Trivia: You can eat the seed of a Jack Fruit. Just boil it for at least 15 minutes, peel it's outer shell and eat it. It's my favorite. A young unripe Jackfruit can be used as vegetable in many Soth east Asian countries.

In Mexico Tamarinds are very popular, Mexican Tamarind candy is amazing, more on the sweet side. They are often used to make icy/fresh-sweet Tamarind water. However, my personal favorite is Tamarind syrup flavored shaved ice!

Thanks for all of the suggestions, Louise. These are amazing. I was initially searching for information about papaya, since I had purchased one in the store but wasn't sure which portions were edible. I'm glad I found your video, after hearing about the potential hazzard of eating the seeds (which was exactly what I was wondering about). The first RU-vid video I watched about papaya didn't even mention the seeds, so your tip was particularly appreciated. But your display of all of the other fruits and the details about them was very educational. I have never even heard of most of these. I need to get out more, in terms of eating fruit. In America, we also call them stones or seeds, btw. Not sure you need to apologize for using that terminology. Very common here. Oh, it was also helpful that you mentioned about what signifies ripeness in fruits. The other video about papaya didn't and actually displayed an unripe, yellow papaya. Mine is ripe, and darker orange, with red, as you describe. It's people like you, who make services like RU-vid so enjoyable. What a treat!

we eat a lot of papaya and tamarind in mexico, actually we make "tamarind water" by removing the hard shell and veins, rinsing it, then soaking the flesh and seeds in a bit of hot water for 30 min after which you can easily remove the seeds and throw the flesh and water in a blender, then you pass it all trough a strainer and mix that with cold water and sugar and there u go, tamarind juice.

And for the person who keeps complaining about calling the fruits "exotic". ex·ot·ic iɡˈzädik/ adjective adjective: exotic 1. originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country. "exotic birds" synonyms: foreign, nonnative, tropical; introduced, imported Since most of those fruits fruits do not grow in Denmark (I'm guessing) then they would be exotic to her. Stop trying to turn this into something it's not. She's not being offensive. And yes, if bananas do not grow in your country they would be exotic - even if they are common. Exotic (as the definition proves) does not mean rare. Exotic also does not mean amazing or awesome either. Just because something is exotic does not mean it's something beautiful. So a BUICK would be EXOTIC to a German. So that being said, please try to look up words before you go on rants. You can't change the definition of words just to fit your wants.
@c.evangelista9695
@c.evangelista9695 9 лет назад
***** Considering Italy has been growing their own tomatoes all by themselves since the 1500's, I think it's safe to say that they are no longer "exotic". I would say that probably prior to that, they were most definitely exotic.
@eyebeebak
@eyebeebak 9 лет назад
C. Evangelista Show me a source where Germans and Italians considered a Buick is an exotic car. Don't tell me you're going to pull it out your ass. You said tomatoes are no longer exotic after 1500's because italy has been growing their own tomatoes. So these tropical fruits are grown in Florida, are they considered exotic too? dumbass.

It's not unsafe to eat papaya seeds, unless you are pregnant. Papaya should not be eaten in general while pregnant because it contains high amounts of vitamin c, which can induce your period. Otherwise, papaya seeds can be quite tasty! They are very peppery, and some people actually dry them and use them as an alternative to peppercorns. Me personally, I like them blended up into a salad dressing.

SweetSailor: In my whole life i never see anybody eat papaya seeds, because its have no taste/smell, have nothing to eat. Of course you cant eat papaya seeds just like you cant eat mango seed, mangosteen seed, longan or rambutan seed... More exotic fruits is more healthy we have lol ^^ All of this fruits is from Vietnam & some Southeast Asian (Thailand,Lao,Cambodia,Malaysia..) Mangosteen is 100% delicious fruits, against cancer, brighter skin... PS: You can boil jackfruit's seed, its yummy. Its like...almond or some kind of seed. Tropical fruits is amazing, but people always like or want something we dont have. I mean im absolute love Asia tropical fruits, i eat alot fruits evryday for my diet. Flick Wise actually in America it is common to call "stones" pits even though fruits with pits are called stone fruits. But the difference between pits and seeds are the number. There is only one pit but there are multiple seeds, and yes usually they are smaller than pits but not always.
@angelacatherine5210

Angela Catherine nope let me refine that answer actually the stone or pit refers to the hard shell surrounding the seed. But I was right in saying there is only one per fruit.

These are not exotic fruits. They are fruits some people haven't seen before, but that doesn't make them exotic. Mexico has some fruits that I haven't seen before in a mexican market, that doesn't mean those fruits are exotics.

ex·ot·ic iɡˈzädik/ adjective 1. originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country. I don't see any of those fruits in any of my local grocery stores and like she said those fruits are native to Thailand, let alone countries in Asia. I don't know where you live but if you don't live in Asia, that means those fruits are exotic to you.

Sean Gallon like i said, fruits you haven't seen don't consider exotics. Lots of americans haven't seen napa grapes that you make wines out of, that doesn't mean napa grapes is exotic. I haven't seen african cucumbers, that doesn't mean their cucumbers are exotic.

If you told me they are tropical fruits, then I agree wholeheartedly. But exotic, I disagree. It defends on how you define exotic. There are fruits that are native to America and why don't those fruits consider exotic? But fruits from asia are considered exotic? it's a weak argument if you told me because they're from asia.

•Ellie SunShower• Are you Vietnamese, i am too. But Xanat Mena is right. Some fruits can grown up in Mexico or Sout America. Its easy understand cause these fruits grown up in tropical place, where sunshining LOL :) Like Longan & Lychee is orginal from Vietnam, but in many year ago, tthey grown up in China, Thailand, Malaysia or even in Indonexia as well Now adays, alot bussines grown mango, longan, dragon fruit, jackfruit in USA (i search it grown at CA & Miami...) By the way, its just a fruit. Happy these fruits can grown up in oversea over there so people can eat them more & cheaper. Like, Vietnam dont have cherry & strawberry, berries... but now adays have bunch of strawberry tree, its not mean strawberry from Vietnam.

some fun facts about mangosteem that my parents told me! if you look at the bottom of the mangosteem, you will see petal like pieces at the bottom. They tell you how many pieces are inside and how large they are. I generally look for the ones with small petals because they dont have seeds and are way easier to eat. Oh and when they are hard, they are generally rotten as well which is why i never bother opening hard ones.

I've had a dragonfruit. It does look very pretty but it has the texture of a kiwi, but with almost no flavor, and if there is a little bit of flavor, it is very bland. But it has a lot of antioxidants, so it's really good for you. But you're better off eating other fruits.

Papaya is my favorite fruit! I can eat a whole papaya by myself in one sitting. I find that a good way to tell if it's ripe is by the smell. I also found that for some reason it is sweetest when you see white mold starting to grow (but no green mold!) On the outside. I have never gotten sick and don't know if the development of the mold can be an indication of the amount of sugars developed (if that means anything) but every time I let it ripen to that point the papaya tastes amazing. Fresh papaya is also delicious with homemade whipped cream, melted chocolate, or mascarpone cheese. Make a milk and papaya smoothie. You will thank me.

Mónica Ángel Sorry but the dragon fruit is NOT a common mexican fruit, plus dragon fruit does not have thorns on all its surface and is NOT pitaya, the pitaya is a fruit that grows on a big catus like looking plant surrouded by thorn and the pitaya itself has thorns on all is round surface, plus the interior of the pitaya fruit is a dark bright red plup with Little black eatable seeds the pitaya tastes very sweet, acidic, delicious and has like creamy consistancy, you must very careful when harvesting this fruit very dangerous, pitayas are round and normaly are the size of alittle larger than a tennis ball, the exterior skin of the fruit is from dark red to dark purple covered in small fine and thick thorns, do to the thorns on the cactus plant and the fruit itself. I have noticed that in some websites they put dragon fruit and pitaya as the same kind of fruit the similarities they have is that the interior of the fruit the pulp has Little black eatable seeds.

Can't be bothered to research any of this but going on my memory and experience..

The mango she showed was a Philippine mango, the sweetest in the world, especially those grown from the islands of Guimaras and Mindoro.

Dragon fruit is a super fruit! High in antioxidants, anticancer properties. How is that a boring fruit? Jackfruit tastes lime a mix of mango and pineapple. All these fruits are actually in the US international stores. It's not necessary to travel to Asia. Good video.
