Fabulous! I thought that box would be beyond your bender, but no, it did a fabulous job with a bit of heat & so much more elegant than had you made it from four bits & welded it together. Lovely to have reproducible bends giving it a nice symmetry & a factory look. Thanks for sharing!
at my first attempt I was certain it wouldn't do it, but it proved me wrong, I am really impressed with it and I don't know how they can make and ship them for the money! All the best, Cliff
Hey Cliff, that tool is awesome, I made a miniature version of it for bending small, flat or round bar. But square tubing is the ultimate project material. I was looking at pipe benders but nearly all of them were for round pipe and make square tubing fold and kink rather than bend, so seeing one made for square tubing brings joy to my D.I.Y petrol machine heart. And I must say, your first attempt at a loop looked 100%. I think you should get a wood plank, put a hole in the centre of it, big enough to fit the pipe, and use it like a third hand. Your loop twisted because the longer end was dropping down the whole time. So using the wood with holes, you can slot it over the far end of the tube and it would act as a crutch or extra person, holding the other end stopping it from dropping lower, and eliminating the twisting. Just set the hole height level with the bar Just add feet to the board so it can free stand. 👍👍👍
@@CliffsShed ha ha yeah that robot suit was overkill, I like messing around designing stuff, started off with a straw holder that clips onto a glass, now I'm trying to design my own Formula1 car Amazing machines for making replacement parts but the amount off things you can make is insane. Plus the price of filament has just gone back down in price again, yee haa. 👍👍👍
Prolific Bender! Love it, and your sense of humour! John over at Doubleboost gave you a mention, sorry to see your shed fire. I'm working my way through your videos, great content, I hope you get up and running again soon. All the best 👍
Well done Cliff, triumph over adversity. I swore on your first attempt I could hear it coming out the ground. It could do with a removable horizontal brace halfway up the stand that you fix to wall or bench, this will of course trip you up when you forget its there, but would help steady the whole rig. Cheers, Jon
You did hear it coming out! when I turned it round i helped out the anchors with some chemical anchor, I have been thinking about some sort of bracing as well, All the best, Cliff
Hi Cliff.Congratulations on your bender.I owned that bender for over 20 years and I use it now and there, but never paid much attention to it.At that time I was fascinated with this rolling cages to go with sport country cars that protect the driver in case of turning up side down.Nothing came out of it.You need pipe benders, tube benders, expensive soldering equipment etc and a lot of work and money.Looking at your project,it looks like I can get a second life out of my bender.Thank you Stay safe.
It is a good one for the money, needs some strength to do it though, and I am getting a bit short on that as the years pass me by! :-), All the best, Cliff
Don't usually comment but I felt compelled on this one, really enjoyed this video thanx mate, I've asked me Mrs for 1 for me birthday coming up thanks to you 👍👍👍 no doubt I'll make plenty references to me becoming a bender
Good bit of kit for the price Cliff. I was impressed. Who knew an ex-Signaller would turn out to be a prolific bender!!!! All the best, Dean in Oxfordshire.
Cheers Paul, need to sort the wheels out first, trying to do it on the cheap is harder than just buying what you should! But more fun, I hope. All the best, Cliff
I have one of these benders and they are fantastic. However they are limited. Don’t expect a light weight, tool to be able to do all stuff you have been dreaming of for years, perfectly. They are what they are and I use mine all the time for lots of stuff…if you have access to a machine to turn your own dies , you’re way ahead….enjoy
Cheers Matty, for the money (here at least) you can't really knock it, I couldn't make it for less, not counting the time! I am pretty impressed with it! All the best, Cliff
I've just got the blue Vevor bender that bolts on a bench !!!! What a fantastic Machine !!!! I can clamp it on to a Work Bench with G Clamps. I would cut a 45° slot in the square Metal Bar and Bend it to 90° and Weld it !!!! I don't think I've got the strength to bend that stuff now I'm 68 yrs old !!!!! I got it for bending flat steel mainly !!!! It's a bit Confusing at first !!!! But I can watch your video to find out how to use it properly !!! There were no instructions, just an exploded parts diagram !!! But I'm Very pleased with it !!!!
Very satisfying to watch you go through that journey, try to source some 20mm x 1.5mm ERW. Should make it a little easier. Don’t see many folk use hook blades in the Stanley’s wicked they are . Nice vid Cliff.
Cheers Ian, definitely think thinner wall would be the way to go, but two 3mtr lengths was cheap on eBay, and I'm a cheapskate! :-) all the best best mate, Cliff
That looks a nice useful piece of kit Cliff. lol 11.17 mins in lol. Enjoyed the raised former trials. I'm sure you'll have it off to a TEE in no time. Great viewing once again. Tony
I bought one of those years ago, found it way too complicated compared to a simple bender (which I've made by copying one I regularly used in a shop) and it's back in it's box under the bench.
I am impressed with it bending that size of tubing, by the looks of your hands it is HRS which is pretty stout. I have the bench model of that unit and have been successful with flat and round bars. They do open up more capacity in the shop, the forming die you made was brilliant! How did you decide on the amount of offset? The dimple area? Well done that brought some sunshine into the shop eh?
It did indeed Larry (in the end anyway) :-) I just did the dimple as a "That looks about it", didn't really have a clue, as two of them split i suppose it could be a bit much, but the other two are fine, so altogether a bit inconclusive! Thanks for watching, All the best, Cliff
Hey Cliff, do you think this bender can bend a round tube of stainless steel 1 1/2 with 2mm thickness? The papers say yes, but I have not seen anyone bending round pipes with it, I want to make roll cages and boat railings. Thanks
It doesn't come with formers for bending tube, if you can get or make the formers and it's bolted down firmly, and you are as strong as an ox, I think it could do it!
@@CliffsShed haha strong as an ox, maybe I am. Thanks for your reply. It’s interesting that they advertise it as being capable of doing round tube with those flat rollers. So ok, get that die set you say.
Just in the process of setting my bender up, I'm impressed it did box section, did you try box withought the dimple die? Just curious of results if you did.. I wish I had somebody like you close by to teach me, im nearly 40 but everyday is a school day..all the best and stay safe.
If you cap one end and fill it with sand then cap the other end you won't have to heat it . And it shouldn't close in to tight on itself. If you heat it you are weakening the steel . Good job though 👍
