But I live my life with more room for myself and others to be human.
I think in all walks of life stuff like that happens though. Everyone needs to decide for themselves how they handle it. Some people will never trust him again and want him to be gone forever. I won't blame them for that, or even for encouraging that, even if I don't agree.

Really thoughtful video. My only issue is describing Slicey as a talented knife reviewer. I thought it was always pretty clear that he was a shill trying to get free stuff because he literally never actually said anything bad about any knife. I think he's actually one of the worst reviewers and offers virtually no useful insight or information.
Well, I understand what you mean, and I also notice when channels that grt stuff for free have an overwhelming amount of positive reviews. It does raise questions. But I always respected his ability to carry on his narrative in one take while being extremely coherent to the point of things almost seeming scripted (which i don't think they were).
@@bloodacre5901 Yep, that's it. And I sort of alluded to it in general, but for a while I haven't been a guy who watches a ton of other knife reviewers. I usually only watch when it's a knife that really interests me, and so I usually expect a positive review. My opinion on Slicey's talent is my own, but me knowledge on how good his channel actually is day in and day out is not really there, since I don't watch all thay much anymore.
With my knife budget Chinese knives are what I pretty much own. . I have some domestic and from other countries by purchase and giveaways. I accepted what SSS said as opinion.
