Small setups like this with no pressure is the biggest tip for anyone wanting to get into this. Don't worry about tons and tons of gear or software. Grab some drums, and a couple synth voices and just have FUN. Get lost in it.
This! The best stuff comes from what I know best. If I’m in the DAW I always reach for a synth plugin and it’s not familiar and I just end up using a preset which changes the direction of my original idea. Limitations breed creativity - everyone knows that there are two camps. I fell into the less is more camp a long time ago.
I know this was made several years ago now, but this is a nugget of gold. I have a good size complicated music making setup and sometimes end up with option paralysis or only learning to use gear in limited ways, rather than learning to understand instruments capability on a deeper level. I just purchased a Circuit tracks and the Drumbrute Impact to setup a separate mini set-up to break up the redundancy of my usual approach to music making. I especially loved that you use the drum track on the tracks to use as a sidechain even though the volume was at zero. This level of understanding the instruments in front of you allows to be creative in how you accomplish a musical idea. Great stuff as always, I love the content on this channel!
Ricky, your Compact Creations idea was a game changer for me in my music production journey. It helped me to stop overthinking the process and inspired me to actually play music. Thank you, Ricky! Love you!
I saw your brain sensing the twin peaks vibe and I thought “is he about to realize that sounds just like that one patch I hope he does” love the vids! 💖
Oh man, love the CC series! Great seeing you on the new Circuit (I get the whole ‘at work’ feels tho!) Would be cool to see you use tracks /w it’s cv out syncd to modular.
What ever happened to the word inexpensive? Cheap Is a negative word but everyone uses to describe something low cost when the word used should be inexpensive. Now back to the music…
Hey love to see this. I appreciate your disclaimer of working at novation. I barely feel like you are trying to sell anything in your videos for novation. Really natural and a good time. I have been loving my circuit tracks to death so I'm hyped to see you just mess around with it. Always fun watching you just hang out and make a tune.
Was in a record shop (Release the Groove in SoHo, London) in the late 90s and it was being played and some guy came off the street and shouted “Go” right in time with the music. For me though it’s Twin Peaks first then Moby.
It's funny the Twin Peaks music is some of my "Go to" stuff to play if there's ever a piano or keyboard open for play. Definitely a generation gap btw those who recognize Badalamente's iconic soundtrack synths haha
Rewatching bc just can’t get enough. I also realized learning Laura’s theme and several other themes by ear gorged my original childhood connection to keys, synths, and soundtrack music in general . Nice eerie house vibes Ricky !
Oh man that bassline is sick AF. Nearly blew my head off through my 'phones :O great stuff! Gotta love the peeps rocking small rigs - a groovebox and a couple of synth voices and it's lit.....big up to you and Trovarsi, man
@@RickyTinez Ha, I was the punter in a record store in SoHo on a trip to London and they were playing Go and some dude poked his head in off the street and shouted "Go" at the right time. At the time I also only associated it with the David Lynch classic.
@@RickyTinez Watching the video I assumed you were referring to Moby's classic 'Go' when you had that smile on your face! My first thought was "that's Go!".
What I like about Ricky's videos is that it feels like your visiting a good friend for a chill in the evening. 'Dude, let me show you what I got this time' :-)
Of all the combinations I’ve seen I like this gear the most. If anyone could answer my question I’d be happy😊 : So for context I’m an old muso and I used to write on similar gear back in the 80’s / 90’s. I write structured songs and I £#&£!)/« £/ hate the DAW process. It’s good for vox and instrumentation, mixing / mastering but horrible for creating drum and bass lines. Is gear like this any good for songs ie intro, vers, chorus, midl8’s etc or only good for live creation for EDM, acid etc? If you were in my boat and wanted to get off vst’s for drums and bass what would you go for? I’m looking for a drum machine for the main groove that has the 808 / 909 type sounds with ability to load or trigger my own samples as well. I want an analogue bass something like the original mini moog ( but no way I could spend £10k plus, so maybe a Model D or Moog Minotaur). To make it easier to answer my question you could use DM, Numan etc as general reference. Looking forward to any replies, hoping you guys could help out an old geezer. In advance, 👍
Hi there! a big fan of all your videos/work in here! :) I have a question, i can´t sync via midi my Circit Tracks with my Microfreak, I´ve tried all the Midi in channels on Microfreak, but nothing, not channel 3....1..4.... nothing! :( . The cables connections are more than double checked. (Circuit Tracks MIDI Out to Microfreak MIDI IN ) I just found on REDDIT that maybe the issue it´s with the MIDI TRS adapter, it should be : Type B DIN5 a TRS And I´m starting to think that I have the type A. Anybody is aware of this? or can someone have a suggestion? Thanks so much!
I'm driving myself crazy trying to decide which drum machine to get. I just got a Novation Bass Station 2..but I need a standalone drum machine. The Novation Tracks looks easy to use, but the Drumbrute looks good, too. Help!!
Hi ! Nice jam !!! Get both machines, long time ago for me too 😅 I try to find a mic to record external sound to feed my sampler like kitchen sound, door sound or wathever :) Maybe ambiant sound too ? Do the VideoMic NTG Shotgun is good for that ? 🙏
For anyone who really loved that Twin Peaks melody in a house setting.. Look up the amazing track: TB- Invitation to Love (thank me later) Keep on jamming!
Great video, thank you. I have the same, Circuit midi out to Impact midi in. But I can't get mine to sync'. I have all the same buttons you have selected but can't get my Impact to start when I play my Circuit. What the heck am I missing? Thank you sir.
The dude that works at electron has this beat. I'm sounding like a prick but the last novation product I bought and liked was the supernova pro x. Remember when they made cool stuff? Not just blinking controller boxes.
haha its nice to see that even working for a synth/electronic company, work is still work i fucking hate my day job, but im not quite where i need to be for me to not need it....... ugh.... and i have to run a fucking couple states of retail/auditors tomorrow. mother fuckin case of the mondays lol love ya dude! keep crushin it
I think I've discovered a bug: The issue is that the pads become disabled when setting midi to allow a keyboard to pass note info through to an external synth on a particular ch. The keyboard sends note information to the external synth. No problem there. The issue is that when the keyboard is sending note information to the external synth, the pads no longer work. You have to set up midi thru to enable the keyboard messages to pass through to the Tracks and into the external synth. But unfortunately when it does that, the pads no longer are capable of sending note information to the same external synth on the same channel. Other sequencers I've had that have pads, a keyboard can send midi messages through to the external synth but also use the pads to control the external synth . I'm I'm wondering if this is an issue because I don't see anything in any setting that allows me to send keyboard midi messages to an external synth while also being able to use the pads to control the synth as well.
you can't automate anything, so it's slightly less usable, but the sounds are crisp af, so if you want the goosebumps effect, it's better than the sample-based drums of the circuit.
i like mine a lot. the unquantized sequencing and randomization are great, and with the direct outs you can sound replace or layer sounds if you don’t like its own sounds. though the sounds have worked surprisingly well for me (electro, left-field stuff)
@@steventaylor3789 so on the tracks FX page there's the global on/off for both the reverb and delay, so they cannot be turned on or off independently. Some of the music I've made so far I would love to have then be able to be toggled independently as I do like to use the delay primarily for builds and such where as the reverb I generally mess with more in creating the idea for the track. So more often than not when I'm playing/performing my music for myself I will leave the delay on each ot certain tracks fully wet so as soon as I turn the FX back on the delay does it's thing, but more often than not I notice that I've had some reverb applied to some tracks that I want on throughout. So in having the reverb and delays toggles independent of each other I could still have the reverb on independently throughout the performance while having my delay toggling as I see fit, as opposed to flipping back to the FX and turning all the knobs back to a dry position
This video reaffirmed why I won't get rid of my Impact or Drumbrute. They are super limited but the sound quality is just great. Also you might want to go into your midi center for your impact. Sounds like the C.T. is being triggered by a shared numerical value from one machine to the next.
