Description: The 718 AP3 was Titleist’s first true entry into the players distance iron category. So earlier this fall when Titleist released the new T200, which is also a players distance iron, many assumed that it was a replacement for or an updated version of AP3. But that’s not the case, as each of those irons features a completely different construction approach. That said, given that T200 and AP3 do both squarely reside in the aforementioned players distance category, it’s only natural that people are going to compare the two, which is why 2nd Swing staff members Thomas Campbell and Andrew Mahowald wanted to test them using Trackman 4 to explore the differences in look, sound, feel, and performance.

According to Ai the AP3 is an all-around much better club than even the 2023 T200, in every it's catagory tested. Idk though

I wanted as forgiving as possible without compromising weight and clubface shape. Ap3s for me thanks.

I own a full set of AP2's which I love but I'm looking for some more help in my 4 and 5 iron (i have no intent to get rid of the AP2's I don't think it's worth it making a switch). Should I try and blend a AP3 or T200 in with my set? On paper it looks like the T200 will require 2 degrees or so of loft weakening, while the AP3's will only require 1 degree of weakening on the 5 iron and the 4 iron can stay - I believe that would leave me with 4 degrees between each club. So the loft of the AP3 makes more sense if it matters at all with bounce and what not, but on the other hand, the T200 may blend with my AP2 fit and feel more than the AP3.

Blending your AP2s with AP3s would likely provide better visual appeal as the irons would look more similar at address than the AP2s to the T200s. Either way though, you have the right idea. Adding a little more forgiveness at the top of the iron set is something all golfers should look to do. Adding a couple pieces in that players-distance category is perfect to blend with a set of players irons. Just need to bend the lofts to ensure proper gapping.

2nd Swing Golf I was thinking the t200s might blend better since they’re forged and a tiny bit slimmer than the ap3s I believe. Is that not accurate?

Avengers: The Investing Initiative I’m not very consistent with hybrids. Something about them makes me lack confidence over the ball I feel like I can’t hit them like an iron or a wood and I don’t often find that middle ground. But when I am hitting my hybrid well I can definitely see the benefit. I just feel with an iron I can always shorten up my swing and do a punch shot out of trouble if I need and I can’t do that with my hybrid so I prefer to have a 5-4 iron on the bag

Avengers: The Investing Initiative ya I know it’s a diff swing that irons as the driver is as well. I’ve watched tons of videos I just don’t like hybrids standing over the ball much it’s more mental and preference than anything I feel I have more chance to spray my hybrid that if I hit a long iron it might not be a perrrct shot every time but it’s usually not going too far off line. I’m just not as comfortable as with an iron and I can’t work the ball like with an iron or so many different types of shots. I’m going to stick with using irons down to the 4 iron but I might do some testing with ap3 or ts200 and see if they’re any more forgiving for me.

Rifle 6.5 ? F.... I changed my 6.0 after got about 58 yrs old...... made me swing too hard. I can hit 105-109 MPH with driver so can stay stiff in graphite. My irons are the stell RSB Tour V which is 105 grams. Says R flex, but very consistent. On flex, big variation in brands; tested a Ping hybrid R graphite, same as a Cobra Fuji S .

Do you want to hit your irons far or fur? If it's far, then you want to hit them farther not further. Lol. TXG you are not but you both have outstanding swing speed so why not both try the cubs and present the data for us to evaluate.? If you need someone with a normal clubhead speed, give me a call. FYI, when it gets too cold in Minnesota to golf, come down to central Florida! Go Golden Gophers!
