Visit my website at www.junglejoel.com - the longan (Dimocarpus longan) is a tropical tree that produces small edible fruit. It is one of the members of the soapberry family (Sapindaceae), to which the lychee also belongs. Longan are native to Southern Asia.
In this video we compare longan with four other similar-sized tropical fruits: the mangosteen, lychee, longkong, and rambutan.

Thanks, yes they're all quite good, though my personal favorite is probably mangosteen. I didn't realize that until I tasted them all together for this video.

I've never had dragons eye or longkong. I wish I lived where there was such lovely fruits. I know the others are sweet n lovely.

I've tried all of them except the longkong/lansat. I miss eating these fresh when I was last down in Thailand, somewhat tricky to find here in Sweden and the exported ones seldom taste as good as the ones found at the local market.

I like the Longan when it is cool because even thought it may not be as sweet as the others, it is quite juicy and aromatic. The dragon eye fruit is nice also because it is sweet but it is a bit small.
