I use my Peak Slide strap all the time for carrying my camera and lens in the woods. My biggest lens is a Sigma 150-600C. I use the tripod collar for one of the attachment points. This setup works great for me. Easy on and easy off and quickly attaches to tripod.

Of course straps have their place for numerous photographers. But if you have a backpack anyway, the Peak Design Capture Clip is the FAR superior solution. No dangling camera. No extra strap which makes you sweat more. No fumbling when you start the hike or have a break. Less baggage. For protection against the camera falling down accidentally I have a thin, simple strap attached to my Sony camera (one which came with my little Olympus} which simply lays around my neck loosely all the time.

I've had the Peak Design Slide for almost 2 years and the nylon mounts show no sign of wear yet. They are multi-layered with different colors in the inner layers and the different colors will be noticeable as they wear. I used a Dremel Tool to cut a slot in the base screw so I could use a coin.

I love my Peak Design "Slide" strap. Been using it now over three years. Have never had a failure of the anchors. I use the Peak Design Arca-Swiss type tripod plate on the bottom of my camera(s) with a PD anchor on the tripod plate and another PD anchor on the side of the camera. This allows the camera to be carried over the shoulder with the lens hanging down for comfortable carry off your hip and allows quick access to the camera. I can easily unsnap the strap and with the PD Arca-Swiss tripod plate, mount the camera to my tripod without having to unscrew anything. I also use the Peak Design "Capture Clip" on my backpack strap. The same tripod plate clips into the Capture Clip for handy shoulder strap carry when using my backpack. Peak Design has come up with a wonderful and very versatile system...

I just got the Black Rapid Curve Sport for my birthday. It has changed my camera carrying life. I love it. It is significantly more comfortable and makes carrying my Mark IV with the longer 100-400 L lens tolerable on my wildlife photography hikes. Easily the best strap I've used.

I use the Peak Design strap and have for several years. I leave an L bracket on my cameras at all times and the Peak Design attachments work well on that. I also have extra attachments on an insert I sometimes use as a camera bag. This is the most versatile strap I have used and I love it. As for the attachments strength, I've used them on my D810 with 70-200 lens for a long time and have seen no sign of wear or concern of them breaking. AS you pointed out, I really like having the ability to go over the neck on either side, over a single shoulder on either side.

I've had the Peak strap for several years and have never had an issue with the links. When I bought mine, the Arca mount was standard so I can use a tripod without messing around. But they have since switched to the lower profile mount with the hex screw. You can also use one of the additional links to connect to the other top strap mount on your camera when using the strap over your neck. I did have one problem with my original strap where the grip strips on the strap turned gummy and left marks on my shirt. They have a new formulation for the grips now and when I contacted them about my grips deteriorating they sent me a new strap free with no questions asked, so their warranty isn't just talk! So far no grip issues with the new strap. I would highly recommend the Peak Slide. They also have a lot of other neat products which I wish I could afford :-)

I like the Peak Design because it's a system, not just a strap. I have the Slide strap and the Manfrotto plate. I also have the PD Clip, which attaches to my rucksack strap and that enables me to attach the Manfrotto plate (and thus the camera) to my rucksack, with the lens facing down. By pressing the release latch (which is lockable) I can detach the camera in a couple of seconds. It's a quick action and comfortable way of carrying my Sony with a pretty heavy lens. My old Slide developed a problem and I communicated with PD. They immediately accepted that the Slide was not performing properly (design since modified) and immediately dispatched to me a brand new strap and attaching clips/threads. It is a superb system and, when the camera attachments wear, as they will after much use, the user will see that the threads show yellow - warning that it's time to get replacements. With further wear the threads connecting to the camera show red - time to stop using that thread. I did have a Black Rapid but I stopped using it as the screw thread connector, attaching to the camera tripod thread, began to exhibit metal particles on the washer. Clearly the swivel was eroding, which concerned me. The company said it was fine but I did not think so and I had no wish to get iron filings in my camera, nor to lose my D850 by a worn out thread.

I really love my Peak Design slide. I also have their Clutch hand strap. Both using the same anchors allows quick switching from one to the other, or I can add adapters and use both. I have the smaller plate that connects to my tripod, so I never need to worry about removing it. TBH, I like that it uses a hex wrench so I don't inadvertently loosen it. Black Rapid has a huge fan base and I understand why. Nice strap too.

I have the Peak Design slide and love it. It’s great when you don’t want a strap very easy to remove and I also have a 3 Legged Thing Tripod and the Swiss Arca plate has the slots around it for the clip to connect to so it stays on the camera.
@joep0rter
@joep0rter 4 года назад
Good comparison video, I have had both straps but now only use the BlackRapid one, I combine it with a 3 Legged Thing L-Bracket which has an attachment point on the portrait side of the bracket which allows you to keep the strap in place when using a tripod. It does mean the camera hangs at a different angle on your hip but removes the need to completely remove the strap and therefore reduces the temptation to shoot without a tripod. I also have the Peak Design Clutch hand grip attached with one of their anchor points on the bottom of the L-bracket.

Thanks for the comparison Anthony. I loathe the more common neck type camera straps with a passion so have used these sling type straps for a long time. I'm a Black Rapid user myself but prior to that I used a cheap generic version by a company called Focus which has worked really well. In fact I still use the cheaper one on occasion. I have the dual camera Black Rapid model which serves me well during events where I'll have two cameras, one with the 24 to 70 f2.8, the other with the 70 to 200 f2.8. My only peeve with these sling type straps is I often find them slipping off my shoulder when I lift the camera up to my face ( maybe I've just got very narrow shoulders lol ). I end up with the entire strap hanging from my waist!. This only happens when I have just one camera hanging off the Black Rapid however, with two each side it stays put fine. Can't comment on this Peak Design strap because I've never used them but I suspect it's " slippyness " would likely cause it to slide off my shoulder as well occasionally.

Anthony we do like your youtube channel. My wife and I have been using Peak Design Leash, Slide, Clutch for five years or more and never had a problem with the straps or the Anchor Links, one of the layers in the Anchor Links is kevlar which is 4 x stronger than steel, we find they are so versatile, my wife loves the Clutch, as I do not use camera straps when shooting, only on long hikes and they are so easy to remove.

Peak design had a recall/free replacement program for the anchor straps not too long ago. Thin and thicker anchor cords might still be in the retail channels - avoid the thin ones. I found that Peak Design anchor cords tend to twist when placing camera in and out of camera bag - have to untwist strap; minor issue. One RU-vid channel demo’d DIY reinforcements for the Black Rapid tripod mount arrangement - involved paracord from one camera eyelet through mount screw opening to the other eyelet.

For the Black Rapid strap, you can attach a L-bracket or other camera plate to the camera bottom. Then attach a Neewer arca-swiss clamp with knurled screw (DC-38Q) to the Black-Rapid fastner. Using this technique you can keep the arca-swiss plate attached to the camera body at all times, then simply attach the Black-Rapid strap to the camera arca-swiss plate via the DC-38Q Neewer plate when you want to.

The PD nylon anchors turn red as they wear out to let you know to change them. I haven't had any problems with the Peak Design straps with heavy cameras and lenses. I use the Manfrotto base plates. I used to use the Black Rapid but didn't care for the 1/20 tripod mounting. Great video.

another great video. My biggest issue is with the Nikon 200-500. I connect my BR strap to the lens, when I'm walking, But to disconnect it from the lens, then mount on a tripod is a pain. Looks like the arca swiss mounts with the strap are the way to go.

The small nylon connectors for the Peak Design straps are "Dyneema" nylon. It is a very strong substance. We use it often in rock-climbing. They most likely will handle the 200 pound force as advertised. 🙂

I don't use long straps anymore. I use a Cotton Carrier wrist strap and for carrying I use the SpiderPro Holster. It is much better than carrying the weight of your camera on your shoulder all day. I have a bad back and with this system I can carry my gear all day no problem, Also really useful for carrying a spare camera with a different lens.

Love your videos Anthony but I have to take issue with your definitive statement that the Black Rapid is more secure because of your perception of the Peak Design anchor links. They are rated for 200+ pounds and the Peak Design team uses them to stow away their bicycles for the day on the walls at their corporate HQ. I've used them now for years on the Nikon D800 series with long lenses and battery grip without any sign of wear.

I’ve used the peak design strap for a few years now and haven’t had problems with the anchor cords. With long heavy lenses I normally put the anchors on the tripod collar of the lens to take away the strain from the camera lens mount. Having also paid extra to purchase another tripod plate to suit a Manfrotto, I would urge caution as they are not as snug fitting as the original. Better perhaps to buy more hex keys one for each pocket, than see your camera bounce on the floor!

I did my research using YT vids and did end up buying the peak design Slide . It is a nice useful strap as long as you are using a short/ light weight lens . I find it totally useless with my canon 7Dmki+100-400mm combo and sure regret the purchase . Let me explain . The moment you lift the camera to your eyes the strap has the tendency to slide off your shoulder and fall around your hips . I hear you saying , Oh that wouldn't happen if you wear the strap short !! Well yes , but if you do that you lose the liberty of lifting your camera to your eye in a jiffy and get that elusive bird shot !! In other words you should be fiddling with the buckle that helps to make the strap long or short - every time you want to shoot ! That's indeed terribly inconvenient and defeats the purpose !! It's perfectly fine if so am using the 50mm prime or one of those wide angle lenses . There goes my seventy bucks down the tube !

Like you its boxing day and these straps, slide straps, hand straps whatever happens to pop up on my feed.....while looking at these I always have second thoughts. For the type of shooting I do, mostly i have to be fast and on the move; these things are handy yes but I hold my camera most the time and although the set up is heavy I just have to deal with it. If anything a peak design HAND strap works best in my case, not these one...waste of money tbh.

The problem with peak design especially the way you have it with your 70-200 is most of the weight stress is put in the camera mount because of heavy lens. The black rapid allow you to carry the weight at the lens by attaching it directly to the lens

Anything is a compromise. As m'Learn'd colleague wisely advises PDs anchor loops are colour structured. I would further counsel any...ANY...signs of real wear, stray filaments or cuts, bin them. Your gear is more valuable than that. Unless you work from a bag or case to a tripod you're going to need some manner of strappage. it's up to you how you're most comfortable with that. But, be assured, you're not going to be. Perfect Function vs practical usage vs absolute security can't exist. Personal environment/need/use/choice.
