Thank you Sam for posting and making this video. I’m seriously about considering. Sorry I can’t speak properly today lol I am seriously considering purchasing this product. It looks awesome this handheld OCR magnifier.
We tested one today. The "arm" is an excellent feature. It allows me to view parts of a document by moving the document as opposed to moving the Optelec. This is a great convenience. I does indeed display text on a black background with yellow letters and numbers. This is crucial since that's all I can see. Magnification, which is an issue on my Optelec 5 because it displays too large, have been solved by the O10. Simply zooming OUT with 2 fingers makes text smaller, which is also crucial to me. I tested the speaking feature and I'm unsure of its usefulness, but may buy that version anyway, hoping I can get used to it. We're thinking seriously about purchasing, hope to decide soon since they're back ordered. Stay tuned.
Having all those manuals totally cracks me up! I still don’t know why OVR kept talking me out of a device like this when it’s clearly something I would use. Anyway, thanks for showing us! Very helpful device if you can afford one.
I've had several Optelecs in the past and might consider this one. As I have RP, I have no need for magnification but I have a desperate need for contrast. Pros and cons. Pro: The arm is helpful. I no longer have to slide the device over the book, which may not be flat. Pro: Larger screen provides me a better chance that I have found the text I'm looking for. Pro: Black background white or yellow text. I wish you would have demonstrated them. This might have convinced me to buy. Pro: Speech capability, might be useful especially if I can slow it down. Con: Touch screen controls. I can't see them. Good thing to power button is a button. Con: Manuals. I can't see them. Honestly, did you think I'd be able to read any of the literature. "Setup" is a Catch-22. Con: Magnification: TOO LARGE, WAY TOO LARGE. Anything over size 10 font is WAY TOO BIG. Can you magnify down?
Thanks for the review. When you said it is multi-purpose I was hoping it would have a forward facing camera as well to help with grooming. It really doesn't do much that can't be done with an iPad or Android tablet for much less money.
thanks so much for this video. I am trying to find a good portable CCTV that can serve as a desktop unit as well and is good for riding under and so far it looks like this is the best option
@@theblindlife I will have a look at it. I tried to contact my local distributor for the compact 10 and have gotten no response back from them at all. Even if I decide to go with the clover book I hope it's not the same distributor. That could be a real pain.
I lost it when I saw all the manuals. The irony. 😂 I would love to have somerhing like this in my daily life though! Maybe if it becomes more affordable.
Sam another great video. What a awesome product. I go to the mailbox waiting for the glasses, looking forward for the arrival! Thanks for sharing. Take care, be well. 😎🔓TBP
Found your channel after talking to an Optelec rep. Excited to watch some of your videos. I have been legally blind since 2017 and still struggle at times with accepting it.
I don't think I would buy this because it has no voice over or talk back type feature for navigating the screen. I am also left handed so there is that.
Do you know of something similar with physical buttons? I have a friend looking for something like this, but she will eventually lose her eyesight & the touch screen interface wouldn't work for ucr effectively once her vision is gone.
Yeah, multipurpose is ok, but I just want a CCTV that's not huge and that's all I need. I have an Optilec CCTV from 2001 that is the old CRT style. When things are multi-purpose is just keeps the price high.
Hey Sam, Would you comment on the Mircast function? Can I only use a MS Windows adapter with a PC to get what is on the magnifier to the TV? I have a MAC.
Hey Sam, one more thing, if you didn’t happen to see my video, I am doing the self-promotional project again this year. If you would like to submit a video, it would be awesome to promote your channel and I’m sure everyone would love to see you
Uff I don’t know. I really don’t like any of these video magnifiers. They all have some flaws. Is there one digital magnifying Gadget that makes it easier to read big books? I don’t want to read newspapers
It does what a $100 tablet can do, and costs $1295! Sad. This is why I stopped watching these videos. Seems these corporations want to take advantage of us more than help us. Just my .02. I'd get an Android tablet, and magnifier app.
A tablet cannot do what this does if you have extremely low vision. Now clearly if you are barely borderline legally blind then maybe you can suffice with just a tablet but if your vision is more severely diminished then it does not take the place of this type of device
