These kids are awesome. Wish they had the whole show on RU-vid.

This show has to be the greatest high school musical production of all time. I can almost feel the brilliance radiating off of that lead. He is such an incredible person. I just can't comprehend how those other actors could stand to be on the same stage with him without passing out from his powerful performance. What was his name anyway? He is certainly going to do great things with his life.

Oh my god... I LOVE that set! A really good rendition by the cast too!

This is over 5 years ago but I am amazed at this video. I salute you and your team for choosing to adapt "Company", a musical considered difficult to pull off because of its music variation, even though you were still high school students. The opening sounds great, btw, though I feel the band couldn't get the timing right at the beginning. I wish more high schoolers take risks just like this.

This is very, very, very good for a high school production. Well done! Unlike others productions on RU-vid, you captured the actual essence of the show. Not a cheap retake of it.

This is pretty good for a High School production. Some people are expecting professionalism...my gosh this is one of Sondheim's toughest show. The fact that they did this is saying a lot.

Damn I love Sondheim, and this is.. so ... awesome I just LOVE the way everything overlays and becomes this wonderful harmonic, chaotic cacophony of chords and sounds

These clips were posted to help the memory live on in the minds of the students that put their hearts and souls into this production. This is not the place for you to re-judge a show from 3 years ago. You are more than welcome to view these clips, but you seem like you are holding on to old feelings.

I would LOVE to have seen the whole production. VEry impressed. Much better production values than we were able to get at my high school. Most importantly, I love the fact that younger people are able to experience this show, and think about its important ideas about relationships. If I had heard and understood the song "Being Alive" when I was 17, my life would be different!

Dear Mr Huggy, Why all the anger and hate. I saw this show and it was wonderful. Leo is right. It won tons of awards. Infact, A close friend and producer of Sondheim sat in the audience and loved it. He also invited the student who sang "Ladies" to perform for Sondheim at a private party. The director turned on a new generation to Sondhiem instead of crap like Mama Mia etc... "and that's what is really about isn't it".

Wow. Say whatever you want, I gotta admire the school for putting on this show. I unfortunately have never gotten the chance to see it, but I'm a big fan of the music and if that was anything to go by, y'all did a great job, especially for a high school.

Funny you mentioned the composer. One of his producers saw the show as well as Follies the year before and loved it. Sondheim personally congratulated the director for both of the productions. In addition, a student from Company sang "Ladies" for Sondheimn at a private party. Sondheim loved it.

I think that the fact that many more of the comments on this link are negative than on the links for Will Rogers, Cabaret and Grand Hotel is partially due to the fact that the recording of our shows was changed from tape to DVD after Company. And this isn't a knock towards WRF cabaret or Grand Hotel in the slightest, but to a neutral eye (and ear) that may be a big reason why. The performances are portrayed much more accurately on DVD.

I was expecting to be cringing and gasping in shock. For high school kids, it wasn't bad at all. Some of these kids might get to do it on Broadway someday. Cheers to them.

It's really nice to hear from you. I'm sorry about your shirt. I miss your jokes every day at rehearsal. You made the whole show experience bearable. I hope you can find someone else this year who will appreciate your humor as much as I did. You just don't get that kind of humor out here in Ohio.

I was wondering one other thing. Why does the larger than average guy from the wedding scene have such a large head? It's enormous!!! Leo J. Revlis must have been the linch pin in the creation of this show. I can just tell by viewing this short scene that he had to be the most important factor in the show's overall success. I can also infer that Leo must have a very large and complex wardrobe. A genius must dress the part, after all.

I'm impressed with the production values -- great multilevel set and there must be 100 light cues in the opening number alone. Not real sure what the "twinkle lights" are about, though. It makes it look like a cruise-ship show.

I thought the steps were a strange choice until I read this comment. Is the original version available anywhere to see. The show tunes channel on cable plays some of the songs with Dean Jones, Charles Kimborough and Beth Howland, incredible.

I am reading these comments and amazed how ignorant people can be. Just because Company is about adults, they think it can't be done by teens. What high school play other then Charlie Brown or Footloose or HSM doesn't have teens playing adults. It is called acting, duh! This number was done great and judging by it I would love to see the rest. I'm sure the bench looked great too.

I said sorry choreography because I misspelled it the first time, choreography is actually quite good.
@TexasPhoneMan
@TexasPhoneMan 17 лет назад
The original production had 2 working elevators on stage. The production team clocked the time it took them to "deliver" the couples to their respective apartments. There is a notation in the vocal score M103 which states "(+Pre-recorded tape)". The audience was mesmerized watching the elevators and not listening to what was being sung. Without the elevators that LO-O-O-O-O-NG, sustained note is just obnoxious and weird-sounding...and HELL to choreograph!
@ZB2002
@ZB2002 16 лет назад
Why not a high school? Are your comments based only on the vocals? Did you see the other Company clips? What are your thoughts on the entire production? Sondheim shows are about telling the story. I saw the show and the story was told very well. I did not pay too much attention to the vocal quality of Bobby.

Not bad at all for a high School production; nailing all those counter melodies, throughout these very modern chord changes is quite a challenge, but the full band entrance @ 1:17 and the transition @ 1:37 could have been a tad smoother.However I agree a bit w/ richardjduke's comment , in that you'll all do a better job at it once you're over 30 yrs old, and have ,well, experienced some of the themes of the musical in your own private lives.But keep it up and good luck!
@ZB2002

Matthew what other high school groups did Company? I saw your performance clips in your favorites list. Your shows look great and you have a lot of talent. However, your comments about a school and a theatre department that has the balls to do Company sound like some immature teen and not a young talent with a lot of promise in the performing arts. I saw that Company production and it was amazing.There is much more to a theatre production then holding a note for the proper duration.
@ZB2002
@ZB2002 17 лет назад
I noticed you posted your performance from Seussical the Musical. Have you ever performed in any Sondheim shows? I would love see the clips. Tell me something about your school. The quality looks great. Does the school have a website? I would also like to know where exactly in the Company # the rhythms were off. I have the full score. Just wondering.
@ZB2002
@ZB2002 17 лет назад
In regard to your response about being immature. I did not mean immature in a stupid way. You are very smart with a lot of talent from what I see in your clips. Sometimes teens that are very smart and talented tend to show their immaturity by being pompous and all knowing. They feel they have to police the world and make it better based upon their own life experiences. How old are you 17.
@ZB2002
@ZB2002 17 лет назад
It's a live performance not a studio recording. That's the best you can do? Jenny's quarter note was held for a 32nd note too long. The Vocal Minority does not exist anymore in the newly packaged score. By the way are you from the UK? Did you see the Donmar Warehouse production of Merrily. I read a lot of great things about it. Still think your comments are immature. Sorry. Just constructive criticism.

I always appreciate a "creative" answer to a design problem. But the FOLLIES set had a few extras...in the Loveland sequence, if I remember...so I think you probably could have found something to make "New York" another character in this show. Nitpicky, I know. But clearly your production was a cut above the rest, so why not try to raise the bar a little higher :-)

I attend a high school whose productions range from "No,No, Nanette" to "Annie", and it is absolutely disgusting. This director should be thanked for educating teenagers about theatre that is effective and has some artistic value.

Where is NEW YORK? The show is about people who cannot make REAL connections living in a city full of apartments stacked one on top of each other, with "another hundred people" coming up from the subway to the streets. Should have had a NYC Skyline or something. Otherwise, nice job!

I don't care how well they sing or how good the sets are or how they all hit their mark. It's not about how talented these kids are. This show is about adults, and not in the same way that "South Pacific" is about adults. These kids don't really know what this show is about. "Company" is perhaps the most important musical of the past 40 years, and it should be performed by adults. "Company" only really works when the performers actually know why they are singing what they are singing..

Dear Mr Huggy, I think your user name of Mr. Huggy does not work. Huggy means someone who is welcoming and loving. Your harsh comments to a cast a high school students and a director who is devoted to theatre education is not a welcoming or loving person. Shame on you. Plesae change your user name.
