Thanks! It's certainly on the list! I wanted to let Laminar fix a few bugs first before i put the cessna's through their paces. I was thinking of just making this a series sort of at this point and doing the XP12 stock, Stock with REP and Airfoil labs versions. I think it would really showcase the differences between all the aircraft.

@@av8rchris I agree. I am currently running B4 on my rig and a few bugs / optimization to be ironed out. Very interesting that my C172 G1000 settings in planemaker from XP11 didnt transfer across to XP12 and this all had to be redone. Intent on doing a video on that soon....

Chris, I take it this video was done before the WT GNS530 upgrade? I purchased this mod yesterday, and it comes with a mod to put it back to the PMS 530/430. Not sure if it's best to leave it as is with the WT upgrades, or to install the PMS mod. Would be interested if you would try this out with the WT changes and see how it differs from this video flight which is excellent by the way. This is from the manual. Effective v1.0.7, the GPS has been defaulted to the Working TItle implementation of the GNS 530/430. This means that some aspects of the AP will no longer work correctly, as well as some of the MD-41s functions. This is all unfortunately out of the devs control, as the WT code of the GPS is dictating how, when, and what the sims AP events do, as well as ignoring cfg file settings. - WPT and MSG lights on the MD-41 no longer work. - GPS/APR button will no longer activate a loaded GPS approach. - The KAP140s UP/DN buttons will no longer affect the APs reference altitude while in ALT mode, in either the 20 FT single press increments/decrements, nor allowing a 500 FPM climb/descent while holding down those buttons, and subsequent new reference altitude upon release of said buttons. - The APs independent BARO no longer has any effect, and will incorrectly react to the panels baro setting. However, an optional patch has been included to revert back to the PMS 530/430 for those that wish to. Just unzip (file located in the wbsim-aircraft-c172sp-classic\PMS530_Patch folder) and put it into your community folder. You will also need to have downloaded and installed the PMS 530 mod (v1.0.54 as of this writing) from github.com/pimarc/pms50-gns530/releases as this will no longer be included with the plane.

Yep - I filmed this maybe a few months after the WB released. I haven't been keeping up with it or flying it much as I've been splitting my time across other aircraft at the moment. I'm no coder but its interesting how much influence the WT 530/430 has over the AP functions. If this was the G1000 where AP functions were built in that would make more sense to me. The PMS530 was great for what it was but it was lacking alot of functions for me to use properly although I can't remember what exactly as it's been awhile. I do recall it was mostly instrument procedure stuff that it didn't do properly. Personally if you're trying to do instrument flying, the WT version is the way to go. Haha, thinking about it, this would mimic exactly the plane I started my PPL on, as it was a 6 pack with a 530 and no AP!

I appreciate the review, but I think your focus on the flight model behavior is misplaced with this add-on. As I read WB Sim's description of the modifications, they have not included any flight model modifications or any real change in inflight behavior. Instead, the changes are mostly systems based and/or wear and tear items.

I'm glad you mention that. On my original video where I compared the 172 G1000 to the real 172, someone had mentioned I should do the WB Sim 172. I read about it but dont recall it explicitly saying any FM changes were done. I figured I'd give it a go anyway since I believe the 6 pack 172 in MSFS didnt (and still doesnt?) have the CFD flight model enabled. I will say I think the 172 G1000 flies more accurately as best as I can tell to the real thing than the 6 pack.

Excellent review -- on the Flight Modeling, but that only about 5% of what the Ehansement mod is> Its a complete rework of the Electrical & the simulation of the Instruments that make this Enhancement what it is> Fully Operation KAP140. Custom updated PMS50 GPS systems Full integration of all the electrical instruments. All Breakers operate and control correct circuits and their attached loads. Realistic instrument movement, shake and performance with electrical & vacuum. Fully working CLOCK / up/down timers. Fully working up/down timers in the ADF. ADF and VOR needle accuracy and errors> AP uses GYRO as heading ref, not magically the Whisky Compass. You need to check drift.. it will catch you if you don't !! Correctly functioning annunciation Panels. Correct ELT operation and control> Additional cockpit views & outside views (For interactive walk around)> Correctly working GPS OBS. ADF can tune to all ADF frequencies correctly. Extensive damage, wear, and reduction in Engine Performance with Age, and with overheating. Optional complete State saving between flights. Exceed RPM, and you will overheat the engine.. to the extreme, high oil temp give oil pressure loss, eventually resulting in seized engine.!! Starter speed function of battery charge level (Voltage)> Fully simukate Battery, with dynamic internal resistance, function of charge & Temperature. Oil viscosity modeled with Temperature. Thick oil at cold temperatures make engine difficult to start on all but a fully charged battery Lights dim when other circuits take excess current (ie starter). Different electrical system drop out as battery goes flat at different times. Fully modeled Field Controller regulated Alternator .. Starter / starter solenoid correctly simulated... down to a barely moving prop, on start. with flat battery Ability to use an external Battery Charger (when on Ground)> Check and fill oil, (when on Ground)> Tie downs, wheel chocks, Pidot Tube cover, Cowl Plugs - all animated, and appropriate consequence for having them in incorrect configuration. ie Take off with Cowl Plugs in Place, and you will quickly overheat the engine, eventually causing it to seize. Cannot remove Cowl Plugs or Pidot Tube cover when in air. Leave the Pidot tube cover on, and no Airspeed Indicator. Etc Etc Etc .. FAR FAR more than just a few tweeks to the flight model. Over "ONE MAN YEAR" of work has already gone into this Enhancement Mod... 😀

Oh I agree 100%, this video was merely taking a look at the FM itself only scratching the surface of the systems showing elect system ect. There's no easy way to demonstrate all the behind the scenes work for systems depth/engine wear this mod has. One thing you mentioned is cowl plugs/pitot covers, where can you set and remove those? I must've missed that somehow! Thanks for watching!

Nice. Yea I tried practicing the Maneuvers for my PPL check ride last year on the stock MSFS Cessna 172.... that was a big nope. I guess with this version, much better?

Its not perfect but its usable. Adverse yaw is non existent and crosswinds still feel off, but its good enough for a home sim I think. Specifically the G1000 model as I think that one is the only one updated with the newer flight model.

I just found your channel while looking up reviews on the WB-Sim 172. I really like what you have to say. I agree with power requirements on landing, even though its been a long time since I flew the real thing. Excellent review! Please keep the good work up.

I wonder if they have fixed the take-off rudder issue, the power-on stall, & landing at full flaps power issue. Great presentation !! Subscribed! I'd buy this in a heartbeat if they have fixed the issues, continue to improve the product with periodic updates, and are a responsive organization when queried with support questions. If anyone knows about WB SIM, thanks in advance.

The WB SIM is nice but I was expecting a few flight model changes. If they are present I certainly couldnt tell between the stock 172 and the WB SIM. Im fairly certain it's on the roadmap however. Once the now stock WT GNS530/430 are available Ill certainly use it more.

What do you think of the braking after SU10? I got the feeling that planes stop much faster. I have tested it on C172, C208 and A320, and especially in the last two, the stopping power of reverse seems too much to me.

I haven’t flown the 208 and the 320 only minimally so I can’t speak to those. I actually fired up the fbw yesterday for the first time in months but didn’t notice too much of a difference. The 172 I think feels the same but I’ve been on su10 since the beta so I’m not really sure now lol. Wish I had more insight on that for you!

Realized I never replied to this! Real world I'm usually flaps 2 on normal landings, if its gusty possibly even flaps 1. In the sim I usually follow suit but for testing ran this with full flaps.

I have the side displays at +/-91 to account for the bezels. Works good for pretty much every aircraft i've used it with! Thanks for watching!

I think its worthwhile for sure. It def gives you more to think about vs just turn key, start full mixture full throttle and go. Oil temps have to come up, it can be flooded (i did it by accident lol) and you have to maintain your oil levels ect. Honestly the only thing that prevents me from flying it more is the GNS530/430. I want to do more instrument approaches with it but the current offerings of the 530/430 in the sim are a bit lackluster. However - WT is doing the full refresh on all the avionics so when they push the updated 530/430 - thats going to be a game changer!

@@av8rchris as a non IRL pilot I'm thinking the GNS530 would be a great starting point for me. Flightsimbuilder sell a great copy for just $300 so easy for to me add to my current setup and learn some basic avionics in older GA planes. I might then buy G1000 panels like you have in the future if I find I get more serious about aviation. I think Just Flight's Piper's come with the 530's too so buying one makes sense for me as an avionics starter.

@@kevinbrook7033 530 is a great starting point and it's common in alot of aircraft in sim and IRL. Infact the 172N that I initially started training on had the GNS530. Then the 2nd aircraft I started to use had the GNS430. They're great units, I just wish they worked a bit better in MSFS but again - thats coming soon. The Reality XP units for X-plane are fantastic also, not sure if theyre updated for XP12 yet though.

Its the recent SU10 multi display support direct from MSFS. I like it over the surround as you dont get the stretching and get a pretty believable viewpoint!

@@av8rchris did you use the same values that are floating over all forums? Use +90 -90 degress regardless of the angle of the monitors you have? Or did you actually do something else to make it look as good as I see on your video?

@@juanogcx I actually use +91 -91 to account for the bezels. I was actually impressed myself at how good it looks. It makes for a very convincing image!
