From the USA🇺🇸 to Singapore 🇸🇬 to South Africa🇿🇦...I think 💭 I've found my subject for my doctoral thesis. ✅ 🙂 Recapturing communities. Economic development without gentrification ✅
Great program! I became interested in CLTs while researching dispossession in Central America and India about 5 years ago. The earliest CLTs were established by African Americans facing massive dispossession after the Civil War. It was inspiring, and one of the few hopeful movements I can discern in this finance/fascist driven economy. I'm wondering if any of your participants have heard about Community Land Reform in Scotland. The SNP government encouraged local councils to purchase landed estates as these were coming up for sale (Scotland had the highest inequality in land ownership in the world!). (incidentally, or perhaps not) Karl Marx detailed the Scottish highland enclosures, which continued throughout the 19th century. This form of CLT also has small-scale productive enterprises to finance the upkeep and expansion of CLTs in Scotland. They have all been very successful. I believe this is the way to go; and it also promises to inject some socialism, plus social justice into the model of housing provision. Keep up the great work!!!😍
Community land trust + special taxing district (to set up black businesses) + business loans guaranteed by the state/municipality. That would be a great start for reparations. Do NOT include Native Indians into the discussion - they already got free land, exclusive casino rights, tax exemption and billions for all sorts of things. Blacks have NEVER gotten a single penny.
