Just realized that Chang was so intense with roleplaying cuz he’s always roleplaying a character in his mind lol

I like how at the start of the episode the study group is basically pretending to be invested in the game, but when Pierce "ruins" it, they actually do become invested.

I play D&D weekly and I can say with absolute certainty that this is a very accurate depiction of how all D&D scenarios end up when people have become drunk and destructive.

And a great part, they were suppose to make it in the episode that Pierce was a D&D expert, having been friends with Gary Gygax when he was younger. Thus the reason he is the one who actually knows what he's doing.

so.. guys, this episode just got removed from netflix because of Chang's black face. i know it is a sensitive matter, but the show clearly play it out as Chang's ignorance and even have Shirley point it out as a hate crime. or else, i wish netflix could find a way to edit out only the offensive part so they can keep streaming this ep. since i really love the character moments and the story element about bullying and depression 😣

This bit bugs me. Pierce made (presumably) a strength check to see if he takes Neil's sword, then Chang tries to take it back. Then Pierce butts in trying to attack Chang and Abed.... resolves the attack before Chang's strength check? The question of initiative order is irrelevant too. Either they weren't using it because they weren't already in combat and the actions should have occurred in the order the players spoke, or they were in initiative order and Pierce was at the bottom (because he joined the encounter late), in which case he used his turn getting the sword and everyone else (except Jeff who is stupidly waiting for 14 turns) should have had a turn before Pierce got to attack Chang. And if they weren't in initiative order, even if Pierce's attack somehow superseded Chang's action, they should have all rolled initiative as his declaration would have put them in combat. The whole premise of this episode is based on bad DMing at best. Abed can't just ignore Chang. Also playing with crit effect tables that include instant death with a group of total newbies. Bad form there too. Should have been the perfect moment to introduce them to death saving throws.
