I wanted to create a multifunctional compact matte box that can be used lightly when shooting videos with a digital camera. A square filter (4 x4" & 4x 5.65 filter and 100 x100mm & 100 x 150mm) mounting holder is included, and the gradation filter is height adjustable and designed for effective use.
It may be an upgraded version of the matte box that I shared over a year ago, but it's completely redesigned, with different figures in detail. So there is no compatibility between the old and new versions.
(Check the link below for the previous matte-box version.)
• How to make Lightweigh...
The upgraded feature is the design of the bottom of the mat box so that the rotating circular filter (variable ND & CPL filter) is installed and the filter can be directly operated with a finger from the bottom of the mat box. (Circular or round filters support up to 95mm filters)
When mounting the square filter on the mat box, it is cumbersome and inconvenient to use a dedicated tray, so I designed it so that the square filter can be directly mounted on the mat box. For convenience when using the gradation filter, it is designed to be mounted vertically rather than horizontally.
The French flag on a matte box is very cumbersome to attach and detach and is too bulky to be practical for one person or small production sites. Therefore, with this in mind, it is designed in the form of a hood that can be moved and fixed back and forth. The length of the hood can be adjusted appropriately depending on the focal length of the lens, when carrying or storing, and when it is necessary to block light when shooting. (I also added a fixed hood method that has a large shading effect, but it was not actually printed because it was too large and inconvenient to carry and store was expected.)
I wanted to make a lightweight matte box, so I used only 10% of the in-fill when printing 3D printing. I wanted to use a matte PLA material, but since there is no completely matte material, I used carbon fiber PLA that is close to matte.
In the previous version, insert nuts were used, but the number of parts increased and the assembly process was cumbersome, so this was omitted and simplified.
[Other necessary parts]
4 pcs of M4 x 25mm screws
2 pcs of M5 x 17mm screws
spring (5mm x 15mm)
File sharing is for sharing ideas. Use it for personal use only. Commercial use is not permitted.
Refer to the link below for more information and print file(STL).

• How to make Lightweigh...

@MountainBreezeStudio
@MountainBreezeStudio 3 года назад
It is designed in consideration of the different ways of attaching the matte box to the lens. It can be attached directly to a cinema lens with a front outer diameter of about 114mm or 100mm, and to correspond to various sizes of the front of the lens, use a ready-made accessory attached to a 15mm rod, or use an adapter (filter holder fixed term adapter, etc.) or a general magic arm accessory to fix it. Each device or situation is different, so we recommend that you find a method that suits your needs.

About a year ago, a marketer from a manufacturer specializing in camera lenses came to me and said that they would like to refer to Matbox for lens-related accessory development. At that time, I donated a matte box for reference, so I don't have it now. At the hobby level, I enjoy photography and simple video shooting with vintage lenses, so the matte box is cumbersome. Recently released cinema lenses tend to be smaller than in the past. It looks like the front threads shrink from 114mm to mostly 100mm or 95mm or 82mm. We want to reflect this trend. But recently, moreover, a lot of relatively inexpensive cinema lenses from China that show a vintage look have been released, so I'm skeptical about working with 3D printing.
@binz4253
@binz4253 13 дней назад
@@MountainBreezeStudio You don’t have to worry about Chinese lenses. The current slightly cheaper lenses in China are not good at all in actual testing. Of course, some of the quality is not bad. A series of future trends such as 3D printing are still very good in my opinion. The products you designed, I Really like it. Looking forward to more products.

Can you say if filter slots meant for 2mm or 4mm thickness filters? cine 4x4 filters are 4mm, but photographic 100x100 filters are 2mm What you screw in on 8:43? You havent shown this And can u make 80mm adapter? Bc 80mm is the standard for compact lenses
@MountainBreezeStudio
@MountainBreezeStudio 3 года назад
Designed to be up to 3mm thick, not suitable for 4mm thick filters. Suitable for filters with a thickness of 2 to 2.5 mm. This is a scene where the 95mm filter adapter is mounted and fixed. For fixing the matte box to a lens with a 95mm filter thread in the front. The 95mm filter thread is just a personal preference, and some parts of the adapter are also off-the-shelf and not mentioned. Unfortunately I'm designing this for personal use and running my RU-vid channel just to share some trivial ideas along the way. We ask for your understanding that we cannot respond to individual requests.

Great work. You're awesome❤️. But one question how much does it weigh?
@MountainBreezeStudio
@MountainBreezeStudio 3 года назад
The weight of the printout will be affected a lot by the filament material selection and the internal fill setting in the 3D printer output. Since I wanted something lightweight, I chose PLA filament and an in-filling setting of 10%, and the finished mat box will be around 150-200g. (I didn't measure it because I didn't have a small scale, so it's an estimated weight)

@MountainBreezeStudio
@MountainBreezeStudio 3 года назад

I love this design so much and will probably print it, but the only question I have is if you can place 4x5.6 filters horizontally like they normally go, or is it only vertically? I'd love to print this matte box, but I am looking for this feature. Still, love this and so many more of your designs. Hope this question reaches you!
@MountainBreezeStudio
@MountainBreezeStudio 3 года назад
A 4x5.65" filter (or 100x150mm) can only be mounted vertically. Horizontally Graduated filters for Cinema are too expensive and cannot be adjusted up and down, so they are relatively inexpensive and are designed to fit up and down vertically graduated filters. :)
@nikolasdove
@nikolasdove 3 года назад
@@MountainBreezeStudio Yeah that makes sense. I was hoping to use filters like from Prism Lens FX where they have 4x5.6 filters that have to go the right way horizontally like the lens flare filter they have. Nonetheless, still love the designs and the work you do. Can't wait to see more and thanks for the fast and informative reply!

I was wondering when you might do this, brilliant job as always! I just want to ask you how much does it cost you to print one of your lens rehousings? I've been getting quotes from 3D printing companies in my country and all of them have given me a quote of €200+ for the Helios 44-2 rehousing, is it really that expensive to 3D print six parts?
@MountainBreezeStudio
@MountainBreezeStudio 3 года назад
It is difficult to say exactly because the service cost considering price and labor costs differs from country to country, but I think that it is expensive even considering that. I think it's better to buy an entry-level 3D printer and print it yourself. Kingroon kp3s, for example, can be purchased overseas for around €150 including shipping (which is an inexpensive 3D printer made in China, but it was recently launched and the printing performance is good and the assembly is simple, so the cost-effectiveness is very good!), filament, etc. Even if you buy all the ingredients, it is possible for around €200. That's enough for a Helios 44-2 lens housing to print about 10! 3D printing isn't that difficult, so I think it's easy to make it by searching for information on the web. Give it a try! ;-)
@Johndunneeee
@Johndunneeee 3 года назад
That's brilliant, I've been thinking about buying a 3D printer for a while now and this is the best option I've found yet. What filament would you recommend I should get for producing lens rehousing? Also, do you have any Russian lenses you have in mind right now that you want to rehouse?
@MountainBreezeStudio
@MountainBreezeStudio 3 года назад
@@Johndunneeee I live in a busy city and I prefer eco-friendly materials because I use the printer inside the building. Therefore, I mainly use PLA or special PLA containing carbon or wood powder. However, considering the durability of the printout and the convenience of post-processing, I think ABS filament will be a better choice. Nevertheless, ABS has a more demanding output environment, and must be well ventilated due to harmful and nasty odors. In addition, there are different advantages and disadvantages depending on the characteristics of the filament material, which is similar to the color selection of the filament and is related to each person's taste and preference. I don't have any lenses I'd like to add special yet because I think I already have enough lenses to use. The more I try to own, the proportionately my worries will increase! :)

The rotary circular filter up to 95mm is also designed to be used. (Circular rotatory filter must be attached to the front thread of the lens) The lower part is opened so that it can be operated by hand through the groove in the lower part. However, it would be difficult to use a square filter and a rotatory circular filter at the same time.
