I know how you feel. I've been a HUGE Selena fan for going on 24 years, and she's pretty much all I listen to. I can't imagine my life without her music in it.
@Cj Well, according to AB, they're going to be releasing some new DVD's this year. I've already got 2 of the recently - released ones: "Johnny Canales Presenta Selena", and "Selena y Los Dinos Live 1987". Supposedly, the '94 Astrodome concert is going to be released, as well.
The saddest most heartbreaking event that robbed us all of her innocent beauty, style, grace, and talent. I know she is sitting in heaven smiling down at us all !
@@deborahdefelice8692 No doubt. And, despite Selena's great talent, and the incredible things she achieved through it, she was so humble that you KNOW she has to be looking down saying "All that fuss over ME"? That's just the way she was. There are some who overestimate their own talent, but Selena always seemed to almost downplay hers. She didn't feel the need to go around with that "Do you know who I am" type of attitude that's so prevalent among the famous these days, because she let her work speak FOR her, as all TRUE artists do, and a lot of the "artists" out there today could take a lesson from Selena on how to conduct themselves with class and humility. If some of THEM can win multiple Grammys at a time, Selena would need a whole other HOUSE for the number SHE'D have undoubtedly won by now. She showed 'em ALL how it's done! The fact that she continues to win awards, outsell current artists, and that her fan base continues to grow at an incredible rate, over a half a century after her passing - something that's virtually unheard of for ANY famous person, and particularly musical artists, about whom the public can be very fickle - says all you need to know about how loved and admired Selena continues to be, and that she'll remain in the hearts and minds of millions FOREVER. She deserves nothing less.
As a older white woman in Texas I am the person he is speaking of I didn’t know about Selena until her death but now I am almost obsessed about her now.
Just want to add that I'm sure most Selena fans know but Billboard Magazine named her the greatest Female Latin singer of all time, what an honor, group of us have started a Petition to get her into the R&R HOF, she so deserves it, Vive Selena!
As far as I'M concerned, Selena is the greatest artist of all time, period. She had a combination of talent, charisma and stylistic versatility that was, and has since remained, without eaual. One of her many incredible achievements is being the only female musical artist in history to ever occupy 5 spots on the charts simultaneously, which also means that she achieved something that no other woman in the history of the WORLD ever achieved. Pretty heavy when you think about it THAT way, isn't it? How many other people can claim to be the only man or woman is the history of the WORLD who ever achieved a certain thing? Amazing!
How true. Tejano has never been resurrected since Selena passed away. She totally transformed the genre and it’ll never be the same again. Aside from being a trailblazer as an artist, Selena was such a humble and kind soul. I think even more than missing the singer, we just miss her warmth and her relatability. Her death has left us with a void that can never be filled. As the years pass by I find that even though I’m so sad about her absence; I’d much rather celebrate the 23 years she was with us. And I feel that is what she would want. 💜
So true. For me, and I'm sure for many others, it's not just Selena's music that's the reason why I love and respect her so much. It's also the kind, humble person that she was, in general. While so many others have been negatively affected by fame, it only seemed to enhance Selena's already sweet nature in the form of using it to do positive things. A lot of the artists out there today could take a lesson from Selena on how to conduct themselves with class and humility. She was the real deal, both professionally and personally.
I’ve always said when Selena died she took the tejano genre with her. That’s not me trying to downplay all the other great artist that came after her or that remained in the genre but it was never the same.
When she passed away, she became a legend but Tejano Music just faded. It's no longer as it was in the 90's and 80's when it was growing. Now when people hear about Tejano music they only think Selena.
@@Guzluvtaco8 Well, it's not really surprising. By 1995, Selena was basically to Tejano music what The Beatles were to Rock in 1964. Her name is pretty much synonymous with the genre.
selena had a heart of gold, was a friend 2 many.. she is so missed.. I know her family and also close friends.. there will never be another selena.. so many things she still wanted to do.. her and chris were gonna start a family but after her cross over tour was done.. who's was to start couple months after her passing..
There's so much to wonder about. Where would Selena be living now? How many children would she have? How many more albums would she have recorded, and what songs would be on them? How many more Grammys would she have won? (Quite a few, no doubt). What other artists would she have worked with? There's so much we'll never know.
@@rosstrovato9535 i know it sucks. Like he said she's frozen in time. I hate the way she died. Just imagining what was going through her head is heart breaking..
Ross Trovato - She would be 50 years old on April 16 2021. Her and Chris would have had a child/children - and grandchildren probably by now . Her and Chris got married April 2 1992 - so. April 2 2021 is their 29th year wedding anniversary. They were married 3 years when she died in March 31 1995 . Her funeral was April 3 1995 (one day after her 3rd anniversary)
I'm British who became heavily involved in Salsa dance in 2003 onwards. I had never heard of Selena until the Netflix Series in 2020. I'm now hooked, seeing how bright a star she was and still is to this day. Love her music and the beautiful love story she had with Chris 💖🌹 I also understand why she was/is so influential as we had/have the same principle with Princess Diana. Both hugely bright stars in their short lives, still loved and emulated today as their love for people made them one of us. No surprise Diana was known as "the people's Princess" as Selena was the "Artist of the People". We constantly wonder what Diana would have gone on to do/achieve in life, exactly like Selena. They were both rising into mega stardom when their lives were tragically cut short. Diana's life ended in '97 at the age of 36 (I'm 2 hours older than her so it hit me hard, feeling like my unofficial twin had died), 2 years after Selena's life ended at the tender age of 23. Both had lived extraordinary lives, touching the hearts and souls of millions around the world. It does make you contemplate on the idea that such bright sparks and mesmerising humans are only ever meant to have short lives, considering all their achievements in their younger years. Perhaps, as both could have eclipsed everyone and everything in their chosen careers/lives, it was simply too much for humans to handle; never meant to grace the earth into old age. Just some thoughts .... Either way, they are both much loved, cherished and very much kept alive, forever young in the lives they touched, forever changed. I'm grateful they both lived, leaving the legacies they did 🙏 💕
Great interview. I didn'tgrow up in the usa nor any of the spanish speaking countries so I "discovered" selena when i began to learn Spanish. My teacher told me about her and I went online and played a few of her songs and then more and more. Then id watch the interviewers with her both in English and Spanish. Her person, life, career and music have really touched me. Such a beautiful person. I really mean it - her death was a tragedy and a giant loss to music.
When I watch her performance at the Astrodome, it fills me with joy that she had that before she was killed. That she was able to have that experience with her fans. She deserved so much more. Her performance at the Astrodome was AMAZING. That beast Yolanda makes me sick.
I never thought of it that way... It was like she was able to see the stages she was gonna be on way before she was even known in the mainstream. Crazy how things happened. Tbh she had everything going for herself without the American mainstream success. Endorsements, clothing line, music, etc. She was everything that these huge artist are but by her own machine. 💪🏾
She would've been a Multi Billionaire Mogul by 2015. Of course up till now as well. The night at the Astrodome was like a Coronation. She was already the Queen, but THAT NIGHT, she came in on that horse and carriage, and she went up there on her throne, and put that bad boy ON!!! She was about a year away from just entering her early Musical Prime. 2 Decades of DOMINANCE was on the way💯
I grew up in California and unfortunately I only got to know Selena after her death. I remember when every Spanish network had the tributes for her and show some of her performances like “Johnny Canales” or “The Acapulco” concert and could take my eyes off of her. I was so into not only her music, but her performances. I said this before her music was something I’ve never heard before, especially growing up in a Hispanic household and from there I remember all the cds my mother used to have of her and just continually listening her songs in the car radio all the time. Then growing up and just learning more about her, I’m glad she was one of those artists who was not only humble but proud of who she was and where she come from. She was not just only an icon because of her music, but for what she stood for the Latin community and that’s why she will never be forgotten and that’s is what most people don’t understand why people are still talking about her.
Such a true god gifted natural beautiful woman period. I was 4 years old when she passed and I’m a big fan of her music. From the videos I watched of her, she was so down to earth and I shed a tear when I listen to her music or any of her videos. Rest In Peace to the beautiful Selena Long live the tejano legend
I’ve watched many documentaries and people tell the story of Selena and I have to say the way this man imported it was on another level of fantastic. He seems to have great insight and his story seems very authentic and real
This is by far one of the better interviews on Selena posthumously that I’ve discovered. By far! He hits the right tone and spirit that accentuates why Selena’s life and achievements mattered, not only to Texans but to all Americans.
I always wondered when seeing this guy in other Selena documentaries and knew he had a lot to says about Selena, when he would once and for all be interviewed entirely. I enjoyed the interview. Thank to the interviewer for letting him talks his heart out .
María Celeste is very rude. She should have never named her book with the Word "secret". The is no secret un Selena's story. María Celeste do not care when she offends people
I love how much he knew about regional music genres in Texas. He truly cared not just about Selena the performer, but also her as a human being. I always wonder what Selena would have done once she left her father's management.
Never fear. All TRUE fans can distinguish lies from the truth when it comes to our beloved Selena. Satan LOST on 3/31/95, and the lies of his servant in some book aren't going to change that. Mr. Potaski knows the REAL Selena, a woman of sterling character who deserves our respect and admiration. Anyone who believes the garbage in Maria Celeste's book - which came directly from the mouth of Selena's murderer - isn't worthy of being called a fan.
@@rosstrovato9535 Not true....I'm one of the biggest Selena fans there is....but I still believe what Maria Celeste Arraras said about Selena's affair with the doctor from Mexico. I do think that it is true
@@mariolopez3728 I'll never believe it. Selena was a woman who was wise beyond her years - someone who knew what she wanted - and she fought WAY to hard to be with Chris to just throw it away once they were finally married. Besides, she was a very moral person, so I can't believe she'd have an extra - marital affair. That just wasn't her.
@@rosstrovato9535 Believe me, this is something that I wish was not true. At first when I heard the rumors, I was like, "No way!" But after hearing Maria Celeste Arrarras' evidence I then believed that Selena did have an affair with the doctor. Arrarras is a award winning and well respected journalist and news reporter. But she told real stories to the public....she would never put out scandalous or fake stories just for the heck of it. If so, this would tarnish and ruin her reputation. If she put this out there to the public it's because it was true. Selena's father prohibited her husband Chris from writing a book about Selena....and he was his son in law! After knowing that Arrarras was starting to do interviews and write a book about Selena's infidelity, why didn't he take her to court or sue her for libel and slander? I'm thinking that deep down Abraham knows the truth but as a father, he doesn't want to admit it and as Selena's manager, he knows that it would really damage her legacy. So what does he do? He just says that Arrarras is a liar and for us not to believe her. As for the doctor....he knew that the public would never believe about him and Selena being together. He would have been hated and vilified! So why did he come out and say it?....because it was true! Abraham until this day has also never sued the doctor for libel and slander. He also just said that he's a liar and for the public not to believe him. Why would a big time reporter and a well known surgeon damage their reputation of putting this out there if it wasn't true? And both of them are smart....they know how bad the blowback would be from the public. But they still did so. Why? Because it was the truth. As I said before, I am a great fan of Selena and all of her music. I met her once at a concert and she was so down to earth even though she was this huge Tejano superstar. I wish the rumors were not true. But after hearing Arrarras evidence and the doctor speak of Selena....the truth is that the affair did happen. Selena while she was a big role model to Latinos, especially young girls....she was not perfect. None of us are! Why don't the fans just admit it and face the truth? Selena eloped and married Chris because they were in love. But they were also very young. A few years after being married, problems started to surface. What marriages doesn't? My theory is that Chris being so young didn't understand Selena....but the doctor being much older, very wise and with his experience did manage to allure Selena. There have been many women who have had affairs with older men because their inexperienced and immature husbands did not understand them. The doctor having gotten to know Selena while doing some work on her....took great advantage of this and the affair commenced. There are rumors that stated that Selena was going to divorce Chris, leave her music career and run away with the doctor. That I do not believe! Selena loved to sing and still loved Chris....so I don't think that would have happened. But an affair....yes I do believe it. Selena was no angel....but people still think she is and they want to have this certain image of her. Unfortunately the evidence is out there and it is unavoidable. Judge for yourselves.
I’m so happy to hear this man’s sharing a significant portion of history on “Selena’s” Journey. Her husband Chris had also confirmed that Selena’s goal and dream was to create her own fashion designs. Her Amazing Music is absolutely timeless but her father wanted desperately that she fulfill the dreams that he hadn’t and as her loyalty to obligations to her family, it must of been hard. Beautiful Artist gone far too soon. Over time her untimely death hit not only her family members hard but an entire era of fans. 🙇🏻♀️🙏🏽🏆🕊
The first time I ever sang a song and played a walkman, it was Selena. She was amazing. The love that pours out for her is so unique because it is feedback to match her. I will never forget going to see her film and watching people exit the theater as we waited to go in for our screening, crying and genuinely heartbroken. She was beautiful in every sense of the word.
It's taken me 21 years (my whole life) to really appreciate how much of a one woman revolution Selena was. She was changing the game in so many ways, from music to fashion to business deals. Yet, she never had an ego, and was always beyond willing to share the spotlight with other women in Tejano music. She broke barriers for women in Tejano and Latin music, blowing through them with a smile like they didn't even exist. She was so much more courageous and determined than I think people give her credit for. I'll always love and admire her for the incredible person she was. I wish she had lived past 23; now that I'm almost there myself, it feels far too soon to go, especially with so many dreams and goals ahead of her. I wish she'd gotten to see her English crossover success, and gotten to branch out and do all kinds of things! I'm glad her legacy is strong, and the love of fans (like me) is so strong, but for me, it's easy to see why. She had all the "it" factors of a star, yet she stayed humble and was always kind to her fans. Any time I see an interview or a concert, it feels like I knew her, like she was a close friend. She was truly one of a kind. She deserves to be remembered and talked about💕.
From everything I've seen about Selena, I've never seen something so beautiful like this interview. It doesn't even sound like an interview but instead Joe is telling us his stories he got to live and experience with her before and after her passing. He's so professional and knowledgeable and love how he expressed himself about her. The first time I saw him was on that vh1 show behind the music. Thank you for this great interview 🙏!
Yup and if selena didnt cried on jose behar about her english album id doubt she' made it ..and I'm glad she made it..even though its unfinished because of what happened to her..atleast she had left something to her fans..
Or they felt her impact there's no doubt she would've made it big in the us market and broke many record and her fans who bought her ticket to see her after she passed away flew miles away from Their homes to see her she was loved by many people
I find this strange though. I know this was before the Latin explosion in the late 90’s, but if Gloria Estefan was considered a successful crossover, why the hell did they think Selena couldn’t? She was more ‘hip’ than Gloria, and I could fall in love and dreaming of you proved that she could’ve blended right in with the contemporary 90’s R&B scene- Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey etc.
Selena called me for my 7th birthday in early 1986, she was the coolest and very down to earth I felt so comfortable with her, they were dirt poor at the time however all it took was one conversation with Selena to know that she was destined to be a star.
@@jamesr.g.2320 Yeah I had numerous interactions with Law enforcement in 1997 as a direct result of this conversation onetime I even had to go down to the station
I think selena is the only international artist that really got my attention with..not only because she's very talented but because of her great personality.you know even tho she's gone for almost 2 decades already she still remained relevant and well talked about singer and her spirit lives on..she will always be timeless... like she said " THE GOAL IS NOT TO LIVE FOREVER BUT TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT WILL" and she made it with alot of hardwork, persistence and determination and of course with the help of her family she will forever be missed..🙏🙏🙏🙏
Her death is haunting and heartbreaking . . . even now. What she accomplished in 23 short years is nothing short of breathtaking! A true entrepreneur/visionary/talent . . . and she seemed like such a sweet soul!
Dear Mr. Patoski- thank you much for writing that book. More over- thank you for representing my culture in the fashion the way you have. You are one cooool white man! White on the outside- Latin heart on the inside- love it! Continue being blessed as you are- you and your familia. :)
This man telling this story about Miss Selena ; he refers to his heart how he met and saw Miss Selena . He tells the truth about everything he knew . It's not hear say or what he thought it was but what he saw first hand an upfront story .
I’m so looking forward to the Grammys this Sunday, May 14 when she will be getting her lifetime achievement award. She so deserves it. Gone but never ever forgotten. Great interview. You can totally tell that he’s just speaking from his heart.

As her father he can control whatever he wants to. That’s why Selena’s legacy hasn’t been stained with rumors and myths because no one but her inner circle has controled the narrative 🤷🏽♂️
@@ericacruz8261 But he did interview music producers who worked with her, the fashion designer she worked with, childhood friends and teachers of Selena. I learned a lot more about Selena's childhood from that book than I did from the series.

They recently re - introduced a bill in the Texas House of Representatives to make her birthday an official state holiday in Texas. Us fans celebrate it every year, anyway, so they might just as well make it official. "SELENA DAY"! 👍👍
Zero Zero - Very nice . I am from. Canada 🇨🇦, and I didn’t know that much about about her music. I watched the movie then and heard her English album when it came out.
I too . I cannot get enough of seeing , and watching Miss Selena ? She is the Queen amongst all queens . I wish she was still here in the flesh ; but I can still remember her through her music and others writing in through RU-vid to see how she effected others too . There hasn't been any other singer and performer that has had this big of an impact on me in all my years . God bless her husband Chris and her parents and siblings !

Screw the series people need to read his book, Chris's book and watch Selena Remebered with Edward James Olmos. Those are the best resources for Selena. Como La Flor was the first book I owned on Selena back in 96. I loved that book and re-read over and over again. Very well written. Thank you Mr. Patoski. ❤
He really does understand what happened The phenomenon that tejano music was and her role and steady rise to significance and musical artistry she played in it .
Nick fully understands the Mexican/Anglo South Texas culture. He did a phenomenal job of explaining Selena’s legacy not just as a Tejano artist but the special and graceful woman she was. She was one in a million in the Tejano genre and sadly that will NEVER be filled for a very long time. I bought the book when it came out and his research and text was truly on point. I’m elated he pushed for her amazing story to come out mainstream especially putting her on the Texas Monthly cover. I truly believe her star would have been much bigger than Gloria Estefan and Estefan’s star ⭐️ is extremely huge. It’s truly an enormous loss to music in general. 🎼🎤❤️
I appreciate his knowledge on the south and the descriptive detail of what exactly bi-ethnic and tri-ethnic is regarding Southern states in America. I also appreciate him standing up for Selena and representing for her many talents and endless awards list at a time her own home state was not. Unprecedented and admirable, definitely ahead of his time supporting the incomparable Selena🌹 Siempre Selena 👑
I do wish Selena started off in the English/mainstream/R&B industry first, she was influenced heavily by the black disco era artists of the 70’s eg. Donna summers, Gloria Gaynor etc. However, I think starting in her cultural Tejano industry was a good idea like her dad said, it endeared her to her people a lot more- and it allowed her to have a strong Mexican American fan base that would hopefully make a more loyal foundation base. Her father probably had concerns that it would be much harder to stand out as a beginner in the mainstream industry. She changed the Tejano scene. Dreaming of you album really proved that she could’ve been on par with other 90’s R&B acts like Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton, even Whitney Houston I would say. Cut down in her prime, it will always be a tragedy :(
@htownlithium You’ve literally just shown your ignorance. You’re wrong, if you’re weirdly anti black/prejudiced or something, just say so lmfaooo. For your information, Selena’s love for Janet Jackson and R&B in general has been said in her own words. Selena was American by nationality.. I don’t know why that’s an issue with you. She was BICULTURAL. So it’s understandable that she first listened and enjoyed mainstream R&B music. A.B has said in a video that they started of doing the country music genre in the beginning too. They literally had to learn Spanish lmfaooo, they didn’t want to do Tejano music at first either. You’ve got really bad basic comprehension, I did not say she started in R&B.. I said ‘I wish’ she did. We all know she started of doing Tejano like her father advised her to. At least get the facts right if you’re going to come under here with an argumentative tone. Lastly it’s not a race narrative you weirdo, it’s the cultural background, that is literally what shapes music from different genres?? www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.harpersbazaar.com/culture/film-tv/amp34921118/selena-latinx-representation-influence-from-black-culture/ this article sums up how Selena’s bicultural background influenced her music style. FYI it’s written by a Latina. Also please don’t assume my racial identity, this is only a RU-vid comment.
@@sashayeller9633 yeah I know, actually it was Tejano regional, then she slowly became more well known in the mainstream Latin pop industry by the time she released Amor prohibido. A.B’s production of the album sounded ‘less Tejano’ - more Cumbia, reggae style etc. and she was starting to appeal to the Latinos in Miami, Puerto Rican’s and Salvador. It’s just that the Dreaming of you album really showed her potential to make beautiful R&B music/ English adult contemporary, it’s a shame she never got to.
@@HeatherLynseyMusic I feel you! I didn’t exist whilst she was on this earth too. She was just about to mark her presence as a superstar in the Anglo world but a monster took that chance away from her. Thank you sir for bringing this story to light. My oldest brother worked as a janitor at the Padre Staples Mall in Corpus and Selena would always say hi to him when she saw him and knew him on a first name basis.
Wow, major props to you sir for your passion and dedication to the the story of Selena. And also for caring enough to tell the story of my culture and it's prevalence to Texas. ❤️❤️❤️
It's so hypocritical of AB to say Joe is just trying to make money off of Selena, when that's all AB has done for the last 40 plus years. Sadly Selena was their "cash cow". She made them (her family) a ton of money and she's still making them money, because AB will milk it for as long as he can.
Awesome job and I'm ashamed to confess that I never heard about Selena until her death in 95 and so many years later I confess to be a great fan of Selena and doing research and watching the series and videos of her I will say that she is the greatest Latina singer of all time and to me personally she is the most beautiful woman I ever seen. R.i.p Selena and much love and respect.❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏

Interesting how Joe Nick Patoski said the night of Selena's death, he wanted to contact Selena's father but he was going to sit it out that Saturday to give Mr Q time to grieve. Until his colleague told him Mr Q was already out there giving interviews. That says a lot about Mr. Q.
I really like this writer, especially calling out “daddy dearest”. After watching a legit interview with Chris (who is divorced, btw) I found him to be the most humble, beautiful, kind soul and saw what Selena did. He is such a good man, and the total opposite of her money hungry Dad - and sister for that matter. I find her family’s behavior repulsive, proving they are nothing but bullies and Chris was the target. If you can find the interview with Chris, please watch. He tells you what’s up. If you read his book you would know there are two sides to every story, and I’ll always be on Chris’s side. ❤️
id like to watch a movie on selena written by this man,, the angle of texas sub-cultures and the admiration he has for Selena would make a Great Film..
The year I came to the states from China, when Selena was killed by Yolanda1995. Though I learned that much later years of it, but when I watched some of her show on the video, I just fell in love with her right away! In every video I saw, she's always laughing, which like the most brightest sunshine with such super talent on singing and designing! I guess she's too pure to trust that wrong woman as her "best friend" who took her life 😡. But she's always lived in people's heart who loves her songs forever, and in peace. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Selena's Family moved to slow with Yolanda. They gave her enough time to think about what she did to Selena. They should have called the Cops and pressed charges, and Selena would have been here with us today. So sad.
I’m honestly insanely proud that Selena’s legacy has lasted this long. Hopefully it continues to rise. Regardless of how some people feel about her family , they have done such a great job at keeping Selena’s legacy strictly about her music and persona. There hasn’t been a singer that has had such an impact on some many people not just Latinos. Whether you knew about her before or after she passed , it doesn’t matter. 26 years later we’re still here.
I was like 8 years old when she passed. Actually i didn’t know who selena was but honestly i used to sing her song “dreaming of you” i and my sister used to sing that song in karaoke we dont even had an idea, that singer of that song “selena” was gone for many years😭😭😭 we just found out last 2019. I’ve been searching the official video of “dreaming of you” or live as i know that singer was still alive🥺 but can’t find it everywhere so I started to research about the singer “selena” and im so shocked and sad😭 after that i have been fascinated about her and watching all her videos with her family and her husband “chris” although i don’t understand spanish, i still love her songs. I even watched selena movie with jalo💔😭😭😭 now i can say, i am one of her fans from asian country😍😭😭
Thankyou Nick i really enjoyed your interview, it was so accurate, truthful, sincere and a beautiful tribute to a beautiful young lady..whose life was like you said, Frozen in time..thankyou sir..God bless you...❤❤
Timing is everything, but I think her releasing an English album in the midst of her surgence in the Latin market would had been a mistake. It wasn’t because her record label didn’t think she couldn’t, nobody believed more in her than Jose Behar did. By 1992-1994 Selena was probably the biggest Latin female artist of the time, she was in too high demand. There was no time for her to do all she was doing and record an English album. The time she started recording it was perfect, 1995 would had been her year, sadly that didn’t happen but I have no doubt in my mind that Selena was going to be bigger than the stratosphere.
@htownlithium we can agree to disagree but she wasn’t ready. Plus for her to record an English album before fully breaking into mainstream Latino market again would had been pointless. You have to look at it from a business point of view. It was smart to build her fanbase and let her become a household name and then go off and crossover. When Selena signed with EMI as much as she wanted to record in English I believed EMI played it smart. Not many people outside of Texas and Mexico(depending where) knew who Selena was during that time. I honestly believe 95 was the perfect year to do so... but sadly it didn’t happen.
People that are only known in Texas and Mexico don’t have the chart topping success she did. She was known in California, Florida, Arizona, NM, Colorado, NY.....please get your facts straight. For God’s sake, Siempre en Domingo took her to El Salvador as a headliner due to her popularity. Already had shows lined up in Argentina, Paraguay, etc.
@@thundererswrath2185 get my facts straight ? Pls don’t ever try to play me when I probably know more about Selena than you do. I’m speaking on the late 80s before Selena was signed to EMI, she wasn’t known too much outside of Texas and some parts of Mexico. All that you mentioned happened after Selena blew up which was around 1992/1993...
Salena Is Angel on Earth And In Heaven We Will All Be Rejoined Together Singing and Dancing On Earth As In Heaven Death Is Celebrating Real Life. Salena You Shine
I've never seen a white man so passionate about hispanic americans. This has touched me so much . He was mesmerized with Selena . Bless his soul. I am so happy he is multi cultural and sees humans as humans. Thank you for posting this .
We will always love her even tho some were not born yet to witness her in person it was just something about her that drew us all in may she Rest In Peace :/
Wonderful interview. Love this so much! Love Selena forever as well. She was an angel taken from us too soon in such a tragic and unfair way. We miss her and always will.
It makes you feel a sense of pride knowing that a Hispanic woman represented all of the Hispanic women who struggled to get respect as a musician and working woman. I made music my profession as a professional orchestra director and playing with the mariachis. I even played with a group that accompanied Little Joe. He didn’t know a song so they asked me to sing it and the audience yelled out; “ Otra! Otra!” They wanted me to sing another, but he told me not to sing anymore because he didn’t want me to steal his thunder. Being a female you just didn’t get respect like they give males. Selena was true talent! I listen to her voice and it amazes me when I hear some of her songs. She took the challenge and conquered many obstacles in the industry and deserves the all the accolades.
