All of my Dragon Fruit from your Farm are doing very well. This year, my first bloom was from Rixford, there was no pollen around. To my surprise, both of the flowers fruited, and were harvested after 60 days. The fruit was chilled, and they are the best . Now I can proof Rixford is self-pollinating, worth the wait.
Glad you got fruit. With over 50 of blooms over the past years, we have maybe had 5 fruit. Where did you get your Rixford from? No doubt ours is Self Sterile. Also for all of Pauls Rixford clones, all but one is self-sterile. How is this explained when the other parent was a self-fertile variety? Where do all the clones get the denominate self-sterile gene from? I would say from the mother, Rixford.
I’ve just started this great planting adventure😂I’ve always been a gardener so I say why not attempt growing The Dragons here in NY am a little worried because of my climate and this is why I am potting it to bring in and out of my house 😂in during the winter and out in the summer. I bought some cuttings that has been rooting for a while now will transplant over the weekend and I’ve also germinated some Sugar Dragons and whites from Ecuador. I have done an extensive amount of research. If succeeded with these I have then I will have a yard full once I relocate to a warmer area but for now NY is where I’ll give it a go.
Thanks, These are not our first flowers. We had an earlier flower cycle by several red flesh varieties in May. Flowers starting depends on how strong our winters are. Mild winters we get flowers in March. This year it was April. For hard winters we get fruit starting in June / July and not as plentiful.
Please explain . Why my dragon flower after blooming and a few days later the fruit bud will turn yellow and drop . It's been going on for five years now.
Seems you are ready for a new Taste Test! I loved the first one, but now you have a greater variety! Please do a new one without including any from that first test. Thank you.
Hey i live in Romania and im wondering if i could grow this and produce fruits,my question is how long does it takes for the fruits to be ripe ? IS there variety that does ripe much faster ? Ohh man i wish i can have some in my garden even it i would frost protect it
I would have to say sweetest and best fruiting " in my area" is Physical Graffiti. We have not had the success with more delicious varieties where I'm from. Also, we test over 20 new types every year, so this could change. Also, our growing condition may not be the same as yours, so you may not find this to be true in your growing region.
@@Spicyexotics ok. Then please help me. I have a problem.(not a actually a problem, a blessing) I have, what I thought to be H.Costaricensis. it's a gorgeous plant. The thorns are almost non existant, well, they are very small. It is self fertile. Red inside almost magenta color, red outside. Here's a link to my gdrive folder to it. Hope you can help me out. The fruit is very sweet. drive.google.com/folderview?id=1-AeFzOGcKZEgPQ9ETDDgmgxG9VT36Au3 ETA: the reason I mention this is I thought I purchased it from you through ebay. But ebay deletes 2+ year old records. And I do recommend your website to everyone. Thank you
@@Spicyexotics Thank you very much. I just went into your website and sure enough, the flowers are the same and the shape of the ribs on the branches/stems are nearly identical: Thin and look like arrowheads. And yes, it is self-pollinating, and very sweet. Here again thank you for identifying my dragon fruit cacti.
Thanks for the prompt response. We grow 3 varieties of the dragon fruit in Hawaii in our backyard. Would like to know you can ship your cuttings to Hawaii, USA? Do you need a license to send?Appreciate your response. Happy and prosperous growing!
@@CSCHAN88 Yes we ship to Hawaii. You do not need a license, however if you are a nursery and need to purchase from a trusted provider, Spicy Exotics is a certified Nursery with the State of Louisiana. We can provide our license number if needed.
Spicy Exotics Thank you for your reply. I have already made purchase from your online store expected to arrive tomorrow! Mainly for my own garden, backyard. I am waiting for your Bruni and other cuttings to become available again!
We encourage most insects to stick around. Most are not harmful to the plants and they prey on the harmful insects. Fire Ants are the only thing we treat, and we do it in an organic way throughout the year.
Okay can I ask about your "Bruni" variety (spelling) is this considered a Yellow variety and does it have white flesh? Also is this as sweet as the "spined" yellow variety?
It is not considered the same as Yellow or Colombian Dragon Fruit. It is very sweet and tasty, but I would say not as sweet as Yellow Dragon. www.spicyexotics.com/product/bruni/
Awe... too far it's 15 hours and 30 minutes drive from my house. I hope Kroger and Meijer, will purchase Dragon fruits from you. I always buy it there.
Sir plz tekl me is it true that cutting grow from mature plant (5-7 years) gave good fruiting and grow fast. But DF cutting from 1-2 years old plant not give good fruits and also not grow well. Plz tell me
For our first 5 years we only sold mature cuttings. Now we toss them. In the last two years alone we have over 100 customers starting fruiting within the first year with quality fruit. This also has to deal with the quality of the new cutting. Most of our cuttings are over 30 inches that we send out. Happy customers is a core quality we seek in our business.
Most white (undatus) all resemble each other in plant and flowers, small three sided thorns with large growth. Reds typically have larger thorns, and Yellow are rare to find, but it has it's own unique shape.
We do not mean to, but weather conditions change how the fruit responds. Dragon Fruit is also not our full-time gig so we do not check on them every day.
I am from Andaman &Nicobar Islands, India. I want to grow orange peel and yellow peel dragon fruit. Is it possible for u to send me this two varieties of dragon fruit seeds or seedling.
I'm actually growing some white- and yellow-fleshed dragonfruit that I harvested from fruit at the store. Was hoping to have them in hanging baskets as you have in some places. Would love to know how much direct sunlight these plants need because I have a few spots in my house with really great sunlight exposure to the south.
