I don't get one thing... We made such a big leap in terms of gaming and technology. From 1 core to 16 cores cpus, from 1mb to 24gb cards etc. Why are there still no games with good destruction, good gameplay with real improvements. World in Conflict was a beast, we had Tom Clancy's EndWar, Ground Control, Supreme Commander and many other games that still hold on pretty well. Why RTS games just frozen in one place, Total War series included.
rts games are probably niche, games that do have great destruction (mow series) have an awful engine. its sad. atleast gates of hell is beautiful af for an rts game
realtime physical interactions are more difficult than just animations. Games being developed to earn money. Everyone playing games and the market is saturated, back then only a few people played games and the passion in developers was more profound since they had to outcompete the other devs in terms of innovations.
because games today are unoptimized. all the power is spent for their game can run at 20 fps then mix it up with DLSS and TAA vaseline anti-aliasing to get a decent 60 frame rates. daily remainder Atomic Heart dev said they used DLSS as a crutch
It's just embarrassing when the effects and audio in a 17 year old game is better than a 2023 release. Apparently there are no talented people left at Relic.
Sounds and especially particles from CoH1 are much better. When firing at the ground, you have the dirt shooting up and raining down again with sounds of it hitting the ground. CoH3 has a little mushroom and some ground fog or whatever that's supposed to be and that's it. Really weird. I don't understand why they went with this Sims-esque artstyle.
people still buy the game, so why the fuck should they care? If you'll still hire and pay the gardener after he shits in the middle of your lawn why should he stop doing it?
I can't believe CoH1 is nearly 20 years old. It was ahead of its time. Such an incredible game. They should have made a modern era themed game just like the modern combat mod.
it wasn't ahead of its time, stuff nowadays is just so far behind our time. PCs are more than 16 times stronger in calculation power than back then, yet games baaaarely advanced technologically. Stuff just became less and less optimized. It's like with a college student and money. If they're low on money they'll live off of 400$ a month. Give them 2.000$ a month and they'll simply waste more of it by eating out, buying garbage they don't need and not making sure they gst as good a deal as possible, contrary to when they were poor. Gaming got "rich" in processing power so everyone just wastes it like an idiot.
I real hate this phrase. “Ahead of it’s time” no coh1 was not ahead, you think that because you don’t want to admit coh2 and coh 3 progressively got worse in almost every aspect except perhaps graphics. So rather than saying coh was ahead, perhaps say coh 2 and coh 3 are behind the times, lacking and outdated.
@@ehsannadeem3970 опередив своё время это значит спустя 10, 20 и т.д. в эту игру играют и она актуальна, а COH 1-2 это одни из лучших РТС про вторую мировую
The sound, man The sound in Coh1 and 2 are incredible. I remember my first experience with the Arti in Coh1, I was scared as shit. Coh3's sound doesn't feel right to me. It needs more BOOMs, and SHOCK
I miss the dev team b4 THQ got disbanded. Now, the CoH title feels just stagnant. Improvements feels like 'degradation', despite the upgrade in engine. From what I see in CoH3, idk if the team really trying at all, or just least experienced.
I think the initial upwards mass of dirt settles too quickly in COH3 which makes it feel a bit underwhelming. I do love the shockwave effect in COH3 though. I think if they made it so stuff disappears less quick in COH3 it would be an improvement.
It's just unbelievable how COH1 is superior to its successors in aspects like graphics, sound and gameplay. Unfortunately, the focus in newer COH parts has not been placed on realism and optical details. People want to experience a realistic, historically accurate and detailed WW2 scenario in strategy game format. In my opinion, COH1 mods like the Blitzkrieg mod are one of the best developments, mainly because of the good sounds and optics. Future game developments should build on this.
the coh1 explosions and sounds are so much better than coh3, i get they tried for more "realistic" approach but man i just want big booms and nice base sounds
Imagine being 17 (!!!) years older and still holding up. Same with other older games from different genres. Modern gaming is stagnating at best, i hope it will improve someday. There were no major improvements/revolutions in gaming since pretty much crysis from 2007.
diminishing returns on graphical improvements means you're never gonna see another crysis like game come along. it's time for gamers to adjust their expectations
@@na8291 I'm not adjusting expectations as long as One-Man-Developers and small teams can spit out better (free) games/mods in a couple of weeks/months in UnrealEngine5 than whole studios with multi million dollar budgets and their own fine tuned engines in several years.
@@na8291 Wrong, many of the things we desire that would provide far more immersion than something like ray tracing are already attainable and we know this because they existed in many games previously, expanding upon them even a little from these old prototypes (like red faction, battlefield bc2/3/4,) would be huge because the industry is so unwilling to invest in some new tech so they continue to give us the same types of games because we are limited by our inability to meaningfully interact with our environments. Things like destruction, terrain deformation, decent AI, good music, good art design. They aren't being made because incompetent tasteless people make it into the games industry then are given commands by equally tasteless superiors and you'll never be a woman.
@@na8291The potential was there for a dramatic graphical improvement. CoH 3 units have highly detailed 3d models yet they paired them with low fidelity textures. Bizarre choices made by modern relic staff.
It's a very prominent phenomenon I've noticed when something is widely unpopular (even for good reason): Thing X is unpopular for good reason. Everyone is pointing out all the flaws with it, and no one wants to look like they're defending it. As a result, people don't just complain about all the areas Thing X is defective in. Many people refuse to admit _any single little thing_ about it doesn't suck. Thing X is bad, so every part of it has to be hated. You could call it the "literally Hitler" phenomenon.
It looks stylized rather than realistic. It's like they made Company of Heroes: Wind Waker. The way the dust circles in exact patterns reminds me of bombs going off in Wind Waker. It really doesn't fit with Company of Heroes.
Building destruction in COH1 is like Men of War: wherever you hit, wherever it fall or break. But COH 3 is like Call to Arm, it has no such responsive destruction mechanic: Wherever you hit, the entirity of it turn into ruin immediately. It felt unresponsive, and such great downgrade as a sequel which it suppose to be a step up fron prequel. Very sad.
Odd thing is, it's not quite a generic destruction overlay. You do have variations mapped across the building, but huge chunks of it are unresponsive, and what it will do instead is blow open holes in unrelated locations. The full commentary on the game is in the works and you'll see it there, I have a clip where a single shell blew open 7 holes in a whole bunch of places
@@RandomMadnessChannel Then it means that it can possibly be a bug. Perhaps they do have proper destruction mechanic, but the hole appear at unrelated location could be a bug theu havent fix.
sound wise they are weird too , it feels not that impactful like COH1 i don't know what is the word for it but instead of being more harsh and real it's more like "arcade" ish.. hopefully they fix it in near future or at least a mod that could spice those sounds up like before
@@Sadend yea and the funny part is that it's just not comparing it to another RTS like COH1 , there are other FPS games too like ( Post Scriptum or Hell let Loose ) they are way similar to COH1 than the new one , i mean if the developers want it like that sure but it's just sounds off
Some things are a little better, some a little worse, some suck (the smoke from the explosions on the 3 are 2D splashes taken from 98). And one might even think that he can go; after all, 17 fucking years haven't passed from one to the other.
Call to Arms has great destruction in it and it’s about 40 bucks cheaper than CoH3 and a damn site better with first person mode and weapon sight views
Battlefield as a franchise has single-handedly spoiled gamers to the point where if they see any sort of HE payload hit a wall and it doesn't get absolutely obliterated they cry its unrealistic.
the building destruction in coh3 is pretty impressive but i dont think your test did a good job. the rockets were shooting so low. tank shooting center mass or a rain of mortors would show it off better I like the explosions from coh1 so much more tho its so surprising for me to say that.
Why on earth a game from 2006 have a better destruction mechanics than a game from 2023? Did the game developers got worse in their training&work experience? 🤦
your graphics settings for 3 look super low.... if youre going to do comparisons - run on comparable hardware for the time... my COH 3 looks waaaay better than this
The settings were maxed with the exception of shadows and AA. Maybe the shadows thing makes a big difference here, but all the ones that would be relevant to destruction are maxed out
When you click attack ground on coh 3, it doesn't recognize the building as target and only tries to shoot at ground level unlike coh 1. Maybe try putting some enemies in the building on cheat mode and try like that. I think the results will be more realistic. Keep up to good work btw. I'm rooting for this kind of comparisons
I am enjoying the campaign of CoH3 much more than I expected. Most battles feel more strategic whereas in the Russian Campaign of CoH2 it was really scripted, tells you where to go what to do which units to use. The battles I have fought in CoH3 give you a few early units and a starting base and let you decide how to take the map.
In my opinion, as someone who’s played the previous installments in the series (in fact CoH 1 got me into the RTS genre), I couldn’t help but notice that the graphics and art design in the latest release seem outdated and neglected. It’s as if the developers didn’t put in as much effort as they did in the past. While the game has its merits, this issue is definitely worth considering if one is considering to buy CoH3. I didn’t order a refund though since I am naively optimistic that the state that CoH3 is in is still salvageable. This can be smoothed out in next patches if we don’t abandon this game and show that players are interested in playing under the condition that the bugs and graphics issues are resolved. Just my two cents on the matter (two cents nowadays isn’t worth much considering inflation).
Erm I thought things were supposed to get better 😂 Everything is better about CoH 1. The ai actually aim at buildings for a start rather than shoot at the buildings foundations like in 3. The sounds in CoH 3 are quite literally dogshit. Games are absolutely crap these days.
2 out of 3 ain't bad. The building destruction is a downgrade, but the terrain and vegetation work for me. CoH is one of my favorite franchises, but I still can't justify the 60 dollar price tag right now. Hope we get a sale soon
Doesn't seem like it's a matter of activation, from what I can see it looks like you have big chunks of the building be unresponsive. As in, you'll see an impact at a certain wall yet a chunk somewhere else will fall off. Really bad stuff
1>3 Wimpy sounds, like this whole generation. Nothing beats CoH1+Blitzkrieg mod after all these years. I wish the original Devs would continue to develop it.
CoH3 looks like an early 00s game with sprite dust clouds from the bombs, placed at each corner of a box, and with chunks... shrinking and vanishing, that feels so cheap. Would think there would be far better advancements than that.
RTX, DLSS, 4k, $2000 video cards with 1 million gigabytes of video memory... No? Shouldn't this be used? I'm going to get my Voodoo Rush 6mb out of the garage. Welcome to the past.
Watching this, it seems a lot of care did go into CoH3 in certain departments. The texture work looks good, but it's blurred beyond recognition in most areas which is more of a rendering/engine issue than an artistic one. The same can be said for the lighting, a lot of CoH3 feels very washed, and there's no occlusion around buildings which gives them the cartoonish look. It's sad such oversights can reduce the visual impact of the game so much.
game is a total disappointment ,, COH 1 the best to this day , 2th was ok the screwed up with the base set up, 3th joke full of bugs no real improvement to the game, sure the video speaks for its self i would rather play the original any day,, why couldn't they just improved the quality of the first one add more vehicles and better graphics ,, game sorted ,,,,,,,,even the sound quality is better in the first one
The units are like a cartoon and they float on the map. Coh2 was much more organic. Coh3 had problems from the jump and everyone was like “it’s not finished yet” Ppl need to learn to identify core issues baked into the fabric of a game and realise some things won’t change down the line
It's not the technology it's the talent the first game when it was made was made by talented people with a massive investment in the game. Now it's maid by some kid who's pass his uni exam who had nothing to do with the original sad but true
Dude, thanks for this comment. I have tried applying through Steam before and didn't get a key, I decided to look into ways of perhaps reaching out by email and apparently it was on one of the platforms I get review codes from. A video is currently uploading.
Whenever you see mutiple comparison videos comparing a 17 year old game you know the new game sucks hard that they have to compare everything 😂 and why is it that some of the coh 1 clips are definitely not max graphics settings and looks better in every way 😂
